I like this author, so I was immediately drawn to this book. The problem for me was the pace. It was very slow paced and I really had to force myself to stay committed to finishing the book. In the last 25% things started picking up and I enjoyed the end quarter of the novel. Roger is suffering from traumatic mutism, something that Stella, her BIA, knows all too much about. But does Rose's mutism aim to cover up the details behind the death of her nanny? These questions and more will be answered in the end 🌟🌟🌟
Thank you #NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Solid thriller that will grip you!
If you enjoy stories with creepy kids, then this is a must read. About halfway through I did guess the plot twist correct, but loved how it was executed. I didn't guess another plot twist that was thrown our way though and I enjoyed seeing that play out.
Pekkanen does not disappoint!
Wow!!!!! I LOVED this! A twisty thriller that really keeps you guessing. This book draws you in from the first chapter. Its fast paced, tense, and unpredictable. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley, the Publishers, and Sarah Pekkanen for an ARC of House of Glass. I am so thankful for the holiday week to devour this book. This, as always by Sarah, was phenomenal! I had my suspicions, but this one threw me for a loop. One of the twists I had to put my kindle down to pick up my jaw from the floor. Sarah’s writing is stellar and I have yet to find an issue in any of her books. The ending was 100/10 and one of those books I don’t want to lose the characters and I want the story to keep going.
A young nanny was found dead - the police are unsure if it was an accident or intentional at the Barclay estate. The house is extraordinarily beautiful, but there is a dark presence that resides in the house. The 9 year old daughter, Rose, has become mute after the terrible tragedy. She’s been seen secretly collecting sharp objects. Stella is faced with figuring out the best course of action for Rose to see who she should live with following her parent’s divorce and this tragedy. Stella has a difficult job due to Rose not being able to speak and not knowing what really happened to Tina, the nanny. Is there a murderer in the house? Where would Rose be the safest? Stella remembers why she never takes clients under 13, but this case holds something dear to her heart. Stella starts finding that this case is even more twisted than she had imagined. During her first visit to the Barclay’s home she realizes all the glass has been removed and replaced with plastic. After a few visits, Stella sees how far this family will go to protect themselves. Stella is having a hard time unwrapping her old childhood past and Rose’s - she will help Rose no matter what it comes to. Even if that means Stella needing protection from her client.
Okay, after taking a couple years off reading thrillers, I have come out of semi-retirement as of late. This one is quite good! I loved watching the story unfold and definitely liked the ending. As a newer resident to DC, I liked imagining this happening in my neighborhood, recognizing city streets etc etc.
House of Glass will intrigue you, but the last 80 pages will have you hooked! If you’re a fan of the book Baby Teeth, you’ll DEVOUR this one. Pick it up on pub day!
This was a very good psychological thriller. It definitely kept me guessing the whole time. I really liked the character of Stella - I would love to see a series about her work with her young clients as well as her relationships outside of work. Thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC.

Summary- On the outside they were the golden family with the perfect life. On the inside they built the perfect lie.
A young nanny who plunged to her death, or was she pushed? A nine-year-old girl who collects sharp objects and refuses to speak. A lawyer whose job it is to uncover who in the family is a victim and who is a murderer. But how can you find out the truth when everyone here is lying?
Rose Barclay is a nine-year-old girl who witnessed the possible murder of her nanny - in the midst of her parent’s bitter divorce - and immediately stopped speaking. Stella Hudson is a best interest attorney, appointed to serve as counsel for children in custody cases. She never accepts clients under thirteen due to her own traumatic childhood, but Stella’s mentor, a revered judge, believes Stella is the only one who can help.
As Stella comes closer to uncovering the secrets the Barclays are desperate to hide, danger wraps around her like a shroud, and her past and present are set on a collision course in ways she never expected. Everyone is a suspect in the nanny’s murder. The mother, the father, the grandmother, the nanny’s boyfriend. Even Rose. Is the person Stella’s supposed to protect the one she may need protection from?

I’ve read previous books by the author and was looking forward to read this one. It was quite thrilling and hard to tell who the killer was throughout. I really enjoyed reading.. I was a bit surprised by the ending. It kept my attention throughout and I was waiting for one of the characters to crack!
Wowza! This was a fun one.
Brief Synopsis: Stella is a Best Interest Attorney, and her newest client is Rose Barclay. Rose's high profile parents are getting a divorce, and it's Stella's job to determine the best custody schedule and environment to ensure Rose is safe and successful. To make the situation more complicated, the Barclay's nanny died in a tragic accident while living in their home. Did the nanny truly fall out of the attic window, or was something more sinister at play?
This may be a good fit if you enjoy:
- creepy kid tropes
- complex family dramas
- whodunnits with plenty of suspects
Thoughts: Overall, I thought this was an enjoyable thriller that felt unique. Between the Barclay family drama and Stella's traumatic past, there was a lot going on with constant tension. I suspected everyone at some point. The ending was action-packed, and I felt satisfied by the time I got to the last page.
Rating: I really liked it! (4)
Stella Hudson is a Best Interest Attorney. That is, an attorney who looks into custody disputes to help determine what is in the best interest of the child. In House Of Glass, that child is Rose. The divorce of Beth and Ian is “hostile and divisive” so her determination is of paramount importance. The divorce is a result of an extra-marital affair Ian had with Rose’s nanny, Tina. Tina fell to her death from the third floor of the family house and was declared an accident. But was it? And if it wasn’t how did it happen and who might have played a role? Those questions keep you guessing through the book and doubt surrounds every character, including 9 year old Rose, shifting easily from one to another.
House of Glass is suspenseful and compelling. There are a lot of layers that are eventually peeled back. This is a very satisfying read. Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy.
Rose Barclay is a 9 year old girl, who suffers from traumatic mutism, after witnessing the death of her young, live-in nanny, Tina.
When it’s discovered Tina was pregnant, by Rose’s father, an ugly divorce follows.
Stella Hudson, a best interest attorney is brought in to help represent Rose and determine what is best for her. However, what follows, is a crazy mystery about what is really going on in the Barclay family.
Was Tina’s death an accident, or did someone commit murder ?
I devoured this book in two days. The short chapters were fact paced and thrilling and I just NEEDED to know what happened.
Pekkanen really knows how to keep a reader on the edge of their seat. This book is perfect for any thriller lovers who need to get out of a reading slump.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. I loved this one!
Our main character, Stella, works as an interest attorney to advocate for children in custody battles. After the Barclay’s head into a contentious divorce, their nanny is murdered and a young girl (Rose) witnesses it and goes mute. Stella is working to determine who is most fit to have custody of Rose and her investigation blurs the lines with the murder investigation.
Stella soon realizes this wasn’t an ordinary nanny, but instead the pregnant mistress of Mr. Barclay. She also finds Rose hoarding sharp objects and reading about serial killers, did she have something to do with the murder? Stella also navigates her own past trauma and experiences as she begins to be threatened to leave the nanny situation alone.
There’s something eerie about the house, their private spaces, but how can Stella do her job without any investigation? Who will Rose end up with? What secrets are they keeping in the glass house ?
It was a bit of a drag for me and while I felt it was slow paced, there were revelations and twist throughout that did keep my interest. I’m going 3.5/5 because it was just okay.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 🌟 Stella an advocate is given the assignment to determine the best interests of Rose, a nine year old little girl in a custody battle between her parents. When the nanny falls from a window just before Stella’s arrival this custody case becomes a murder investigation for Stella. Is the mute Rose responsible or is another family member hiding the truth to gain custody.
I found this novel to be riveting at the beginning. There were moments it became unbelievable and over the top. Still a quick read and enjoyable. Thank you NetGalley & St. Martin’s Press for this ARC.
Unfortunately this was my least favorite book by this author. I was not invested in the characters and thought the villain reveal was unrealistic. I was somewhat bored and did not feel that intrigued with the story. I will continue to read this author as I’ve loved her previous books. Thank you for the early copy!
Huge fan of Sarah Pekkanen, and this one included. Her ability to make unique thrillers in a world where redundancy is common, is my favorite thing about her.
Stella Hudson is a BIA lawyer who had a rough childhood. She gets a troubling case, a dead nanny, an Uber rich family.. a whodunit … with a mute child.
This had twists and turns. The first half was a page turner; the latter half was a bit too slow for me, rounded down to 4.
I’ve been in a reading slump and this got me out of my funk, thanks to netgalley for the ARC!
Wow! Loved this one by Sarah Pekkanen. I’ve read a-lot of her works and can’t wait to read more. Everyone should pick this up when pub date arrives!
House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen was very engaging.
A lawyer is assigned a case to assess the parents of a child and recommend custody. The case hits very close to home and she struggles. There is mystery, heartbreak and danger in her future.
This novel is well written and enjoyable!
This was a fast and compelling read filled with family secrets, creepy children, creepier grandmas, and the twists keep on coming! I love Sarah Pekkanen, so this was another great one from her!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC on my kindle in exchange for my honest review. This comes out the first week of August!
This one had real potential from the start but it ended up missing the mark a bit for me. The story was there but I feel as if it fell a bit short. Things were described in detail that I felt didnt need it whereas other things I was waiting for more. The twists and “who done it” were a bit obvious and I feel the shock factor was not there at all which I am always looking for in my thrillers.
The characters were good and I loved the bond that Stella formed with Rose. There were tears in my eyes at the end when she first spoke and said “thank you”. The trauma they shared was a very good part of the story. It was very interesting to read about a custody battle and having a lawyer visit the house and family to make their decision.
Overall good not great and will be forgettable in my mind.
I am always hit/miss with this author…and this one was a bit slow for me. Rose, a 9 year old with traumatic mutism after the death of her nanny, is an odd girl. Her parents are divorcing after it was learned that her father had an affair with the nanny. But HOW the nanny died has always had people speculating. Was it an accident? A suicide? Homicide?? It was fairly predictable and bland.
Thanks to NetGalley for the early copy in exchange for an honest review!
