Single Mom Samantha is a nurse and accepted a new position; she is looking for a fresh start - for her and her teenage daughter Lily.
Story goes back and forth between Samantha in the present, and witches in the past.
One of the witches had a daughter, who was murdered by the grandfather of the owner of Hallow Croft. The curse was that the first born female of this grandfather would die on her sixteenth birthday.
I didn’t love this story and have to admit a bit disappointed as I really am okay with witch stories – perhaps just my mood and not the story at all!
But I still love the back of the book!
Since this is not my first Joffe Books
I still enjoyed the '“The Joffe Books Story”
BTW: I do remember Joffe is pronounced like coffee or toffee!
Which brings me to the.

Publishing Release Date scheduled for October 31, 2023.
I wasn’t too sure if I would enjoy this after reading the reviews about witch craft but I was pleasantly surprised it was a real page turner. It had me gripped through-out highly recommended. I really enjoyed the writing style going from past to present definitely helped build the suspense within. Thanks to netgallery and the publisher for my advanced copy.
I so wanted to love this book because the premise sounds good but the witchcraft and curses lost me early on and I ended up not finishing this book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Home by Sally-Anne Martyn was a mystery thriller involving witchcraft, curses, and other strange things. I don't know why but I could not get into this book at all. The first chapter started well, but after that things went flat for me. I believe it's just my taste. I would say for me this book was way too slow and some action started just around the last 20%. I believe it's just my taste.
What was positive - I found out about Nine Ladies Stone Circle and when I googled I realized it's just a 30-minute drive from my house so I had a fantastic day out with my family. I would say this was so good because at the end of the book, there are some activities that are happening in Nine Ladies Stone Circle and it was amazing as I could picture in my mind and it felt so real!
This book is written in two separate timelines and nowadays one was working well for me but 1975 not so much.
Somehow I know the main twist but there were some unexpected twists as well so it's definitely recommended as good thrilled especially if you like witchcraft things.
Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy!
Set against the backdrop of a quaint village replete with whispers of witchcraft 🧙♀️, this captivating novel interweaves the struggles of a single mother and her teen daughter with the allure of magic and superstition. Seamlessly transitioning between 1975 and the present day in alternating chapters, it keeps readers eagerly flipping pages. Through the diverse perspectives of its characters, the narrative unveils unexpected twists that are sure to astonish. I was on the brink of awarding it a full five stars! ✨ My gratitude goes to NetGalley and Joffe Books for providing this engrossing advance reader copy 📖🧙.
I honestly wasn’t keen on the witchcraft elements of this book. It was enjoyable despite this and I would be happy to recommend it to others.
Witches, witchcraft, small village gossip, single mother and teen daughter struggles/hardships. This books has it all! It’s definitely a page turner and hard to put down. I really enjoyed the two separate timelines, one chapter would take you back to 1975 the next would be present day. A few different point of views from characters as well. There are a few jaw dropping twists and turn of events that made the story very exciting. I almost gave this read 5 stars! Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for this ARC.
It took me a while to get into the storyline and it wasn't an edge of seater for me personally.
Thank you to Netgalley and Joffe Publishers for this ARC but I don't think I will recommend unfortunately.
This is a twisted tale of witchcraft that kept me guessing right to the very end. I’m not usually a fan of witchiness or downright creepiness, but The Home was paced just right with a perfect setting. I couldn’t put this down - mostly so I could try and get the plot out of my head to get a good night’s sleep…
3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I read her first book, The Clinic, and absolutely loved it. This one was a mixed bag for me.
Samantha is a nurse with a teenage daughter, Lily, who moves back to her home town to take a job in Hallow Croft. It's a very small town out in the moors. There are man rumors about Hallow Croft and the area, such as witchcraft, curses, and strange happenings. The book switches from present to past with Samantha being in the present, and a coven of witches being in the past. One of the witches had a daughter, Emily, who was suppoedly murdered by the grandfather of the owner of Hallow Croft. The curse was that the first born female of this grandfather would die on her sixteenth birthday.
The book was well written, but in heavy British English. They even included a dictionary if one needed it. It flowed nicely and the characters were all interesting. Id definitely read another book by this author. I recommend the book but was a bit disappointed after reading the first one and comparing it to this one. I believe it's just my taste. I'm not a big fan of witchcraft books. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC. It is greatly appreciated.
After another disastrous relationship, single-mum Samantha just wants a fresh start - for her and her teenage daughter and best friend, Lily.
A very interesting mystery/thriller. Well done.
I really wanted to finish this book, as other reviews were really good. I just couldn't get passed the first few chapters. I so seem to be the anomaly because as mentioned many others have enjoyed this book
Thank you NetGallery and Joffe Books for this ARC, great story about a coven of witches. Told thru two timelines of 1975 and today, weaving the story together. In 1975 Annie’s daughter was killed by the towns most influential family’s son. Being part of a coven she puts a curse on the future of the killers family. In the present Samantha returns to her childhood home to work as a matron in the local nursing home on the property where the 1975 murder took place. With strange happenings with a few of the patients and employees and strange texts to leave; Samantha’s daughter seems to be in the middle of all the strangeness, This well written story takes you on a whirlwind of a story that keeps you on your toes.
After another disastrous relationship, single-mum Samantha just wants a fresh start — for her and her teenage daughter and best friend, Lily.
Samantha accepts a post as matron in an exclusive residential home on the outskirts of a quiet village in the Peak District.
But nothing is as it seems at the Hallow Croft residential home...
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I absolutely loved it. It was fast paced, some great characters and I enjoyed the flashback chapters. The mother daughter dynamic was done well and I really enjoyed the Coven aspect. I thought it was just the right amount of supernatural without being unbelievable.
I loved the build up to the ending, and I thought the book was wrapped up well - there were a few twists along the way but nothing too dramatic. I found this a super enjoyable, exciting read and would recommend to anyone who loves witches, curses and mysteries.
A great read for the Halloween season -
This book features a mother and daughter moving to an area where a job as matron at a home is the fresh start they have looking for. It is not to be as a curse from many years ago threatens their new lives.
A spooky read.
A good read overall but as others have said did not enjoy the coven bits of the book, was a well written book that kept me reading as wanted to see the outcome
Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for the eARC.
This book features a mother and teenage daughter moving to the mother's erstwhile area, where a job as matron awaits her. She's hoping they can start a new, fresh life, but unfortunately it's not to be. A curse from many years ago threatens their new lives.
I liked the story, but the coven bits not so much. However, that's a minor complaint, I liked the book.overall, it was a fun read.
Parts of the book i really enjoyed but the coven parts not so much. The mother and daughter relationship was interesting but the cliff hanger of that was a bit predictable. Overall an easy read if a little flimsy in places. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
This book had me gripped right away and I didn't want to put it down, will definitely read more by this author.
