WOWZER!!!!!!!!!!!! This novel had me captivated from the very beginning. A special thank you nod to NetGalley for the advance copy of House of Glass.
This is a true chilling, captivating, quick read that leads the reader to many speculations as the plot both enfolds and thickens. All I want to say is Charles!!!!
This would be a great read for bookclub - which I will highly recommend to mine.
4.5 stars rounded up! Stella is a best interest attorney who helps determine what is best for kids in custody disputes. She is currently working with a little girl who doesn’t speak due to the trauma of watching her nanny fall to her death. But not everything in this household is what it seems…
This thriller was so fun! It has a mysterious death, mysterious pasts, a creepy house, a creepy child, and a huge twist I absolutely did not see coming! I was completely confident I knew what was going on, but boy was I wrong 😅 I had one small issue with the timing near the end, but nothing that took away from the story. I definitely recommend this one, especially for spooky season coming up!
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read before pub day! ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. HOUSE OF GLASS is out now!
This book was told in 1st person from the POV of Stella. Pekkanen did it again with another excellent read I couldn’t put down. I absolutely loved Rose’s character. This book kept me guessing the whole time and I didn’t see the ending coming.
I will be honest; it’s been a few months since I finished the House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen. However, I still remember the ending as if I read the book yesterday. The book takes place right after the murder of a family’s nanny . . . possibly witnessed by nine-year-old Rose. Stella Hudson, a best interest attorney, is trying to get to the bottom of what happened.
House of Glass is everything that you want a thriller to be. The book is fast paced with lots of twists and turns. It was hard to know who to trust and the ending was very satisfying. I particularly like the backstory of the lawyer and her motivations in her role as a child advocate.
Ooohhhh such good psychological vibes!!! I'm getting tingly goosebumps just writing this.
Getting Gillian Flynn vibes, and I loved her books. The storyline took some time to get hooked into, but once you do, it's twists and turns and you cannot put it down!
Definitely thought it was everyone as a suspect.
This one was a good, quick read. It had the perfect amount of the creepy child/family vibe that you would expect from this type of thriller. It truly grabs you from the start and stays steady throughout. The whodunit wasn't such a shock to me. It was more so in the details that *wowed* me.
If you need a good thriller so close to spooky season, don't sleep on this one.
A great mystery of a young attorney is working a case trying to figure out who murdered a nanny. An eye witness is a young child who refuses to speak. Can the attorney figure out actually what happened that night before her own life becomes endangered?
Thank you, NetGalley, for an advanced copy of this book.
This started out fast paced for me but ended up slowing down in the middle and then ramping upwards at the end. If the inside flap clues me into a possible evil child I’m in. The characters were dark and messed up doing awful things.
The writing was good but I felt kind of bored in the middle and it took me way too long to finish. It might just have been me. Sarah Pekannen is a solid writer and this will be enjoyed by her fans.
Stella is an attorney representing children in cases of divorce. Rose becomes her client after her parents decide to divorce after Rose witnesses her own nanny’s death. Rose has selective mutism, something Stella is very familiar with it as she had it herself as a child. This case turns out to be a very difficult one for Stella and she begins to suspect the nanny’s death was not an accident.
This book is definitely a slow burn psychological thriller. I love books with creepy kids and was not disappointed with Rose’s character! The only issue I had was with Stella and how she frequently crossed boundaries with her client and her family. It was not at all professional or believable. I still enjoyed the ride and was entertained!
Edge of your seat thrill ride! So many twists and turns and suspicious characters! Highly recommend!
Sarah Pekkanen has quickly become an auto read author me. I love her work and House of Glass was no exception. Absolutely hooked from page one and had to keep going to get to the end.
House of Glass painted just about everyone as a suspect, and I was pleased with the ending wrap up. A quick and enjoyable read for me.
I loved this story and right up to the end I was on the edge of my seat! This was my kind of book with characters that you love to hate and none stop action. There was so much going on and I loved every second of it. If you like a twisty thriller, this one is for you.
Many thanks to the author, St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Being a nanny, I always love reading about nannies and creepy kids! House of Glass was a 3.25/5 ⭐️ for me!! I really wanted to like this one and I did like some parts. This one was just pretty slow and I was able to get the twist about half way through. I don’t care for reading about infidelity and that was a big part of this one! I did love the little girl and how creepy she was at times!
House of Glass is an incredible thriller that will leave you wondering who is truthful, who is lying, and who is the murderer.
This story unfolds at a slower pace, which lets the reader be as observant as Stella is when it comes to the Barclay family. After Rose Barclay’s nanny falls to her death and her parents announce a divorce, Stella is hired to determine which parent is the correct parent to have primary custody of Rose. Stella has to make this decision because Rose can’t speak - a case of traumatic mutism after the death of her nanny.
The more time Stella spends with the Barclay’s, the more secrets she uncovers. And the pace of the story allows the reader to soak in the details and come up with their own theories and suspect list, just to have to throw it out after the next chapter.
I had such a blast reading and listening to House of Glass. I did not correctly figure out who the murderer is, or see any of the twists that unfold. While I normally love a fast paced thriller, House of Glass has taught me to appreciate a slow unraveling before my eyes. I was so impressed with the layers each character has, even down to a seemingly minor side character there is a depth to their story that brings a new perspective or clue to the main plot. This is such a riveting tale and if you love having to solve the puzzle, this one is for you. The audio book was clear to understand and easy to listen to - and I could listen at a faster pace and still maintain the story. I would listen to something by that narrator again.
This book was the perfect combination of mystery and relationships. The character development was gripping and I couldn't wait to find out the ending! Loved this book and recommend.
Thank you to Netgalley!
This one definitely ended differently than I was expecting. Although I had a slight hint of who it was but some of the other things that happened I wasn't expecting at all!
I always enjoy a good thriller that makes me want to continue listening or reading! highly recommend it if you like a good "who did" it book.
Really great. I love the writing style and the cover. Such a great book. Thank you for letting me read in advance.
This book was the perfect co.bination of mystery, relationships, and plot. Stella is relatable and a heroine and victim at the same time. The character development was gripping and I couldn't wait to find out the ending! Loved this book and recommend.
I really enjoyed most of what I was able to read about this book. While I would have preferred a little bit more character development the pacing and the actual story drew me in. Unfortunately I was unaware of the archive date and did not get to finish the very end.
in this story, we follow stella, a successful lawyer who just took on the case of rose barclay. she is her best interest attorney, deciding if either beth, her mom, or ian, gain full custody of her after the divorce is final. however, this is not the average case. scandal surrounds the family after tina, the nanny, was found dead having fallen from the window in her room. ian, suspiciously, also was having an affair with her. stella realizes that knowing what happened to tina is vital to deciding who gets custody of rose, who is now mute due to trauma.
there is a lot going on in this story at all times. you have stella’s past that she’s confronting throughout, along with tina’s death and deciding who gets custody of rose. it wasn’t hard for me to keep up though. no one is safe from suspicion, which i loved as it kept me guessing the whole time.
this was a really fast and engaging read. there were a few parts that may have dragged a little but not anything too serious. the multiple plot twists all got me at the end!! i would def recommend this book to others
