Thank you NetGalley for the Arc!
House of Glass is a fast paced, page turner. I really enjoy all of her books, but this one was great!!
Stella is asked to help on a case of a young girl from a rich family whose nanny tragically died at their home from falling through a window on the third story. The only problem is, the young girl does not speak and Stella needs to figure out what actually happened.
I liked all of the characters, Stella was great!! I definitely was second guessing who was good and who was bad at times. So fast paced, twisty and a fun read. One thing I liked most was that this book was realistic and nothing unbelievable happened. I enjoyed this book a lot and I am a glad that there was a happy ending.

I absolutely tore through this book, and I did not predict the ending at any point! That being said, I wasn't super impressed by the ending and didn't find it particularly believable. The subplots going on with the man character's love life and family story felt pretty disjointed and random. Also, the sheer level of coincidences and involvement from Charles felt very unrealistic. I think if the story had focused solely on the mystery it would have worked better for me. I really wished that the story went more in depth with each of the embers of the family and their motives and intentions. It did deliver in terms of suspense and surprise though! Admittedly, I am a bit picky when it comes to thrillers. I thought it was good but not great.

This book really reads like the beginning of a series or the script of a Netflix series. I liked the "in" of the main character being someone who worked with children during custody cases. I haven't seen that before and it is a great job to give an amateur sleuth entrance into people's messy lives.
I didn't like the storyline with her boss. I had started to suspect that what turned out to be their connection was but it did sort of require a massive suspension of belief which, when combined with the creepy kid/murder mystery that was the main plot was just too much we had to be willing to entertain.
I liked the character, she seemed pretty well rounded and the broken marriage and new potential relationship was handled well and didn't drag the book down.

This one gives Good Son in so many ways. The evil child trope is not always done well but she nails it here and I was guessing until the end!

House of Glass had a lot of elements that I really like in a thriller- a quick pace, short chapters, and a million suspects. The first 75% of this book really worked for me- I was very intrigued and had no idea where it was going. However, the end felt a little lackluster and the twist didn’t work for me. There was also a really random very last minute love interest that just struck me as a bit odd.
Overall, I would recommend it. It was a fun, quick thriller. It will definitely be one that sucks you in quickly! It’s not the best thriller I have ever read but it is enjoyable.

Took me a little while to get into the story. Once I did, I was hooked! I’ve really loved everything by Sarah!

This is the second book by this author that I’ve read and both have been fantastic. I often find myself being able to figure out the ending but this one got me. The entire book grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down.

4.5* for me!! I really enjoyed this one and REALLY loved the smart, strong FMC! I had a few theories develop throughout the journey but was satisfied with the ultimate reveal. It was a thorough journey but none of the characters were “overdone”. If I had any critique, I did feel the late-in-the-book romance was a little superfluous and random. But, it ultimately didn’t detract from the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to review an ARC.

Creepy child book plot - give me more! I wholly enjoyed House of Glass from Sarah Pekkanen. I have previously only read her books with Greer Hendricks, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Stella is a lawyer who counsels minors in custody cases. When a case of nine year old Rose Barclay, who has gone mute since the mysterious death of her nanny, appears, she is recommended to take the case due to similarities from her own traumatic childhood. We soon get to know Stella, her mentor lawyer Charlie, Rose's nanny, and her family of characters - mom Beth, father, Ian, and grandmother Harriet.
I was easily able to imagine the mansion that the Barclay's live in. Outside the suburbs of DC, a "plastic" house exists, created by Beth Barclay to keep her dangerous daughter safe from herself. All glass has been removed - windows, cups, mirrors. Rose is collecting sharp objects, reading ominous books, and not speaking to anyone.
I would recommend Pekkanen's new novel to anyone looking for a change of pace in their mystery and thriller collection!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC of this new thriller!

Thank you @goodreads for this giveaway win!
Sarah Pekkanen slays with her latest thriller involving a best interest attorney trying to advocate for her child client who may or may not be a cold-blooded killer.
Stella Hudson is no stranger to difficult cases and her own childhood trauma often gives her the empathy and the understanding essential for working with her young clients. When she reluctantly agrees to take on the Barclay divorce custody case at the urging of her father figure/mentor Charles, Stella is unnerved by the seemingly golden family, The Barclays. Their daughter, nine year old Rose, is afflicted with traumatic mutism, unable to speak after the death of her nanny, Tina who fell from an upper level window.
Did Tina fall or was she pushed? Did Rose have anything to do with her murder?
As Stella begins to spend time with the Barclays, she delves deeper and deeper into the mystery swirling around the dark and brooding household and the inhabitants: Beth, Rose's mother who seems easily agitated and is enraged by Ian's affair with Tina, Ian who seems happy-go-lucky until his anger flares under duress and may just buckle under the weight of his infidelities, and Harriet, Rose's grandmother, who has limited mobility and onlywants what's best for Rose.
And then there's Rose. As Stella tries to penetrate Rose's silence and try to assess Rose's feelings about her parents, disturbing facts come to light. Why does Rose collect knives and sharp objects? Why does her anger seem to be simmering under the surface? Is Rose really unable to speak or is it all an elaborate ruse?
Everyone has a motive.
Stella is racing against time to find the best placement for Rose, to figure out what truly happened to Tina, and stop herself from being the new target of a killer who is still on the loose...
Pekkannen delivers a tour de force thriller with twists and turns that thoroughly engage the reader. Stella 's journey and the author's exploration of Stella's own tragic background provide another interesting plot point to add texture and depth to this insightful thriller. The quick pacing and the truly gasp worthy twists thoroughly entertain and satisfy.
Pekkanen has written her best thriller yet.

House of Glass was such a fun read. The entire book had me flip-flopping on who was guilty and who I could trust. I have enjoyed previous works by Sarah Pekkanen and House of Glass did not disappoint. The end was satisfying in every way I love my thrillers to wrap up. I recommend this book to any triller enthusiast!

I enjoyed this book. The first half flew by and it was a true whodunnit plot. I was able to figure it out pretty quickly but really enjoyed the relationship between Stella and Rose and how Stella was there for her. Would recommend

4. stars.*
This is the first book by Sarah Pekkanen (solo) that I have read. But I have read all of her joint works with Greer Hendricks and really liked them.
House of Glass is an intriguing domestic thriller. One of it's strongest plot points is that Best Interest Attorney Stella Hudson is a child who suffered similar trauma to her client Rose Barclay. When the Barclay's nanny falls to her death revealing her affair with the husband, everyone in the house is a suspect: mom, dad, grandma, AND Rose. But Rose's trauma is so intense that she has been left mute. Stella is uniquely able to understand, having suffered muteness when she was left alone with her mother's dead body when she was a child.
The twists in this story are well conceived. Highly recommended.
Release Date August 6, 2024.

Wow! This was a such a great read! One of my favourite thriller of the year. The story was complex, well- written, and full of surprises, twists and secrets. I loved the story.

The nanny died, and no one knows exactly what happened to her: was it an accident? Was it murder?
She "fell" through the attic window to her death on the concrete below, the police don't have enough information or evidence to decide if someone was responsible, or if it was a terrible accident and she jus tripped and fell.
Now the parents are divorcing and both are seeking sole custody of their only child, Rose. So along comes Best Interest Attorney Stella Hudson, to interview the family and the child, to report to the court who she feels should get custody of the child. There is Rose, the father Ian, the mother Beth, and the live in Grandmother, Harriet. Given the fact that Ian (the father) had been having an affair with Tina (the nanny), it seems that any one of them could have pushed her out that window to get rid of her - especially since she was pregnant!
As Stella spends time with the whole family, she learns more about their lives and the dynamics in the household, and she inches closer and closer to the truth, until it all comes out in a dramatic showdown at the end.
Quite a riveting story, it kept me on my toes and kept me guessing. A well crafted psychological thriller!

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the eARC.
Excellent book, full of twists and turns as well as a claustrophobic sense of evil.
Rose, a little traumatized girl struck mute, might have killed her nanny - but it also could have been her mother, father or grandmother. Stella Hudson, the welfare attorney for Rose, is supposed to spend time with the family, especially Rose, to determine whether Rose should live with her mother or father, as the couple is in the midst of a divorce. The family is difficult to work with, but Stella, who had a disastrous childhood and was mute for a while as well, is determined to do her best for Rose.
The ending was unexpected and very satisfying.

I stayed up til 2am reading this because I just HAD to know who was responsible for Tina's murder. Sarah Pekkanen spins the most intricate and twisted story around the Barclay family that you have no idea who or what or how it all happened. Coupled with Stella's own childhood history and you become so incredibly wrapped up that you can't make heads nor tails of what is real or not. An amazing novel through and through, one hundred out of ten stars!!

4,5⭐ rounded down
This is the first book I have read by Sarah Pekkanen, but I can assure you this won't be my last. I loved this book. The story gripped me right from the start, who can resist a twisty thriller where everyone is a suspect even a nine year old girl!
Stella Hudson is an appointed counsel for nine year old Rose Barclay. The Barclay's are going through a bitter divorce, and Rose is suffering from traumatic mutism after witnessing her nanny plunge to her death from an upstairs window. As Stella spends time with the family to determine what will be best for Rose, she notices there is no glass in the whole house, all replaced, even the mirrors. There is more going on to this family than what anyone is sharing. Did the nanny commit suicide? Was she pushed? As Stella will seemingly stop at nothing to get to the bottom of it.
. This shocking thriller will give you the ride of your life as you try to put the pieces of this story together. I loved her writing, it was creepy and engrossing, I couldn't put it down
