This is a silly book all about what if's, crazy what if's that kids would imagine like cats in space. The illustrations are well done and the book is great for young readers.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Annick Press for the opportunity to review this ARC.
I really enjoyed this work. The imagination story and the illustration was amazing. Definitely one I’m going to buy for my grandson.. especially for when he gets into that what if phase of his life… Again thank you
This is a fun journey through the imagination of a child. The illustrations are out of this world and show in vivid images what impossible things can look like through the eyes of a child. This is a read you have to go picture to picture to enjoy what crazy imaginings are happening throughout.
Lots of pretty colors, but that was the best part. The sentences were often run-on. There was not actually much of a story here, just kids imagining different scenarios. It could lead to fun discussions with a young child.
The ART in this book is GORGEOUS. I would buy prints of any of the pages and hang them up in my classroom. The imaginative scenarios are created so vividly and beautifully on the page, even the most outlandish ones. While I thought the book would solely focus on bedtime, the story gives many other “what if” scenarios before diving into the no bedtime. While it was cool to see the many creative ideas, the majority of the book seemed to lack flow. It didn’t tie together until the very end with the bed time imaginings. Even so, this would be a hit at bedtime or any read aloud.
This is a cute picture book with stunning illustrations and a fun premise of asking “what if” questions. The illustrations are colorful and absolutely fantastic. The text was a bit rambling at times, and I wish there was some rhyming included.. Despite that, it has a fun feel and my child was giggling throughout story time when we read it together.
Thank you to NetGalley and Annick Press for the ARC.
My favorite thing about this book was the beautiful illustrations. They reminded me of watercolor Pixar animation! The use of color was really gorgeous and fit the whimsical, imaginative premise of the story.
The prose reminded me of I Love You, Stinky Face, where the children ask a simple What If... question and then follow it up with wild tales and speculations. Some of the pages spoke of unconditional love and the protection of your family and made me tear up!
However, I did have a little trouble with the run-on sentences and sparse punctuation. If reading this aloud to a child, I would have difficulty placing the correct inflection and even found myself getting a little lost in the descriptions, even having to go back and re-read the paragraph to understand what was going on or which clauses were referring to which subjects.
This cute and imaginative picture book has lovely illustrations, portraying two siblings who like to ask "what if..." questions together to imagine fanciful things. There's no real story here, just random imaginings, but the illustrations are beautiful and vibrant.
According to the premise, this book represents an indigenous family that lives in an urban environment. The book has nothing to do with their racial or cultural background, and readers wouldn't necessarily know the characters' ethnicity apart from being told.
The illustrations are so colourful and vivid, they beautifully portray the story. The sentences a bit long and rambling for me, but i can see how it might be meant to emulate children speak. I enjoyed reading it, and will probably use it for a bedtime or pyjama story time.
I received an advanced copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Ahhh, the “what if’s” of childhood and its many mysteries of bedtime. For two siblings, bedtime becomes whimsical as they fly upon dragons of crystalized oranges and reds. As they swim with rainbow fish and dance with monsters from the closet. From giant cats in space to ballerina flamingos, this brother and sister team sees all sorts of magical things in their dreamland. With family at the center, I felt this picture book immediately drew upon the imagination of the siblings. Colors swoosh and prance on each page, drawing the viewer into its fantastical worlds. With a moral or lesson on being yourself and letting the dreaming begin, “What If Bedtime Didn’t Exist?”, is something unforgettable.
The illustrations in this book really helped to transport you into the imaginations of the children. I loved the cadence of the words.
Whimsical and colourful, this picture book will spark the imagination of young readers into asking themselves a million new what-if questions. I particularly love the fresh and bright illustrations.

Ah the beautiful power of 'what if'. This is a delightfully illustrated and written book that is filled with imagination and possibility. I adore it!
The illustrations on this book are excellent- 5 stars! The text in this book is just ok- 3 stars. The sentences ramble on, the ideas and content feel very random, and I felt like it should rhyme but didn’t. This children’s book is very imaginative but also lacks a linear trajectory. Overall, I’m averaging this out to 4 stars because it is a true feast for the eyes even if I would change the writing.
This was a fun book to read with my 5 year old at bed time. The question of what if throughout had her asking her own questions and answering the ones in book which made her giggle.
Thank you Netgalley, the publisher and Author for my ARC!
Fun book to get children thinking about other interesting things. Was a great conversation starter for different what if scenarios. Colorful and interesting illustrations.
This darling book is full of fun and imagination. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. The bright colors are engaging. The text is a great way to help children explore their imaginations. I can see this book becoming a favorite bedtime story in our house.
I like the way the text and colorful pictures worked together to stimulate imagination. This would be a lovely book to read to a child as they settle into bed at night. Hey, I’d like someone read it aloud to me, an adult, as I go to sleep. Is there an audiobook version? This picture book gets thoughts flowing in magical ways as the reader turns each page to a new “What if?”
This delightful book was full amazing ideas after the characters thought " I wonder if...." throughout their normal daily tasks. The illustrations were so colorful and delightful. This would be a great read aloud to spark creativity in the classroom and a wonderful cozy read before bedtime!
