“The Forgotten Farmhouse by the Sea” by Caroline Young is a heartwarming and unputdownable tale that transports readers to the windswept beaches and hidden coves of Anglesey. Nan Green, drawn back to the island from her childhood memories, convinces her husband to buy a ramshackle old cliffside farmhouse. But as secrets unravel and old wounds begin to heal, Nan’s dream of a perfect family home by the sea faces challenges. This emotional and uplifting novel beautifully explores old dreams, new beginnings, and the healing power of community.
This story was so good that it was Luke actuator being there myself in the bin. She had written very relatable characters.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for an audio copy of this book for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC of this title.
Nan Green convinces her husband Robin to buy the old farmhouse of her childhood memories.
Robin keeps his life in the cities with plans to come out as often as he can but then those visits become far and few in between. Nan needs to start figuring out how to repair the old house and keep her girls safe.
This is a story of heartbreak and healing.
I enjoyed listening to this story. Thank you.

This is my audiobook and it was mesmerising.
The description of the house and this island is so beautiful that if you close your eyes and listen to the book, you can feel the wind in your hair.
The idea of staying in a remote island without knowing anyone or knowing local language can be really scary. The same situation happened when Nancy decided to move with her twins in the remote island in a house by the sea which holds its own secrets.
She feels more lonely and alone when the reality hits her that her dream home and life is not the same she imagined. Her partners grown distant, her mother’s history with the house and its previous owners always keeps her away.
Just when she was on the brim of giving up, hope comes up.. in form of friendship and love.
This book is pure emotions and acceptance of past, no matter how cruel and crazy it is. Once you accept the past and make peace with it, you can embrace the present with more bravery and compassion.
I loved how each character is described, how they had their own secrets and eventually with their growing friendship, these characters mature and support each other. The way their relationships evolve is described beautifully.
The book is well paced and keeps you engaged. Thanks @Netgally and @carolinayoung for the ARC.
An enchanting story of a woman returning to her roots at a difficult time in her life. It was at times heartbreaking and at other times, uplifting. I enjoyed this book immensely.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Very interesting read! I was not sure about this one at the beginning, but by the end, I was glad that I had stuck out the book.
This story is one that is going to make you look at some things in your own life. Nan was an entirely relatable character, and her frustration and determination showed through the pages. The vivid descriptions in the book almost made you feel as though you were walking the coastline itself.
I thought this book was okay. The MC seemed very sad and was trapped in a toxic relationship, she moves to a house that she thinks will solve all her problems but it does not. She has to face the realities of life but it all ends up working out in the end. I don't think this book was entirely for me, but I can see how others would really enjoy it.
Thank you to Netgalley, Dreamscape Select, Storm Publishing, and Caroline Young for giving me the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.
Don't expect a lot of action or adventure in this book; just enjoy a nice, easy-going novel about someone making a big move, getting a divorce, and getting used to her new life.
Some of the story is pretty predictable but that's ok. The characters are interesting, the setting is unusual, and the story is nice.
The narration is very good.
Nan Green a young mother of twin girls has been visiting the beautiful Welsh Island of Anglesey for her entire life. On her most recent visit she discovers an old cottage from her childhood is for sale. She decides she must have this cottage to raise her family in and slowly talks her city bred husband Robin into buying it and moving there. All is well in the beginning, Robin and Nan enjoy their time renovating and updating the cottage. Nan is living her dream. But as time goes by Robin is unwilling to work from home and he takes a place back in Cambridge for work. He does not visit often and when he does they often quarrel. Nan is lonely with only her two little girls for company and seeks out friends with a couple of local folk who have have sympathetic hearts. As Robin and Nan become more distant from each other Nan is forced to learn how to rely on herself and her own strengths. She begins down the path of knowing herself. It is a good path and she begins to heal from hurts from the past. There are many secrets in this novel, some are secrets upon secrets. As Nan begins to join in more as a local she is forced to find answers and uncover many of these secrets with the help of family and her new friends.
I really enjoyed this novel, it was intriguing and complex and I really like all of the characters. Well, maybe not Robin so much. However nobody is perfect and he did have his role to play in Nans story. The description of the island and the Welsh people was beautiful and made me feel like I want to visit this special paradise in Wales. Very highly recommended. Thank you to Net Galley for an opportunity to listen to the audio version of this wonderful book.
A well thought out storyline, beautifully written and narrated. Really enjoyed listening to this book.
If you ever have watched Gavin and Stacey you can throughly enjoy this book. I listen to this book and the reader is amazing. Her accents are perfect and she makes you feel like your are part of the world of the story. The author has a wonderful way of bringing the story to life and draws you into the Welsh culture. I highly recommend this book especially ones who loves the Welsh culture.
The Forgotten Farmhouse By the Sea by Caroline Young takes place in Wales. It's a mysterious and somewhat romantic story about self discovery. This story follows Nan and her marriage problems, as well as her love for the island and what it means for her to get back to it, but not everyone is willing to go back to it. Read to find out the whole story.
This book I expected to read about a family redoing am old farmhouse. It is not the base of this book at all. Nan's marriage is far from ideal. Her abusive controlling husband constantly belittled hers. Throughout the book it is pretty much their arguments. It brings full depiction of how big of an impact Robin has on his wife Nan. Nan finds herself at the farmhouse and learns how to not be so reliant on such a toxic marriage. This is one of those read once and not again as complexity of characters is alot and not the light read was expecting
While it took a little while to warm up to Nan, the main character, once I did, I loved watching how she transformed from second-guessing every little thing into a confident and capable woman. Initially, I thought the second-guessing was a personality trait, but very soon, we learn that it's a conditioned response after years of being dominated.
I loved the town Nan and her family moved to, and how the people really rallied around one another. I especially liked Nan's uncle and his sage wisdom.
Throughout the story, we see Nan embarking on a journey of self-discovery where she ultimately learns, not only to trust herself, but to love herself and others. Very heartwarming!
Thank you to Caroline Young, Dreamscape Select, and NetGalley for an advance review copy.
3.5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed this book about a woman (named Nan) finding herself and her place in the world. You will be rooting for her from the beginning. The writer did an incredible job of describing the scenery of the island Nan moves to, and I really could envision what Nan’s was seeing and experiencing. This is my first book by this author and I will look for others!

I am very appreciate of the ARC I received, and so I am breaking down the score based on the story and the narration. Overall, I am giving three stars as I found the sorry and audio to be three stars each. It took me a while to adjust to the the way the author wrote this book (lots of details and time spent describing what was going on around the characters before getting to what I believe was the point of each chapter. But once I grew used to the writing style and flow, I enjoyed the book—especially the female main character. That being said, I had a hard time with the narrator until I got to chapter 6, and then I must have adjusted to her voice or was able to subconsciously over look little things about her infliction of her voice. Although I loved how to narrated the female main character’s husband (her voice perfectly captured how I’d imagined him to sound based on his book description).
This was a special family drama. As I expected, my heart aches and my jaw dropped a few times. This was any easy story to get caught up in. Wanted to know how things would wrap up and didn’t want it to end, simultaneously!
I adored this audio book so relaxing to listen too imagining the beautiful sea and views of Anglesey. Loved the narrators voice and the characters too I warmed to all of them apart from Robin for obvious reasons lol I found myself getting a bit frustrated with him! Nan was amazing I’m glad it worked out for her and the ending was just as I’d hoped. Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for the opportunity to listen to it. Recommend to all.
This novel was set in a beautiful scenery. It was easy to imagine the beauty from the descriptions by the author. It makes me want to visit!
~Spoiler alert~
From the start, I found myself rooting for the main character, hoping she would realize that she is in a toxic marriage relationship, and would find her way out. I am glad she does realize it, and finds strength within herself to change her situation and be empowered. She didn’t just lean into another man for rescue, but did it herself.
The plot twists at the end was a bit confusing. Lots of crossed relationships, and I didn’t bother trying to untangle it in my mind. I could have focused a bit more on the narration to get it, but not that it really matters. In the end, there is healing, and happy feelings.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Nan has loved Anglesey since she was a child. Then I decrepit old farmhouse comes on the market on the island, and Nan convinces her husband they should buy it. But any thoughts of happily ever after disappear. Soon after they move in, her husband is becoming increasingly distant, and at the same time her mother will not visit her at the house. Nan had refused to believe local gossip that claimed the farmhouse was cursed, but she’s beginning to wonder when she meets single dad, Harri, Nan finds herself drawn to him. She senses that like her, he’s an old soul in need of healing. And she finds herself making friends with another single mother, who becomes both a soul sister, and an inspiration. One of the best stories I’ve listen to in a long time. A lovely story in a gorgeous setting.
