Cute cozy mystery with ghosts, dogs, cinnamon rolls and poetry. Odd combination that honestly works in this case. I enjoyed it and the sweet relationships of the people surrounding the main character and her husband. I also loved that this book was part 5 of a series and I didn't need to read the first 4 to understand it, cuz I didn't. 😂
Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and Minotaur Books for the ARC. Another fantastic book by Paula Munier. The narration by Kathleen McInerney once again made the book come alive. Mercy once again finds herself with a mystery to solve, multiple mysteries. The fact that there were multiple investigations going on didn’t detract from any of them and it was not difficult to follow along with them or the cast of characters. I liked that there was a bit more of Mercy’s parents in this book, it’s great seeing the family dynamics.
Home at Night is the fifth book I’m the Mercy & Elvis Mysteries series. Mercy and Troy are newly weds and looking for a new home when they come across the Grackle Tree Farm that Mercy knows will be perfect. Making this their new home isn’t as easy as it seems when during their showing of the house Mercy comes across a dead body. Faced with another murder and the mystery surrounding it, Mercy and Elvis are on the case.
I have loved this series since I read my first book and this latest Halloween themed mystery is no different. This series is so well developed and I love the characters and the mysteries they get wrapped up in. I am usually more of a cozy mystery fan, but this series that seems to fall somewhere between cozy and full out thriller has me hooked. If you haven’t picked up this series yet, I definitely recommend if. In my opinion all of these books can be read as standalone, as well as part of the series. I really enjoyed this latest book and look forward to seeing what comes next for Mercy and Elvis!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book!
This wasn’t at all what I was I expecting based on the description, but I enjoyed the story and the Halloween/fall theme infused mystery.
I was expecting more of that and less procedural elements based on the publishers summary, but I ended up liking the book despite it not really being my typically preferred subgenre.
It’s a solid mystery with likable characters and I loved the dogs’ role in the plot. The writing is a bit simpler than what I tend to prefer and I thought the pregnancy side plot was obnoxious, but on the whole it’s an enjoyable read.
I enjoy this author and have read many of her books, but I simply could not get past the narrator of this audiobook. She has what I like to call the woman’s whisper voice, which seems to be popular with some publishers. To me, that, that little girl lisp is like finger nails on a chalkboard. I couldn’t listen for more than 15 minutes.
