I have honestly never met a Sarah Pekkanen book that I didn't like, and just like the countless others before, "House of Glass" was another perfect book to me. The twists and turns of this book reminds me why I love thrillers. As a reader I love not being able to trust my own intuitions. You might think you know what happened the night of the accident but through digging done by our main character Stella we learn that everything is not what it might seem. The golden couple are not so golden, the elderly disabled grandma couldn't see from her garden, and the one person who might have witnessed it was a 9 year old who is silent. Stella is the only one who could help but will her own trauma keep her from seeing the bigger picture and is a 9 year old really capable of all that she seems to be? If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would.

Wow! I have read all of Sarah Pekkanen’s novels, and this one might be my new favorite. Rose Barclay is a 9 year old girl suffering from traumatic mutism whose parents are in the midst of a divorce. Stella is the lawyer assigned to integrate herself into the Barclay family’s lives to determine the best custody arrangement for Rose. But Stella begins to have odd experiences similar to the family’s nanny who recently died, and it has her questioning everything - including her own past and Rose. Pekkanen weaves so many threads in both Stella’s and the Barclay’s lives that really keep the reader guessing until the end. This is going to be one of the MUST-READ psychological thrillers of 2024.

Another amazingly epic book that’s frought with awesomeness. Can’t wait if there’s a continuation of the story but it was also a good ending.

The first Sarah Pekkanen novel I read was in 2017 The Wife Between Us. Since then, she is auto- buy, must read author for me. EVERY SINGLE TIME. So, when this came up on @NetGalley of course I was requesting as fast as I possibly could.
Stella is an attorney who has been appointed to represent Rose, the daughter of Ian and Beth during their divorce proceedings. The tricky part is that their divorce was caused by the death of their pregnant, live-in nanny who ‘fell’ out of the third floor window of their home. The police ruled it an accident. Rose and Stella have a common bond – traumatic mutism. Stella eventually got past it, and she understands what Rose is going through. Stella knows that something is off in the home, and she is determined represent Rose as best as she can.
There is a second story line – Stella and Charles and their connection. It’s so interesting… I tell my kids – pay attention to who you are around, you may not see them for 5 years or longer, but life is like a chess game, your move effects their move etc etc. This is a page turning, breath taking thriller that will give you all the emotions. Don’t pick sides too early, you may be surprised. I was.
Thank you to Sarah Pekkanen, St. Martins Press and NetGalley for an advanced digital copy of House of Glass.

House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen is a thrilling story about a child, Rose who developed traumatic mutism after the mysterious death of her nanny. It’s unknown how Rose is involved with this death and she’s not able to communicate. Stella Hudson who's job is to decide living arrangements during custody disputes gets wrapped up in this mystery while trying to help find what’s best for Rose.

This is the first book I’ve read by Sarah Pekkanen that she has written alone and I was impressed. I’ve read one that she coauthored with Greer Hendricks that I also enjoyed. The plot was well-paced and exciting, which compelled me to keep reading. The short chapters kept me tempted to read “just one more chapter” and before I knew it I was halfway through the book.

The characters were complex and I thought everyone was guilty at one point or another. I usually guess the twists in books or at least have it down to one or two theories but the doubt was so evenly spread I couldn’t narrow it down. She got me in this book! The ending could have been shortened because it felt like there were four epilogues. I do understand that closure was needed to clean up all the loose ends but some of the ending chapters could’ve been a paragraph or two somewhere else. But that’s me just being nitpicky. Overall, this was an excellent book and I very highly recommend it.

House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen

This story rotates around a constant whiplash of family lies, creepy actions from a young child and crazy enough the whole family is prime suspect when their young nanny has fallen to her death from their home while on the job.

Rose Barclay is a nine year old child who has stopped speaking after witnessing the fatal accident. She is a troubled young girl who Stella is trying to analyze and assist with her job assignment.

Stella who is a special interest attorney has been assigned to this case to determine who the Rose should live with after the courts appointed her to evaluate the situation and the child’s relationships inside the home. Her parents are involved in a divorce and Stella is to visit and get to the nitty gritty of the family dynamic, when red flags start to arise!

The story takes an insane twist as her history from being involved in her own trauma catapults her into a scenario of bigger magnification when she is seeing some shocking revelations from her own history and confusing misdirection with the actual case!

What an epic read!

Oh my goodness, this was SO good. The best mystery/thriller I’ve read in a while!

We have the Barclays- Ian, Beth, Rose and Ian’s mother, Harriet who lives with them post knee injury/surgery. The seemingly perfect family until their nanny, Tina, is killed at their home when she falls through a window.

Rose is 9 years old and witnessed the death of her nanny. She is now suffering from trauma mutism and collecting glass and sharp objects while watching her parents go through an ugly divorce.

Stella Hudson, a best interest attorney, is sent in to get to know the family and decide what is best for Rose since both parents are requesting full custody.

This is extremely difficult to do when you have no idea who is telling the truth and when Stella is also dealing with the trauma of her childhood that is in some ways, similar to what Rose is going through.

Stella is determined to help Rose, no matter what it is she needs.

I LOVED it and highly recommend!

Thank you NetGalley for this opportunity. This is the second book I have read by this author and it did not disappoint. I was hooked right from the beginning. The chapters were short and ended with mini cliff hangers that had me scrambling to turn the page to find out what came next. I highly recommend you read this book!

Great story with amazing twists that just keep coming.
Stella is a "best interest" attorney; she is appointed to work cases where children are being
fought over in divorces and to decide what is in the best interest of the child.
When she is assigned to work with Rose, whose beloved nanny plunged to her death from an upstairs window in their home, and whose parents are in the middle of a custody fights, she finds a seemingly traumatized young girl who does not speak. Having been asked to take the case by the judge who also happens to be one of Stella's oldest and dearest friends, she cannot refuse. She is immediately plunged in to a case with more intrigue and mystery than she could ever have anticipated.
Did the nanny really fall or was she pushed? Is Rose as innocent and traumatized as she appears or is it all a pretext?
As Stella tries to figure out what she got herself into, the mysteries deepen around her and the people she is surrounded by become more and more surreal and intimidating.
Characters are greatly defined, and story locales are so fittingly real that you can see yourself right there/.
Great mystery with twists that you do not even see ahead.
Or do you?

This was a fun book to read. I was hooked from a few pages in and stayed up way too late to read this. A murder, a mother, father and child.. but who did it? Was it one of them?! Wow loved this book!

Thanks to NetGalley for the arc!
I was surprised to see so many high reviews… this fell short for me, unfortunately. I had high hopes as I had loved ‘Gone Tonight’ (only other book from this author I’ve read), but this did not catch my attention and did not keep my attention… I kept powering through hoping it would change for me, but it didn’t. I’m very glad so many others loved it!

Sarah Pekkanen's newest thriller, House of Glass, is one you don't want to miss! I was entangled in the story very quickly and had very strong feelings for all of the characters, both good and bad. I thought I had the twist figured out but I was wrong again and again!
There were times while reading when I was extremely anxious for the main character, Stella Hudson, while she is performing her duties as a Best Interest Attorney for a little girl named Rose. Who is safe? Who can she trust? You don't want to miss this one!
Thank you so much to St. Martin's press, Netgalley, and Sarah Pekkanen for allowing me access to this ARC! Make sure you check it out when it is published on August 6, 2024!

This is the first book in the thriller genre that I wasn't even thinking about the actual murder because the story line by itself is so freaking good! I loved it and flew through it in a day. Just when I thought I was at a place I could pause at, I took a peek ahead to the next sentence and kept right on going. This will be the best book of 2024!
The basis of the story is about a couple who are divorcing, and an attorney is appointed to decide custody arrangements for their little girl, Rose. Then add to that all these crazy extending circumstances like the death of the nanny, the affair the husband had, the weird vibes from the house, and the list goes on. Plus, everyone in the whole story is lying!

This book was a great read, with twists and turns throughout. Told across several time frames and from several points of view, the story is about a 30-something best-interest attorney or BIA named Stella who represents a 9-year-old girl named Rose. Rose’s parents, Beth and Ian Barclay, are involved in a custody battle due to an impending divorce. The family lives in a lavish old-fashioned mansion with Ian’s mom Harriet.
Appointed by the court, in particular Judge Charles Huxley, Stella’s job is to research the family so she can submit a report making recommendations as to Rose’s future care. Sounds straightforward, doesn’t it? There are complications, however. The death of the nanny Tina, and Rose’s traumatic mutism add flavor and danger to the narrative.
Several questions come to mind.
• Why does Rose not speak?
• Was Tina’s death accidental or deliberate?
• If Tina was murdered, who was the culprit?
• What is Charles’s role in the book?
• Why was Stella assigned to the case?
There are several items to note about this book.
• First, the descriptions of the old-fashioned house depicted a cold, eerie, and creepy home, adding to the intrigue. “I shift my gaze to the house. It’s like something from a place time forgot, with its gray-green serpentine-stone construction and wide front porch.” Sarah Pekkanen. House of Glass (Kindle Locations 160-161). Kindle Edition.
• Second, the pacing of the writing was a whirlwind, making it an unputdownable book. The reader is always looking to find the next clue in terms of Tina’s death and Rose’s traumatic mutism.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers and mysteries. A good ride, for sure.

I was SO excited when I got the chance to read House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen. I am such a fan of her books so I knew this one would be great. Wow, was I right! I had such an eerie feeling while reading this book, found myself holding my breath a lot and REALLY couldn’t have guessed that ending! I really enjoyed the parallel of Stella’s past and Rose’s present. I loved how Sarah guided you into feeling one character was guilty and the ending was SO GOOD. I don’t usually like thrillers that involve children but this one was GREAT. Definitely add it to your TBR this summer.

This is a story that pulls one in from multiple levels. There's the story of Stella, who has had a traumatic upbringing and is now a legal professional involved in assisting with custody-related matters. She also has a non-romantic relationship with Charles, who has served as a mentor and guardian angel in many ways throughout her life. Her current case is with a young girl named Rose Barclay who is mute, presumably from a traumatic event, Stella's involvement, acting as Rose's best interest advocate in the face of Rose's parents' contentious divorce, becomes more convoluted as she discovers that Rose's nanny has died and was possibly murdered. All of these story lines come together quite deftly, with Stella always putting her client Rose as the main concern. And it all works so well together, creating situations that are chilling, with just a hint of things being 'off'. The characters are believable and the book is difficult to put down. The writing is superb with no clumsy dialogue or scenes. I would highly recommend this novel.
