Gone with the Witch is the best book in this series so far. Now that Josie and Sam are together I find that the story is even more enjoyable. The only downside is Josie still feels like she can't tell Sam about her witchy powers. Hopefully she'll be able to do that in a future book. The mysteries in this book were great. I liked that it tied back to a past mystery that had plagued a Wilfred citizen. I was still surprised when it came time to reveal what really happened. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this series to see of Josie finally tells Sam about her powers... and to see if her "Moriarity" is finally revealed.
While this one isn’t without its flaws, I did enjoy this book a lot more than the previous one.
The best part of it for me was the unique surprise of her sleuthing partner. Overall, the mystery itself had some great twists and turns.
My only negative seems to be that characters almost seem to be undeveloping themselves more as each book comes out.
I look forward to reading the next book, I just hope it’s as good as the first one because that one was almost perfection.
I love this series. I mean what's not to love about a librarian that's also a witch. Solving mysteries on the side.
I really enjoyed this cozy novel set in Oregon, over a winter storm this past week! Gone WIth the Witch had just a hint of magic that centered around the library where Josie the witch had help from the books to solve a murder. Witches, books coming to life in the library, along with a good mystery in my home state.,, what FUN!
This was book 5th in the Witch Way Librarian Series. I would love to go back and start them from the beginning!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Cozies for this advanced reader copy, in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are my own.
4 stars / This review will be posted on goodreads.com today.
A cozy mystery that combines a librarian, a cat, and magic. What could be better?
Number 5 in Angela M. Sanders Witch Way series is adorable. Of course there is a crime to solve, and Josie Way, Wilfred’s resident librarian, is up for the task. A pile of bones is found when an old outhouse is demolished. Unknown bones. Martin Garlington has been missing for years. His wife, Helen, left behind decides it might be Martin and implores the sheriff to test the DNA of the bones.
When it’s not Martin, Helen enlists Josie to try to help her solve the mystery of her missing husband, whom she swears she just saw on a game show. Josie gets involved, and with her magic, enlists the help of Sherlock Holmes, the book version. Sherlock and Josie are determined to solve the mystery of the bones and another unexpected death in Wilfred.
This was such a fun mystery novel. I never read the first four, and I still enjoyed it immensely. Of course now I’m feeling compelled to read one through four. Sanders writes with wit and humor and keeps us thoroughly entertained. Wilfred sounds like one of those charming little towns that’s been left behind. A place I could easily call home.
Book five is just as fresh and delicious a read as the previous ones . The Witch Way Librarian series features Josie, a witch in training. Josie's magic comes from books. They help her solve the mystery of who the skeleton found near the library. Filled with red herrings. Great end! Thanks #Netgalley and #Kensington for the eARC in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are mine.
I have been hooked on the ‘Witch Way Librarian Mysteries Series‘ since I read the first book, so have been hanging out for book 5, so I was very happy to get my hands on an advanced copy, and even more happy to find that it was just as good as it’s predecessors.
Josie is a witch in training and her magic is books. She gathers strength from them and they whisper to her, come to her when she calls, reveal clues, even attempt to save her when she is in danger. In this book Sherlock Holmes steps out of the pages to help Josie find out who the skeleton is that has been found near the library. And why a new body has turned up in the same spot.
There are a lot of twists and turns, red herrings and dead ends before a frightening climax when all the secrets and connections are revealed.
What a great series! They're such a fun cozy read and are consistently good. Sometimes as a series progresses all the books are the same as the last and get to be a chore to finish, not these ones. Can't wait for the next one!
Gone with the Witch by Angela M. Sanders is the 5th in the Witch Way Librarian Mysteries Series.
This series is quick, fun characters and refreshing stories especially after finishing something HEAVY.
I really like seeing the development of the town people and you start to get invested in them and see them do well. In this one our main townie featured is Helen Garlington. Poor Helen’s husband walked out about 50 years and Helen has been stuck in the 70’s ever since hoping he will return. Helen then gets her hopes up when she sees a man on a tv game show that looks just like her husband.
Wilfred would not be Wilfred if there was not a body found and not only do we have one but two bodies.
Josie’s boyfriend is Sam who works for the police and love Sam but goodness can be delusional. He goes to Josie when she asks question about the investigation. You are not trying to get involved are you? I’m serious about you stepping back. Then proceeds to tell her insider things about the investigation. Sir… we have been doing this for 4 prior murders. Why would you give her information thinking oh yeah she will not get interested.
Josie really annoyed me in this one. And things were just not believable. You have a book repeatedly pop up and you get annoyed knowing your magic draws books to you that you need. But of course if she opened it then this story would have been over quicker. Oh and told… don’t open the door to anyone. Then there’s a knock… hmmmm let me open this door to this stranger and since he asked me to not tell anyone I’ll keep his secret from even my boyfriend. Sam though gave her info and said don’t tell anyone and she proceeds to tell 3 people?!?! Same at the end was said , you had this man in your home and she says well he asked me not to tell. So who cares that the love of your life asked same thing of you. Sam deserves better.
This was definitely my least favorite on the series but I still recommend the series and look forward to the next one.
Huge thanks to NetGalley, for a eARC in exchange for my honest review
Unfortunately not what I expected. It wasn't the style I usually read, when I read about witches. But the cover should have told me. Maybe it's more for teenage girls, yes. But thank you anyway.
Thanks netgalley for a review copy.
This book was an amazing cozy mystery read for on a rainy day with a hot cup of tea.
Do you like cozy books, with a hint of mystery?
Look no further!
I don't want to spoil much but if you like what I mentioned above go read it.
Curl up in a blanket and enjoy a escape into this lovely book.
I enjoyed this book and this series. I love the setting and the people. I really like the kind of witch Josie is, it’s unique and she uses it well. The mystery of the bones in the outhouse is a bit frustrating as it does get addressed, it’s treated as a an afterthought until the end. I also noticed a tendency to discount Lindy as a suspect until the end, not sure if that’s the author’s way of hiding the killer. #GonewiththeWitch #NetGalley
I have read this series since the beginning, and I’ve enjoyed every one of the books. This latest in the series is just as enjoyable as the others, and I like where Josie is in her life. However, there are others in the town who need closure with their past and who but Josie can help. I enjoyed this mystery, but I will say it was a tiny bit convoluted at the end. Not bad, just…convoluted. You need to read this to find out what I mean. LOL! This is a wonderful addition to the series, but I am a little worried about what Josie is going to do with…well, no spoilers. Just read it and see. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
[Caveat that I haven't read that many cozy mysteries and it's possible my dislikes are expected/desired by readers]
Combining witches and librarians should be 100% up my alley, and i enjoyed reading this, but it didn't stand alone that well - i suspect this works better as part of the larger series. Strong implications were repeatedly dropped and never followed up with, and there were characters and scenarios spoken about that left me a bit confused as to why they were important. Despite this it was an enjoyable enough world to pass some time in.
I can’t say I loved this book, but I also didn’t hate it.
The Plot:
This is the fifth book in the Witch Way Librarian Mystery series. Josie is a librarian with magical powers. When bones are unearthed in an abandoned outhouse, Helen Garlington believes they may be her missing husband. When Helen finds out the DNA of the bones does not match her missing husband’s, she asks Josie to help her find him. Josie sets our, along with the help of her books, to find answers. Who do the mysterious bones belong to, where is Martin Garlington, and why did he leave town so suddenly?
The Good:
This is certainly a cozy read. The small town setting is eerie, yet charming. The characters are intriguing, and eccentric which really transports you into their world.
The Bad:
I didn’t find the mystery all that compelling and saw the end coming from a mile away. Josie isn’t the best sleuth, and her magic doesn’t really add to the mystery. It felt like she didn’t really solve anything, she just awkwardly ambled her way into the truth. The mystery felt like it meandered along. The characters’ actions were just there to further the plot, and required too much suspension of disbelief.
During the big reveal I found myself seriously rolling my eyes.
Overall, it wasn’t a waste of time, but not a good use of it either.
If you like cheesy and predictable “mysteries” this would also be a good read for you, but if you’re expecting fun witchy and supernatural things, I’d look elsewhere.
This has been an interesting series, and this is a great addition to the series, and the elements of witches and books are well-balanced. Looking forward to more in this one.
People go missing all the time but for those living in Wilfred, Oregon, their thoughts turn to the time, decades earlier, when local mortician Martin Garlington disappeared. So when bones are unearthed as an outbuilding is demolished his wife, Helen, is desperate to discover their identity.
Local librarian, and very secret novice witch, Josie Way, is keen to help Helen when, soon after the macabre discovery, she is certain she sees her husband alive and well on a TV quiz show. Then a second body is discovered, again with doubts over their identity, and Josie knows her boyfriend and local sheriff, Sam, will work hard to solve the case but could surely use her help. When her book fuelled powers conjure up the image of Sherlock Holmes, it would be churlish for her to refuse his assistance! As the unlikely pair work together to discover what links the two deaths, Josie is also being followed around by a large number of crows and that can't be a good thing!
I have been lucky to read some great cosy crime novels recently and book five in this great series is no exception. It ticked so many boxes for me not least being that until the big reveal there were still three or four suspects who could have absolutely been the killer! Josie and Sam are great together and the addition of Mr Holmes worked really well. At the same time all the other problems happening in her life, of which there are many, and the mysterious behaviour of the crows, added great background to the storyline and promise big things for book six.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Kensington Books, but the opinions expressed are my own. I thoroughly enjoyed this and it was a definite 5 star read throughout.
A new one in the series, and I loved it. I wasn't too sure if I would enjoy Josie as a witch librarian, but now I eagerly await for the next one in the series. The twists and turn as this story developed had me quickly turning the pages just to see what happens.
I didn't know when I requested this book that it was number 5 in the series, but I had no trouble at all jumping right in and feeling like it was the first book of the series to me. I will definitely be reading more of this series!
I loved this installment in this mystery interconnected standalone series. It was deliciously cozy, and compulsively readable. Felt like a warm hug on a rainy day!
