This was everything hot and steamy that you want. It was so well written that I could just imagine the beautiful Alaska written about in this book.
When McKenna needs to make money to keep jher grandmom in the nursing home she is in, she answers a personal ad. She moves to Alaska to be a pretend fiance.
This book was fun. The stuff the crazy ex girlfriend does is insane. Beside the love story brewing.
I really loved this book. It was a fast read
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and already excited to start another book in the series. It’s a heartwarming tale of a woman wanting to give someone they love the best care they can and a man looking to scare away a mistake he made the year prior. Yes, there are many characters in the book with all 6 siblings, but it is still easy enough to follow along. There are several cute and funny moments; as well as a smooth and enjoyable read.
"Summer in Skagway" is another delightful addition to Katy's Odds Are Good series that had me hooked from the start. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Alaska, the story immerses you in its magical scenery and charming small-town atmosphere. McKenna and Tanner's romance is a slow burn, filled with sweet moments and unexpected twists.
McKenna, a commitment-phobic college professor, and Tanner, desperate to rid himself of a clingy ex, enter into a fake fiancé arrangement that promises both financial gain and emotional complication. As they navigate their summer together, their relationship evolves, fraught with challenges from their pasts and the fear of getting hurt again.
What I loved most about this book is the genuine connection between the characters and the beautiful writing that transports you to the heart of Skagway. With its engaging storyline, relatable characters, and captivating setting, "Summer in Skagway" is a must-read for romance fans. And with the potential for a new series focusing on the Stewart siblings, I'm eagerly anticipating more from Katy! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you NetGalley for this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a super fun read! Bit of a guilty pleasure but very entertaining 😂 I’ve just recently travelled to Skagway as well and this story really tracked with the vibe you get from this town in Alaska! Kind hard to picture the FMC. I don’t know excerpt why, but I just felt like her personality didn’t match with her physical description 🤷♀️ I loved loved loved Kate’s writing and character dialogue!
3.5 stars
While I enjoyed Summer in Skagway overall, there were a few specific scenes that took me out which are spoilers, I'll explain below.
Tanner has an ex who is basically a criminal so he hires a woman from Seattle to come pose as his fiancee in Alaska for the summer. McKenna needs money and decides it would be a good way to earn some quickly. Their romance is a little whirlwind but overall very enjoyable. It was a relaxing book to read.

The first time Tanner and McKenna have sex, she really pressures him into a no condom situation which I did not like. If the spots had been flipped, it would have felt a little rape-y. I wish it would have just been a passionate moment in which a condom slipped both their minds or they had a conversation about it before things got hot and heavy.
This book definitely has it all! It’s steamy and sassy, it’s break your heart and put it back together and everything in between.
I absolutely fell in love with McKenna and Tanner. I loved her fierceness and the way he folded like a lawn chair for her.
Katy Regnery is an excellent storyteller and I can’t wait to binge the rest of the family series!
Tanner loves living in Alaska, when he learns his crazy ex-girlfriend is coming, he places an ad for a fake fiancée. love the story and the setting.
I love a good Fake Fiancee story and when it is done to ward off a crazy ex, even better. I really liked Tanner and McKenna's characters and love them together. It is always fun to watch the fake turn real. Very enjoyable read.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review post-publication.
This was a well-balanced novel with equal portions of family/relationship drama to romance to Alaskan history. I thought the characters were good and the setting was wonderfully described. The influx of cruisers and the impact on the small town was perfect. There's so much to enjoy in this novel.
However, the following have prevented me from continuing with the series despite LOVING Skagway:
1) the cover - what's he looking at?!
2) the crude language/open door 'romance' - completely unnecessary and doesn't add to the story
3) the imbalance of research - fantastic history/description of Skagway BUT not the same effort put into the names of places/things (i.e. I kept correcting the bar as Red Onion, one of the cruise ships had the correct name, but Emerald Princess was misnamed and the Carnival ship named doesn't exist.) For those of us in the area, we are confused as to why so much effort went into getting the history correct, but not the same attention to other things. Less than 5 minutes online could have fixed this glaring inaccuracy.
I really wanted a new series to read and was excited to hear about this new one featuring my favourite place.
Thank you for the opportunity to read a new-to-me author's work.
I enjoyed this story. A nice blend of humor, heat and feels. I was totally engaged in this story and the romance. Overall, a solid story, and I look forward to the other siblings stories. *I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Fake fiancee to happily ever after.
Tanner loves being an Alaskan. He breathes history, life and everything in-between regarding town of Skagway. When he's ex girlfriend wreck a havoc before she went back to lower states, he needed a solution to keep her away from him. So he decides to place an ad on a magazine for fake fiancee and someone "McKenna" answers the call.
McKenna and Tanner were not each other's type but sparks will fly. They have more common than they think and it will bring them together in many different ways.
I didn't think the setting was in Alaska but after reading this book, I would love to visit and experience their cabin and rest of their adventures. This book makes you laugh, cry and warm your heart. I really enjoyed reading Tanner and McKenna. Since there will be more books about Tanner's siblings, I can't wait.
Thanks to Netgalley and Author for my copy.
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Beautiful story with the strong silent type meeting his not so perfect match at first. Tanner hires a fake fiancé and he meets his little but fierce match in McKenna.
Great read with family, friends and one disaster of a person that tries to break up their new found friendship and love. Love proves to concur all in this one.
A quick and cute romance read!
The plot:
Tanner has a crazy ex-girlfriend, and out of desperation posts an ad for a fake fiance to hopefully cool his ex down and get her out of his hair. McKenna needs some extra money to help pay for her grandmother’s medical care, so what does she have to lose.
The good:
I love Tanner. It shouldn't be refreshing to have a gentleman MC, but alas, it is. Tanner is one of the good ones. He's thoughtful, responsible, and not afraid of his feelings and for that reason he was my favorite character.
The bad:
McKenna was not… ideal. Here we have this wonderful, considerate, and thoughtful male character in Tanner, and then we get Mckenna? She was rather selfish, despite being devoted to her grandmother. Actually, her devotion to her grandmother came from a place of selfishness as well… so… she sucked.
Overall, McKenna didn't ruin the book. She did have some redeeming qualities, and Tanner makes up for the rest. I'd recommend this book if you like cheesy romances, and fake fiance tropes!
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
This is the first book that I have read in this series but it was easy to read and understand the characters and who doesn't love an Alaska romance? I did take a bit to warm up to Tanner as common sense says that you don't run through all the women in town!
I loved that McKenna was such a great granddaughter that she put her life and wants aside to care for her grandmother.
The fake girlfriend to real is a favorite of mine so it was fun to watch as the fake relationship slowly took on a life of its own and became real feelings. Also, love the HEA.
It took me a minute to get into this novel but then I did and really enjoyed the dynamic between the characters...and then before I knew it, it was over. A quick, swoony read.
Tanner finds himself facing a dilemma when the woman he spent some time with last summer decides that she is going to return. He knows that he was lucky to escape that relationship so the last thing he wants is her pursuing him so he decides to place an ad looking for a pretend fiancé.
McKenna is facing a dilemma of her own as she wants to support her beloved grandmother who was always there for her. Between the funds that Tanner is offering and a summer job this could be the answer that both of them are looking for but developing feelings for each other weren’t part of the plan.
The attraction between them is undeniable, the interactions between them are entertaining and there is a great cast of secondary characters which add both humor and emotion to the story.
Summer in Skagway is the first book I have read by the author Katy Regnery. I absolutely loved reading this book. It did not disappoint at all and had a great amount of drama for the story. Throughout reading this novel I did like as well as enjoyed the secondary characters who are friends & family members, which I hope the author will deceive to write standalone books and make the books into a series. Tanner is the male main character who is known as a playboy but struggles to cut his ex-girlfriend out of his life when she doesn’t leave him alone. He decides to come back for the duration of summer as well as deciding to get a fake fiance to discourage his ex-girlfriend's unwanted advances towards him. The second main character is a female named Mckenna who has been struggling to take care of her grandmother who has Alzheimers. Even though Mckenna's journey is sad, I did really find this a good emotional and hilarious novel. Summer in Skagway is a four star read!
Give me a book based in Alaska, and it’s almost guaranteed I will love it. Not sure what it is! And Summer in Skagway did not disappoint! The pacing was great, the bit of drama with Ramona was excellent, and the steam was on point. I love the Stewart family and I really, really hope the author decides to write their books! There were a few inconsistencies, such as the author putting the name Hunter when it was clearly meant to be Tanner, but it wasn’t so frequent to be glaring and annoying to me.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to NetGalley, Katy Regnery, and the publisher for this book.
Great romance! Author ties together the atmosphere of Alaska, a family story, and a strong romance into one story. Well developed characters who naturally fell in love through the course of this book.
