Adorable! Our Woolly Bear tells an adorable tail of a Woolly Bear caterpillar and the friends that are made along the way. An upbeat story that shows the whimsy of the simple magic that can be found in a garden.
This one is sort of a meandering tale of the change of seasons and life in a particular place. It's not really about anything in particular.
Our Wooly Bear has beautiful illustrations that add a sense of calm and whimsy to the story. Overall I think this is a sweet book perfect for kids who love nature or are curious about the life cycles of insects.
Our Woolly Bear
by Katie Arthur
A look at nature, acceptance of the length of the process transformation of moths and butterflies. Although it doesn't give a true end it shows the interest of children fleeting in nature personifying the caterpillar. The art work is remarkable. With hints of collages and Russian folk lore. It's an interest book with ecology lessons. Botany courses and curiosity.
I love the illustrations in this cozy little read, about two children finding a caterpillar and learning all about it's life cycle. I love how learning about the caterpillar becomes a family activity and the simplicity of this book.
'Our Woolly Bear' by Katie Arthur is the story of a caterpillar becoming a moth and the family who watches her transformation. The illustrations are lovely and muted. The story is simple.
A sweet tale of a family finding and learning about a caterpillar type complete with an unexpected ending. Very understated illustrations with a limited color palette.
Our Woolly Bear shows a family tuning in to the life cycle of a caterpillar, specifically the woolly bear caterpillar which will become a tiger moth. The color palette was one of my favorite things about the book - lots of warm greens, browns and oranges. Also the gentle mood of the family slowing down to look closely at nature together.
This sweet little story is such a wonderful telling of growth and nature. I'm so excited for this educational book to be shared.
Two girls learn about nature from their new pal, a woolly bear caterpillar they find in the woods. I really liked the family depicted in this book: their shared curiosity, activities, and time spent together NOT staring at screens. The author's illustrations were unusual, and rather dark for a children's book.
I suspect this is one that may appeal more to grownups than kids, but there's nothing really wrong with that. Hopefully the story will inspire the adults to take their children outdoors to explore nature together.
I'm looking forward to many more books by this author.
Two sisters find a fuzzy little caterpillar which soon becomes part of the family as they learn more about it. For anyone who has every found one of these delightful little caterpillars, this will recall the joy of having one around until it leaves for the winter.
Our Woolly Bear is a gentle story about two children that discover a woolly bear caterpillar in their yard. The color scheme created a wonderful aesthetic throughout the book and the illustrations were so whimsical. I very much enjoyed the tone they added to the story. As far as the story itself, it wasn't overly complicated, but did provide some facts about woolly bears and the metamorphosis they experience. I love the subtle transition of caterpillar to moth as well. This is a book that I would 100% recommend to parents/caregivers that are very nature-minded!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
A family finds a woolly bear caterpillar and they bring it into their home and watch it every day. This book has beautiful artwork - a lovely palate of colors and interesting illustrations. It has a very Wes Anderson/Waldorf School vibe throughout the book. I found it pretty but I did not find it very compelling.
A really nice story for kids, about a family that finds a woolly caterpillar. The illustrations/artwork is done in Fall colors, & the drawings are quite detailed! The pictures are fun to look at & see/find things..... It's a nice, fun book.....& I learned something about woolly caterpillars too! Yeah, I really enjoyed this book, & think it'd be a great book to share with kids!
I received an e-ARC of the book from publisher Owlkids Books via NetGalley in return for reading it & offering my own fair/honest review.

Softly focused illustrations and gentle words capture this adventure. The two kids find a caterpillar called a Woolly Bear and bring it home to nurture. They research the care and make sure it has all it needs to survive and thrive. Readers see how they bring it with them and watch it explore. Readers also get to decide if it is the same caterpillar they find in all sorts of nearby places. One day, Woolly Bear disappears. They are sad but hope it has found a new adventure. I appreciate the ending as readers have to study the picture to see where the caterpillar went.
Sweet story about a family growing together.
Beautiful illustrations accompany the story of a wooly bear caterpillar and the girls who find him. The story follows sisters who find a caterpillar and wonder what it will be. Their dad helps them find out the type of caterpillar they have found. And just like that the wooly bear becomes a part of their family.
This was such a cute and informative little book. I know where I live we have many woolly bears, but I didn't know much about them till now.
Wooly bears are a seasonal favorite insect and this book delivers the perfect amount of warmth, whimsy, and facts to create a beautiful story. The illustrations are richly colored so that you feel the comfort of the quilt on the bed or the brisk breeze in the garden. The narrator welcomes the wooly bear just as it is (quiet and shy?) which welcomes the reader to be the same.
Owlkids Books really set the bar high!
So cute! This was a lovely book that followed two sisters as they met and befriended a woolly bear caterpillar. Their home, town, and family seemed so nice and welcoming. This could be a good book for lessons about seasons, caterpillars, metamorphoses, etc.
