She’s Lady Evelyn Osbourne - only child of a scandalous earl, living the quiet life trying to avoid her father’s reputation, with the voice of an angel and a cousin who’s more like a brother, pushing her towards happiness and accepting the offer of performing at Vauxhall. She’s afraid of what it might do to her reputation, then again, it would an opportunity to show the world she’s more than her father’s daughter.
He’s Malcolm Walker - a carpenter - a master at his craft - currently working at Vauxhall, lead rower in the boating competition, never long in one place, does charity work wherever and whenever he can, always busy staying out of trouble and trying to outrun his past. He’s a kind and warm man, always trying to do the right thing and putting everyone’s happiness before his own because he believes he deserves none.
They meet when she’s climbed onto the stage he’s building for her at Vauxhall, and he scolds her for being where she shouldn’t be. It’s love at first sight! But, their class difference stands between them. They’re both very aware of it, but their mutual attraction is irresistible.
The beginning of the book is a little chaotic, but then it moves into a nice and captivating flow. Their relationship grows steadily with some sweet seduction, a bit of sizzling steam and the expected setbacks along the way. No ton glamour and glitz, but all the razzle dazzle Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens has to offer! A very entertaining read!
Bonus points for Dante the mysterious and very gifted fortune teller, and the intriguing side romance with Evelyn’s cousin Graham and his Avery!
A delicious story about a woman of quality stepping outside her comfort zone and finding love in the arms of a carpenter.oarsman in the rarefied atmosphere of Vauxhall Gardens after the disastrous fire. While there were a couple of unnecessary didos along the way, they did not interrupt the flow of the story. Instead, the unlikely overlap of classes in that environment leads to more than one inappropriate romance having a happy ending.
Evelyn is an earl's daughter who takes a chance to become what she wants to be. Blessed with a beautiful voice and looks, she performs at Vauxhall Gardens and falls for Malcom, a carpenter who builds stages and sets for the performers. For him, he is smitten at first sight but he doesn't push himself on her, he patiently waits. But can two people from different classes and different walks of life be together? The answer may be in the cards, or it may have been in their hearts all along.
This was one story where you definitely finish it feeling satisfied. I really loved this tender story. It doesn't rush along even though it does qualify to be insta-love. The story, characters, and their feelings get plenty of development. There is plenty of angst, mystery, and sweet romance. Dante the fortune teller adds a great air of mystery to the story, her cousin Graham is always there for her but he's got his own demons to deal with. Malcom and Eve were just so sweet together and had much to consider before following their hearts.
Beautifully written, the author draws you right in to the scenes with such vivid prose. Highly recommend this book.
You rarely read books where there is a bona fide fortune teller. I wasn’t sure about it at first but I did like Dante. Okay, for the story, I find that class difference can be a yay or a no go and in this one it was a yay. Malcoln was such an interesting character. I felt the pull between the two characters and find this to be a nice story.
A lovely and entertaining romance, the story is well paced and filled with emotion and hope for the future. Malcolm and Evelyn are running from themselves and their futures, from different classes they form a bond and a love that will surpass it all. Another engaging romance in this Vauxhall series brings an atmosphere of entertainment and love.
Different backgrounds are often considered to be a show stopped for a HEA. The truth is that it takes work and compromise to make it work well. Malcolm and Eve had to find that out in this lovely story. Surrounded by facts and images of Vauxhall, the two uncommon people develop into a relationship that is so out of the box, that maybe it should end. Well crafted and enjoyable throughout.
how I loved this beautiful book! And in particular I loved the aura of mystery given by the presence of the fortune teller. Malcolm and Evelyn are two gorgeous characters and I loved them, even if I would have gladly bashed Malcolm in the head with something heavy because he wasn’t brave enough and he didn’t believe that Evelyn was ready to defy Society to be with him. The angst was all his own making really. I loved Evelyn for her courage to take matters in her own hands and live the life she wanted. And I loved the side characters, especially the cousin and the fortune teller. I really hope that Dante will have his own story!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Outliers....
I liked that this was about historical outliers. Evelyn "Eve" has family drama. Slight of hand, tarot cards, now things are being turned on its head.
Malcolm is running from his past, always moving on.
They definitely have some spice. No lords or ladies.
She has to live under the shadow of her father’s scandals while he lives with the burden of his guilt. Together the6 need to find the courage to forge their own future. There are many wonderful characters in this story, including the mysterious Dante and the supportive and endearing cousin Graham. A very lovely read!
I received an ARC from Netgalley and leaving my review voluntarily.
Marginalized by fashionable society because of her father's scandalous behavior, Evelyn accepts an offer to sing at Vauxhall Gardens. There, she meets carpenter Malcolm, whose seasonal job suits his nomadic lifestyle. Can Eve convince him they belong together, despite their different backgrounds?
This insta-love story has a high degree of sensual tension. Despite outer appearances, Eve and Malcolm turned out to be perfect for each other.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
I usually love Ms. Bryant's books, but this one just didn't keep my attention. I got to the 50% mark and found I didn't really care to find out what happens with Malcolm and Eve. Sometimes books don't resonate with me and unfortunately, this one wasn't intriguing enough for me.
When Evelyn (Eve) Osborne is invited to perform at the Vauxhall Gardens, she doesn’t know that her life will be forever altered. There she meets Malcolm Walker, a carpenter of the sets at the gardens. When romance follows, neither of them are certain of their future together.
A sweet romance between two people from different social standings. Whilst I enjoyed their romance, there were aspects that could have been further explored. I would have liked to have seen more of Dante as I thought he provided an interesting aspect. Overall, it was nice to see an unlikely romance come to be.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Midnight Love Song by Anabelle Bryant is such a wonderful read.
This book have a high sexual tension, explicit hot spicy scenes, forbidden love, dilemma, heart breaking moments and tears. Starting from the high sexual tension to the hidden love affair to the status differences dilemma to the big argument. I cried for Evelyn. Thankfully, the ending are so beautiful and I am happy for Malcolm and Eve.
I'll definitely be waiting for more books from Anabelle Bryant and I'm looking forward to read the next story.
Evelyn decides to step outside of her shell and sing at Vauxhall Gardens. She no longer cares what society thinks of her and her notorious father. When carpenter Malcolm sees and hears her sing, he is immediately attracted to Evelyn. Never staying long in one place, Malcolm is afraid to make any commitment to anyone. Can they overcome their class difference to find happiness? I received an ARC from NetGalley and Oliver Heber Books for my honest review.
To say I “love” this Vauxhall Voices series seems inadequate. Anabelle Bryant could write a dozen books in this series and it wouldn’t be enough. I love discovering more about Vauxhall Gardens in each book. It’s such an original and creative backdrop.
I adored Evelyn and Malcolm’s story and was hooked on their journey to love from the moment I read the prologue. I thoroughly enjoyed watching their feelings for one another develop. Both were running from something and seemed to have lost their way in life. Together they learned to replace old memories with new experiences and run toward a future together.
Anabelle Bryant writes such authentic characters and Evelyn and Malcolm stole my heart from the beginning. Malcolm was such a good man. Very candid and forthcoming. While Evelyn shied away from society to avoid rumors about her father, she was no shy miss. I loved that she stood up to her father and to those who would disparage her. While neither was looking for love, you could practically feel the gravitational pull drawing Evelyn and Malcolm together. The chemistry was palpable. The heat between them lights up the pages. As in all Anabelle Bryant books, the secondary characters add much to the story. I loved Evelyn’s cousin Graham and the bond they shared. I’m dying for a story about Dante the fortune teller.
If you’ve been following this Vauxhall Voices series, you’ll be thrilled with this newest addition. If you are new to the series, have no fear. It can easily be read as a stand alone. Anabelle Bryant is my go to author when I want to be swept away by a great love story.
While I loved the overall story, I had too many questions about other things being thrown in. The Lady and the carpenter do get their HEA and it’s a very nice one. I found myself wondering why Dante kept popping up as everyone seemed to run away from him and never let him finish his fortune telling. Maybe this will be made clear in following books. Since it is part of a series, it is worth the read but I enjoyed the previous two books more.
This was a sweet read. I felt that the relationship complexities of Evelyn and Malcolm were overcomplicated and made out worse than what it was. The HEA made up for that; I would recommend this w=book if you are looking for a fun and easy read.
I enjoyed this book it is enjoyable and fun to read. The character development was good and they were complex and multi-dimensional which I really liked. If you like steamy reads this is a must read for sure.
