I received a copy of this audiobook through Netgalley. This is my honest review.

I felt somewhat lost for quite a while in this story, because it's the second book in a series, and like usual, I haven't read the first book. Maybe one of these days I'll start paying attention to these things before I get books. Not that I couldn't understand what was going on, but I wanted more explanation several times; explanation that would probably be tedious for people familiar with the series.

This story felt like it had a little bit of everything, humor, action, romance and a main character that was trying to single-handedly save the Earth from an entire alien invasion/extermination. I appreciated Jake's sense of humor, but his boy romance was a little lacking. It wasn't the main focus of the story though, so I guess it can maybe be forgiven.

Once I felt caught up with the story from the flashbacks, I really got into it and was excited to see how Jake would save things.

The narration was really well done and it was easy to tell which character we were with in this multi-POV story. The opposite gendered voices also didn't come across like caricatures.

Overall I give The Darker the Skies 3.9472 out of 5 stars.

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher/author for providing me with an ALC in exchange for my honest review.

OMG!!! This book was exactly what I wanted it to be! I loved it. I will make sure to check out other books by this author. When I requested this I was just intrigued by the concept of it and I loved how it turned out. This story had a great plot and if you have read this and enjoyed it, This was so much. It was such a great story. I would say give this one a try. I will continue to follow this author. Way to go to this author for not letting me down.

I highly enjoyed the narrator of the audiobook. Kept me listening.

I have mixed feelings when it comes to this one. I didn't have an issue with the narrators voice unlike a lot of people but I found the books structure difficult to follow. It jumped around a lot, 3 days before hand and then present day and I didn't feel like it was obvious enough as to what was actually going on.

That being said, what I did understand was good, descriptions were good and if it was a little easier to follow then perhaps it would have gotten a better rating. I can't say anything was obvious or if there were any plot twists either because it was hard to follow.

A fun adventure with high stakes and drama. Although this one is the second in a series and I haven't read the first, it does okay as a stand-alone. It's written from the POV's of multiple characters but in a way that makes it easy to know who's who. All the action and intrigue make for a quick read that held my interest throughout. As this is a series, the ending leaves a few things in limbo that I'm sure will be revisited in the coming instalments. All in all, this was very entertaining and I look forward to the continuing story.

I enjoyed the story, but unfortunately I could not get on with the narrators voice. I will be buying the ebook to see if I enjoy the story more

Jake Saunders is the classic hero. He's brave and daring, while still humanly flawed. After his victory with Cal and Diane in the war against ____ in book 1, "The Darker the Skies" begins with a glimpse into his life as a lauded war hero post-victory. Peace, however, doesn't last for long and Jake a soon faced with a familiar adversary who launches an attack against him and all that he loves.

This book includes:
- large cast of characters and multiple POVs
- traditional "hero's journey
- space travel and intergalactic war
- aliens (both friend and foe)
- cliffhanger ending

As someone who grew up on Star Trek - I think I've seen every episode of the original series, Enterprise, Next Generation, Voyager, DS9, and of course, all the new movies - "The Darker the Skies" had a real sense of nostalgia for me. As someone who was once immersed in the theater of interplanetary war and politics, many elements of this story felt familiar. While I haven't read book 1 of this series, the storyline was very easy to follow and the character's motivations were clear.

I don't feel like I have a lot to say about this book. It was well written and the plot felt well fleshed out. There is a character who I won't name in avoidance of spoilers who frustrated me beyond belief and Jake annoyed me in his love games, but I was pleasantly entertained besides that. My only complaint is that there was one scene with Cal and an alien woman that was unnecessary and felt sexist and demeaning to women. The editor really should have caught that one, especially since it lent nothing to the plot.

I recommend this book to lovers of Star Trek and Star Wars, and anyone looking for a hero's journey in the true sense of the word.

I received this audiobook as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and CamCat Books.

This was a good book. While realizing that this is the second book in a series, it wasn't too hard to understand what was going on and realizing the past of the book world. The book starts out with action and keeps the book full of action. The characters are relatable and make you worry for them. The story is good, and the plot is very interesting. I really enjoyed every minute of this book. The narration of this book was amazing. I love how it was all narrated and all the different voices from the narrator.

I had to make myself get through this because I personally couldn’t stand the narrator vocals. But once I did get through it I liked the story. I loved the idea of Jake having to save the world and his beloved while having so many things all happening at once

'The Darker the Skies,' the second book in the Earth United Series, offers a fun and fast-paced young adult space adventure with a mix of action and humor. It can be read as a standalone, although some unfinished business suggests more books to come in this series. The story keeps you engaged and entertained, and it's a promising sequel with character development and intriguing world-building. This is not my typical read - but I enjoyed the story!
