Review:
This is a beautifully written story about the impact of first love. Written over a dual time line it tells the story of Kitty which starts in 1944 The second time line starts in 2011 this timeline centers around Amy Kitty’s granddaughter a strong ambitious woman who runs her own tea room. Slowly the two time lines are interwoven and nicely concluded at the end.

The plot is well developed with a few twists and turns which keeps it interesting till the end.. The writing is very captivating and full of warmth. The characters are well developed, their actions are well explained this made them likeable and realistic.

Overall:

This is a well written book with a plot that flows well and captures you from the start. The story has nice realistic characters. It is a nice story without being too sweet so it felt realistic, the few twists and turns kept it interesting till the end without being too predictable. . I highly recommend reading it.

I really loved this book. I really love historical fiction books and this was just what I wanted. It was very well thought out and the romance was very good.

This wartime romance tells of first loves, lost loves, and true loves of two different generations of women.

Set in Suffolk in 1944 and 2011, this is a sweet read that can easily be finished in one sitting.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in return for my honest review.

This author is one of my favorites. She weaves a lovely story between two time periods. The story engages you from beginning to end. I know it is a good book when I look up some of the author's research material afterwards and I did with this one. This book covers a seldom mentioned historical venue--the American bombers who left and returned from places along the coast of England during World War 2. I loved the plot twist at the end.

One difficulty for me is the fantasy. I truly wish their were men (maybe there are, I just haven't met them) that were so honorable, sensitive and self sacrificing!

All in all, great book by a great author. Give it a read!

What a book. Kitty takes us through 1944-45 then we meet her again in 2011. Her Granddaughter Amy we also meet in 2011 and travel through that year with her. Lots of interchanging and a bit cheesy at the end but it’s the correct ending. Thanks to Lorna and her publisher. Thanks also to NetGalley

A lovely book to read on my day off!

I love Lorna Cooks books and think she should be a lot more prominent on the shelves than she is. She picks subjects and places that you've never heard of and makes something wonderful from them! I have read lots of books about the war but this one felt fresh and different. I enjoyed the author note too where there's an extra treat.

I wanted to love this one, the plot was so interesting and I loved a good WWII book. I struggled with the writing though, it felt a little underwhelming. The characters were great, although the plot got a little confusing towards the end. I’m torn on how I feel about it, it was heartwarming but just a little too underwritten for my liking.

This is a lovely dual timeline story. If you enjoy WWII historical fiction that includes a sweet love story, and is multi-generational, this is a great pick!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for access to this e-ARC.

This is the 5th Lorna Cook book I've read and it was enjoyable! I like the late-in-life relationship aspect as well as the realistic story that leads up to it; not always an ideal happy ending yet people find a way to live and be happy.

The only thing that struck me as odd was when Amy & Jack were visiting the military cemetery (which seemed to be pretty big and had a visitors' center + monuments/memorials, etc.) in, what I believe was said to be the "next county over" and Amy had no idea it was there. It seems pretty unlikely that a 30-something who had lived in that area her whole life would not have known about this meaningful and rather extensive sight.

This gorgeous cover is so perfect for a beautiful wartime romance. It's a story of first loves, lost loves, and true loves of two different generations of women. I read this book in one sitting and was completely enthralled by both timelines. Set in a small village in Suffolk in 1944, the reader gets an inside look at how fatigued people were as the war raged on. With an American bomber base close by, there was plenty of drama as B-17s carried out daytime bombings on targets in Europe. In 2011, very little has changed in the same village except that the airbase is long gone. If you love character-rich stories with romance that breaks your heart and heals your soul, you are in for a treat. I couldn't have put this book down once I started reading it for any reason. It was just what I needed today.

My thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the digital ARC. All opinions and the review are entirely my own.

Another spellbinding tale from Lorna Cook; her historical romances are so good due to the romance but also the sheer volume of research she must put into them, I highly recommend this book, and all the others she has written. A fantastic book from a fantastic author.

Charlie and Kitty fell in love and were going to be married after the war. Charlie's plane was bombed and after all his men jumped , he went down and was presumed dead. This story is so amazing you must read about

What is there not to like. Love stories set both now and during the Second World War. Really lovely characters and the whole book is so well written. This is not the first book that I have read and enjoyed by Lorna Cook and I hope she writes many more.

What a special story! This dual timeline tale takes the reader back to Suffolk England during the last part of WWII. It’s about good men and women trying to do their part to win the war, who found love, then lost love. Two generations of Suffolk women, now living in 2011, find that dreams can still come true. A rare jewel of a book!
