Stella Hudson is an attorney that’s assigned nine year old Roses Barclay case. Rose's parents are going through an extremely bitter divorce, both are requesting sole custody of their daughter. Stella has the task of determining what’s in Rose’s best interest and who she should live with. Before being assigned their case, the family’s nanny fell out of a second-floor window with Rose witnessing it all, since that fateful day Rose hasn’t spoken a word.
As Stella digs into Rose’s life and spending personal one on one time with her she begins to feel something sinister. From the moment of Stella’s arrival at the Barclay's large, sterile, historic home, warning bells sound in Stella's head. Especially with Rose with the dark, haunting eyes who's been hiding sharp objects in her room. Why? Is she afraid of someone? Or is she planning on harming someone? No glass is allowed from the windows to the glasses they drink from. She begins to realize this is a family harboring a host of secrets and she needs to tread carefully as she continues uncovering more lies!
Such a thrill ride that I could not put down. It was such a fast read that left me on the edge of my seat!
Love books like this where everyone is a suspect. This book was definitely a page turner. So many secrets. So many twist and turns. This book will take you on a wild ride. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC of the book.

"House of Glass" by Sarah Pekkanen
was a well written & addictive mystery/thriller that had me guessing until the very end.
This is the 2nd book that I've read by Ms. Pekkanen & I have also read 3 books with her collaborator Greer Hendricks.
I'm excited to see what she decides to write next.
3.5 stars even though this was not my favorite psychological thriller, it did keep me guessing and I did not see that ending coming. I would describe this more as a murder mystery. It was a slow burn with a ton of thought put into the details and how each character had a woven part in the whole mystery.
Nine year old, Rose Barclay is currently suffering from traumatic mutism, following the sudden and tragic death of her nanny, Tina. Tina tragically fell from a window at the Barclay’s residence leaving her death ruled as an accident, but everyone is a suspect.
Rose’s parents are now going through a divorce following this trauma. In order to determine what is best for Rose, Stella Hudson is cautiously appointed to serve as the families best interest attorney in order to determine what would be best for Rose. Stella understands traumatic mutism more than most, as she suffered with it herself as a young girl. However, things are not as they seem. Why is Rose mute? Who murdered Tina? And will Rose end up being placed with a killer?
My least favorite was the ending with Charles story line I found it so odd that she would not have been upset at all because it completely sent her family’s course in a dark direction.
Thank you NetGalley, the author and the publisher for this arc!
This was my first book by Sarah Pekkanen. I really enjoyed this twisty thriller. Everyone is a suspect in the nanny's murder. This book will have you wanting to turn the pages quickly to see what is happening next. Thanks NetGalley for the eArc.
Twisty, dark, they are all suspects, they are all damaged, they are all covering and protecting each other. This was an extremely well crafted thriller which kept me guessing and thinking, she did it, no he is the guilty one, or maybe it isn’t either one or maybe both or all three or could it possibly be the child?! The problem is that everyone is damaged, the wife by her husband, the son by his mother, the mother by her life, the child by everyone and the “best interest attorney” could be the most damaged of all. There is an interesting back story that stays hidden for most of the book but when it is revealed it is another amazing twist in the story.
I could not put this book down. I admit to almost hyperventilating along with Stella at certain points in the story. It is one of the best of this genre and I look forward to what Sarah Pekkanen produces next. Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for a copy.
Creepy, atmospheric and intense, House of Glass is one thriller that caused me to lose sleep at night. It was excellent in the way the storyline and the details emerged perfectly throughout. I wasn’t able to figure who done it easily, at least until the last quarter of the book, which is unusual for me. All the characters were well written and developed. Highly recommend!

Thank you to St Martin's Press for the digital copy!
Stella is a best-interest attorney, and is paired with nine year old Rose- whose parents are in the middle of a divorce and therefore a heated custody battle. Mom, Dad, and Grandma all seem to want what is best for the child, but Stella can't ask Rose- because she is mute. She led a seemingly normal life, until her nanny fell from a third story window and died. Now Rose silently collects sharp objects anytime she can. Her parents have removed all sharp things from the house- plastic cups, plexiglass windows, not even glass in their picture frames.
I enjoyed the tangled web that was this book. It was a "whodunit" mystery where everyone was a suspect at some point- my guesses changed with each chapter. The amount that a family will go through to protect their children is always believable- even when it's unbelievable. I did feel that the coincidences didn't feel strong enough to make a good shock factor, and I didn't really feel the tension I should have. I think it was a little long for my liking and and could have shortened it a little bit more, with less focus on Stella's childhood, since it was not overall important to the plot line. Overall I liked the ever-changing suspicion of the characters and how they were all realistically flawed, which made the story plausible.
This book had me at the edge of my seat! Just when I thought I had it figured it out...BAM! I didn't! There was just enough domestic drama to keep you intrigued while keeping the thriller and mystery element alive as well! Anything with a creepy little kid involved is sure to be a good thriller! I would highly recommend this book!

House of Glass is a thriller from Sarah Pekkanen in which a child psychologist/best interest lawyer tries to understand the intense family drama during a divorce. There are no reliable narrators, which adds to the thrill of the book. She must try to determine what is in the best interest of the child, who may have caused the death of her previous caretaker. This was a fun and fast read. It was predictable at times, but overall I enjoyed the book.
This book hooked me from the first chapter! Stella is an attorney who specializes in helping children advocate for themselves. Her mentor asks her to take a special case - a young 9 year old who has gone mute after the death of her nanny. Her parents are divorcing and it is Stella's job to determine how custody and visitation should be arranged. Seems fairly straightforward....but it's not!
Beth and Ian (Rose's parents) present an unlikely pair and they are hostile towards each other. No big surprise as Ian had an affair with the nanny and it was discovered that the nanny was pregnant at her time of death. Stella is trying to piece things together all the while becoming more convinced that Rose might be the killer. There are several twists and turns and connections are made between Rose and Stella's own troubled childhood. There is a brief romance encounter for Stella but I felt that could have been either left out or better fleshed out. It felt out of place (to me).
A solid thriller though and a race to the end kind of read!
I've always found Pekkanen's writing to be super engaging and her novels difficult to put down, and House of Glass was no different. As soon as I started reading, I was hooked, and the plot really kept me guessing. I have to admit that the "twist" was not that twisty and I kind of saw it coming, BUT that being said, it was a great ending to what was overall a really fun thriller to read. I also enjoyed getting to know Stella, and I thought that Pekkanen's choice to bring Stella's childhood and background into the story made her more interesting as a character to root for. I enjoy a character-focused thriller and this was definitely that kind of novel.
Just another masterpiece by super-talented Sarah! Loved the twists and turns in this one, and the way it was written and told was really engaging.
Creepy, filled to the brim with tension.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.
Lawyer, Stella Hudson, has been assigned a case to determine custody of 9 year old Rose Barclay. Her parents are involved in a divorce and both want full custody of the child. Rose cannot say who she would want to live with because she is mute following the death of her nannie in a fall from the third floor window of their home. The death is suspicious. Who pushed the nannie?
Rose, one of her parents, or her live-in grandmother?
Stella is determined to see that she does right by Rose and gets her placed in the best living situation possible. The more involved Stella becomes in the case, the more she recognizes parallels to her own childhood.
Stella begins to realize that things are not always as they seem. She does some investigating into the death of her own mother, from when she was a young child. Stella also was mute for a time after her mother died.
This twisty story will keep you reading until the conclusion. It is a fun read and if you think you have the mystery solved, think again.
This story was so entertaining, I honestly hope it becomes part of a series. Stella was a fantastic character. I couldn’t help but root for her from the get go. In fact, all of the characters were well-written, but Rose was also fantastic. I knew what was going on right away, but I think that may be the cynic in me. Even still, this book was a study in foreshadowing. I actually found myself taking notes throughout it because the elements of foreshadowing were done so well. Also of note was the interesting relationship between Stella and Charles. I knew it was important, but I had no idea on that until I was smacked in the face with it. Great job! I’ll be telling everyone about this one!
Huge thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!
Pekkanen writes great fast paced, read in one sitting thrillers. House of Glass keeps you guessing at who the bad guy is because this entire family is SUS!
I was afraid that there was going to be a lot of loose ends at the end of the book, but no fear, everything was nicely rounded out without any plot holes. Pekkanen is quickly becoming an auto-buy author and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!
A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of this book!
This was a dark and twisty psychological thriller that kept me intrigued and guessing until the end.
The Barclay's are going through a divorce and Stella has been appointed as a counsel for their nine year old daughter, Rose. Stella has been assigned to determine the best custody arrangement for Rose by spending one on one time with her and time at her home with her parents and grandmother, Harriet. The only problem is Rose is suffering from traumatic mutism after witnessing her nanny, Tina, fall to her death out the Barclay's upper window. Stella is determined to uncover the family's secrets and find out if what happened to their nanny was really an accident.
I really enjoy books featuring potential troubled children. The book follows Stella, a lawyer, who is assigned a case were a nanny had fallen to her death & the only possible witness is a 9 year old girl. The book had a lot of drama and was full of twists. I highly recommend to thriller lovers.
In a surprise to absolutely no one, I loved House of Glass by @sarahpekkanen . I loved it so much that, even though I had an advanced copy, I bought the audiobook so I didn’t have to stop reading when I had to run errands. (Thank you, @stmartinspress !)
This book was so creepy and atmospheric. There were many times that I felt the anxiety of the main character. I also loved her storylines outside of the main mystery.
A must read!!
