Very specific, if you're not a complete obsessive with cinema, you'll find this remarkably difficult.
Not much variation in types of puzzle either, so it sort of sucks the joy out of it if you're not good at that kind of puzzle etc.
My thanks to NetGalley and Ivy Press Publishers for a copy of “ The Movie Puzzle Book “
I was pleasantly surprised when I opened this book , as I was just expecting a movie quiz book, and this was so much more !
It was informative and entertaining and had a good range of film quiz questions..
I think the book would make a perfect present for anyone who loves cinema
I thought this was going to be a movie trivia quiz book, but was pleasantly surprised to find it is so much more. There are lots of very interesting and unique puzzles along with movie trivia. I'm very impressed with the thought that has gone into creating the puzzles.
Ian Haydn Smith knows all about movies. Dr. Gareth Moore knows all about puzzles. Together, they have pooled their resources to create this, The Movie Puzzle Book.
The formula works well. The puzzles are generally neither too easy or too hard and cover a wide range of films, famous and obscure, old and new and from all all around the world. There's also a good variety of straightforward questions e.g. Identify the actor/director from the picture shown, a wordsearch containing the names of the stars from The Godfather to some very ingenious puzzles such as a particularly complex one inspired by Kubrick's use of The Blue Danube.
Generally, this is not for children. It's fairly difficult. But with some useful insights into the history of cinema thrown in, this would make an ideal Christmas present for the discerning film buff.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book!
If you're looking for a book that combines movie tidbits/history and puzzles, this is the book for you. Lots of different topics covered and genres. There was a good range of puzzles- ranging from easy trivia to harder word scrambles. Some will really challenge you.
This book was far more than I expected, a combination of interesting facts and history relating to the film industry, alongside a wide range of puzzles. It's not just the usual quiz book of film trivia, but also contains a huge variety of all sorts of puzzles, including anagrams, number puzzles, wordsearches and cinema history.
Divided into sections that cover the whole process of making a film all the way from initial pitch to advertising, it has a really interesting selection of people and films, including world cinema, and some genuinely challenging puzzles.
it's produced to a really high quality and would make a fantastic Christmas gift for cinema fans who enjoy a proper test of their knowledge.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy in return for an honest review.
