Borderline is a fascinating look into the world of Border Patrol. Well read by the author, I was completely absorbed into the complex and demanding job descriptions presented. It is an enlightening and informative book that deserves to be read (or listened to) by anyone that; challenges the United States required legal path to immigration, has no idea (like I didn't) how much the agents are used in service to our country and internationally beyond the task of border security; thinks Border Patrol is ineffective or unnecessary, but also for those who just want to appreciate fully the patriotic duty that our Border Patrol agents attempt to uphold everyday. Thank you to Net Galley and MacMillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this ARC. Most of All Thank You to Vincent Vargas and all the Border Patrol Agents past, present and future for your dedication to keeping our country safe.

Thank you @macmillan.audio for the early access to the Audiobook, Borderline. I had hoped to finish it prior to the publication date but fell short. Our Border Patrol Agents and the special task forces within the agency are extremely important to national security and helping people in need. I appreciate Vincent’s and others in the agency’s service for our country.

Borderline was different than I thought it would be. I picked it as one of my “Non-Fiction November” reads. I enjoyed learning more about the Border Patrol and special task forces within the agency, but I also felt like it was a text book read and material for people considering applying for the Border Patrol. It did not have the entertainment factor I was looking for.

I appreciate that it was not political at all.

My favorite parts were the details of individual days and operations Vincent and his team participated in such as a water rescue, a fake water rescue, and karaoke night prior to a huge mission in search of escaped inmates. Unfortunately the details of many of the operations are likely confidential.

This book by former US border agent Vincent Vargas is an engaging first-person perspective on the challenges facing immigration in the United States. Vargas, an army vet with combat deployments, gives his personal view of life for those trying to accomplish the near-impossible task of managing the flow of migrants on the southern border. In it, he discusses his views on the topic and his experiences with the violent smugglers - coyotes - and the often poor and desperate people making the perilous journey to find a better life in the United States. Vargas is not a professional writer, and it often shows, as some of the writing could be more polished. Regardless, his view offers insights into our broken immigration system.

Borderline

I thought this was a great book! It gave a detailed look into the border patrol and its history along with personal accounts and some that left me speechless. The author is seemingly a selfless person and Hero. I enjoyed hearing his story while also learning more about the Border Patrol in general. There’s a lot more to the Border patrol than meets the eye with the different organizations and also the help in places other than the border during times of crisis, training ,etc.

I had the audiobook version and thought it was great!

Thanks Net Galley , Macmillan Audio and the Author for this Audio Arc!
