Another big-hearted middle grade/early reader book featuring returning favorite Syrian Canadian immigrant, Salma.
In this latest book Salma begs her parents to let her join the swimming team only to discover criticism from her community over her wearing a traditional swimsuit that reveals her body (something against her cultural norm).
Salma has to deal with more big feelings about chasing her dreams while also being true to herself. I loved how her friends and family supported Salma's swimming goals despite pressures to have her quit. I'm also excited to see the final illustrations as they were still mostly rough sketches in the ARC copy I read.
Highly recommended and great for fans of books like Swimming into trouble by Angela Ahn. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!!
