Big Nate is back for another instalment of 6th grade fun and games in Big Nate: This Means War!

From locker wars to haunted houses , the eternal struggle with academics, baseball and summer holiday pranks, this is is another fun comic that hearkens back to Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes, with a 21st century twist (including one standalone strip of "Covid Kid"!) .

Another thoroughly enjoyable book from Lincoln Peirce.

Big Nate has kept me laughing for years, and I hope he keeps me laughing for many more. It's always so much fun to introduce new kids to Big Nate. Plus, he's a real timesaver. I never have to shelve his books. They disappear as soon as they hit the shelving cart.

This is hilarious, filled with so many laugh-out-loud and snort-out-loud moments! It reads just like all the previous Big Nate graphic novels, it is fun, it is entertaining, it is silly, it is fast-paced, it is a real page turner that will keep any kid glued to the pages. Drawings are consistent with the previous books, text goes hand in hand also, it is perfect. I’m absolutely sure every elementary school and middle grade age kid who gets this book will enjoy it.

My son really loved this book, and said it was one of his favorite big Nate books. The books are a big hit with 8-10 year-olds and great at inspiring reluctant readers--he'll spend hours reading these, which is unusual for him.

I read this book on my own through the lens of an elementary school librarian and then with my 10 year old son, who is an avid Big Nate fan. I think this book will be a hit with graphic novel and humor genres, but there's a lot of good content to enjoy. The humor is well done, the colors and graphic are eye-catching, and the characters are just a lot of fun. This series is crazy popular in my library, and this title will be no exception. Big Nate and his pals have a place in my heart, and they make this grown-up laugh out loud sometimes!

I downloaded this book for my 10 year old son who has read several of the previous Big Nate comic books. He finished this one in one day. I also looked over his shoulder and read a few panels that he pointed out to me. They were pretty funny! He says it’s not necessary for anyone to have read all the previous books to enjoy this one. He really loved it and looks forward to more in the future.
Thank you #netgalley for providing the e-galley in return for an honest review.

Big Nate graphic novels are popular in my elementary school. I have most of the series on the shelves and this will be a good addition. The art work is always colorful and enhances the story. Bit Nate is a perpetual 6th grader who loves hanging out with his friends and avoiding school work. In this one he is upset that he has things in common with his teacher, has a messy locker challenge, team gets a new name, pulls a few pranks etc. These are geared towards upper elementary school age kids 8-12. I find them mindless fun and there are always a few lines in there to entertain a grown-up reader. Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the temporary ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review.

Big Nate: This Means War! was a slam dunk hit with my 9 year old, who spent his birthday weekend reading the book TWICE, back to back. Now if that isn't a glowing endorsement, I don't know what is.
What do we even say to review the book? This is book 30 in the series (if you're new here go back to book 1, what weirdo starts a series with the most recent release 2 and a half dozen books later?), so when you pick this up, you know what you're getting. At this point Lincoln Peirce can do no wrong. As long as he keeps writing these books, kids will be reading them!

I have read every one of the Big Nate books and enjoy every one of them. I love the antics of Nate in middle school with his friends. And love seeing the trouble he gets into with the adults. I can't wait to read the next one in the series when it releases.

My son got me reading the Big Nate series when he was in elementary school, and I have happily kept reading them into his teen years. He still enjoys them too, so we will typically buy them when they are released. So, it was nice to get. a chance to do a pre-release read through of the latest book and to offer some thoughts.

All in all, this was a great addition to the series. All of the characters you are expecting pop in, but as I have said in previous reviews, I find I get the most enjoyment out of the books when the whole collection follows a strong theme. And that when it's a bit more random or full of disparate themes, I am a little disappointed. That's not to say that I don't like the story, but that it tends to drop me to a 4 star rating. And this was one of those volumes. It did flow well, and there were a lot of linked story lines, but all in all, there was no real unifying flow. Maybe that it covered a whole year of school, but I'm not sure it did.

I loved the story that kicked it off, which was the messy locker war, and I had fun with the new name for their team. Chuckled aloud.

My son was very jealous of me getting to read this, and he is already asking me to pre-order, so I guess that's a good sign given that he is now well into his teen years and only seems to read these books willingly. And that is a real way to measure how much fun these are, because he reads nothing willingly. Except maybe a video game cut scene.

My 10 year old son loves these books! He read it pretty quickly, and said he can’t wait to own it physically!
Great book for younger children (or adults).
