I want to preface this review by saying that I definitely should have done more research into this book before requesting it for review. Had I looked more deeply into the tropes or had read one of the author's other books, I would have realized that this author's books don't click with me and wouldn't have picked it up. Even though the book has been out for a bit, I still wanted to share my opinions on what I read.

This is a more erotica-leaning romance, which I don't tend to enjoy a lot of the time. There is such a strong focus on sex right from the beginning, to the point that it felt like the main driver of this book rather than the relationship or the plot. I found myself getting bored of the back-to-back scenes and just wanted to get into the characters getting to know each other on a more emotional level. Even though both characters have difficult backstories and complex histories, I often felt like they were one-dimensional and flat. Even though I just finished the book, I feel like I wouldn't be able to tell someone who these characters are as people.

Another thing that I didn't love was the overwhelming amount of recapping done surrounding the book's takeaways, especially at the end of the book. There are frequently one to two sentences scattered throughout the novel that are there to remind the reader of the characters' supposed growth. These obvious moments are especially emphasized at the end of the novel, which I have noticed is a pattern found in the entire Brutal Birthright series by this author. I felt like I was being told what to think about the characters, rather than having the chance to make up my own mind about them.

One thing I did like was that kinks and exploring pleasure were not shamed or looked down upon. It was refreshing to see characters that were unapologetic about what they liked and willing to explore their sexual preferences. I don't see that as much as I'd like in the genre, so I appreciated this aspect of the book.

Again, this was not for me, and I should have done a bit more research before requesting a copy. Just because I didn't enjoy this book doesn't mean you might not like it! Just make sure to go into it knowing what you're picking up.

Oh my goodness, *Minx* by Sophie Lark is a whirlwind of a read! Imagine being thrust into a world where wealth, power, and seduction are the currency, and everyone is playing for keeps. At the center of this tale is Ramses Howell, a self-made billionaire whose life revolves around control. But when he meets Blake Abbot, a mysterious and captivating escort, everything he thought he knew about desire is turned on its head.

From the first page, I was hooked by the electric chemistry between Ramses and Blake. Ramses is used to being in control, but Blake oh, Blake is a puzzle he can't resist. She’s not just a pretty face; she’s a woman with deep secrets that even Ramses, with all his resources, can’t easily uncover. The tension between them is palpable, and I eagerly flipped pages to see who would crack first!

Blake is a queen masterful at self-preservation, she navigates Ramses’s dangerous allure while keeping her own cards close to her chest. The dynamic between these two is pure fire. The push and pull, the cat-and-mouse game—it’s all thrilling!

As fantasy and reality blur, the stakes rise, and the emotional intensity skyrockets. Ramses and Blake’s relationship becomes a battle of wills, a dance on the edge of a knife. The suspense is killer, and I was on the edge of my seat until the last page.

Sophie Lark’s writing is captivating, pulling you into a luxurious yet perilous world where every word crackles with tension. The dialogue is sharp, witty, and dripping with subtext. *Minx* is a brilliant exploration of ambition, desire, and the thin line between love and obsession. If you’re looking for a romance that will make your heart race, this is it. Sophie Lark has crafted a story that is equal parts seductive and thought-provoking—Blake and Ramses’s journey is one you won’t forget anytime soon. Trust me, you do not want to miss this one!

Ramses Howell is a self-made billionaire who thrives on winning and achieving his goals. He is obsessed with performance and has always been able to get what he wants. She quickly becomes his top priority when he sets his sights on Blake Abbot, a brilliant and alluring escort. However, Ramses senses that Blake is hiding something significant, and he becomes determined to uncover her secrets.

Blake Abbot is a woman who has meticulously guarded her secrets for years. She is aware of Ramses Howell's power and how dangerous he can be. Despite this, she is drawn to the challenge Ramses presents. When Ramses proposes a game designed specifically for her, Blake can't resist playing, especially since he possesses something she wants. She tries to set boundaries and establish rules for their game but soon finds herself breaking her own rules as the lines between fantasy and reality blur.

As their relationship deepens, both Ramses and Blake cross boundaries they swore they never would. Their arrangement becomes more intense and dangerous, leading them to question everything they thought they wanted. The stakes are high, and their future is uncertain as they teeter on the brink of either a passionate union or destruction.

Tropes:
- Power Dynamics
- Secrets and Mysteries
- Forbidden Romance
- Psychological Game

It is a gripping, erotically charged romance that is intense and thought-provoking, offering readers a deep dive into the complexities of power and desire. Ramses and Blake are well-developed characters with intricate backstories and motivations, making their interactions both fascinating and explosive.

The story is fast-paced, with plenty of twists and turns that keep the reader engaged. Lark's writing is sharp and evocative, perfectly capturing the tension and chemistry between the two protagonists. The psychological aspect of the "game" adds an extra layer of intrigue, making the novel more than just a typical romance.

Ugh. Sophie Lark does it again… THIS. BOOK. OMG.

I just can’t get over Sophie Lark’s writing. Everything she writes has such a unique twist and she knows how to push boundaries in her books. But she nails it every. Single. Time. The chemistry between the main characters was pure perfection. It was palpable and Sophie makes you feel it through the pages.

It was unique, steamy, quick, and insanely fun. It solidifies by love for Sophie Lark’s books and their deserved place on my shelves.

Sophie Lark strikes again! All of her books are just so great, once I start them, I cannot put them down. These 300 pages felt like nothing. Can't wait for the re-release of the Kingmaker-Series, because I am absolutely gonna binge-read them!

“Power is doing whatever you want and nobody dares tell you no. Pleasure is looking a powerful man in the face and telling him to fuck off.”

So, I read a lot of Sophie Lark’s books and I really loved them so I was excited to read this one too.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t that good for me. I don’t know if it was because of my high expectations or not.

“You’re a hunter. Like me.”

The scenes were like 80% spicy scenes and 20% of little parts of their storyline. I know that the spice was an important element in their relationship but I was waiting for more story in there.

“I wasn’t flaunting you. I was proud of you.”

Well, it had some funny scenes so it wasn’t that bad, and it’s easy to read because I love her writing so much. But in comparison with her other books, it’s not what I was expecting.

Either way, you should give an opportunity if you want something easy and fast to read.

And thank you Netgalley, Sophie Lark and the editors for the opportunity!

Sophie Lark's *Minx* takes readers on a tantalizing journey through the high-stakes world of wealth, desire, and deception, where every character is a master of their own game and the stakes are nothing less than their very identities. At the center of this gripping narrative is Ramses Howell, a self-made billionaire whose life is defined by his relentless pursuit of success. Lark crafts Ramses as a complex character, showcasing not just his obsession with performance but also his insatiable curiosity, particularly when it comes to uncovering the secrets of Blake Abbot—an enigmatic escort whose allure and intelligence captivate him from their first encounter. From the outset, Ramses’s quest to unravel Blake’s hidden truths serves as the catalyst for the story. He is accustomed to having control and achieving his desires, but Blake presents a unique challenge. Lark expertly builds tension as Ramses, with his sharp analytical mind, recognizes that Blake is not merely a pretty face; she is a woman shrouded in mystery. The push and pull between the two characters creates a compelling dynamic, making it easy for readers to become invested in their conflicting motivations and desires. On the other side of this complex relationship is Blake, a character who has mastered the art of self-preservation. She is acutely aware of Ramses’s reputation and the danger that comes with it, yet she finds herself irresistibly drawn to him. Lark delves deep into Blake’s psyche, exploring her past and the extreme lengths she has taken to guard her secrets. This duality of danger and desire is palpable throughout the book, with Lark weaving a rich tapestry of internal and external conflict as Blake navigates her boundaries and the game Ramses has created just for her. As the boundaries blur between fantasy and reality, readers are left questioning not just the motivations of each character, but also the very nature of their relationship. The game that Ramses proposes becomes a metaphor for their interactions, and as the rules evolve, so too does their connection. Lark skillfully portrays the characters' struggles with their own vulnerabilities, as both Blake and Ramses begin to question their initial intentions. The author invites readers into a world where love, power, and ambition collide, forcing both characters to confront their deepest fears and desires. As they push each other to their limits, the question remains: will they emerge stronger together, or will their pursuit of the other’s secrets ultimately lead to their downfall? Lark’s writing is both engaging and evocative, pulling readers into a world that feels both luxurious and perilous. The chemistry between Blake and Ramses is electric, and their dialogue crackles with tension and wit, drawing readers deeper into their intricate relationship. Each twist and turn keeps readers on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating what secrets will be revealed and what lines will be crossed next. In conclusion, *Minx* is a captivating exploration of ambition, desire, and the consequences of truth. Sophie Lark masterfully crafts a narrative that is as thrilling as it is thought-provoking, leaving readers to ponder the complexities of human relationships and the masks we wear. Blake and Ramses’s journey is one of self-discovery and transformation, making *Minx* a compelling read that lingers long after the final page is turned. Whether you're a fan of romance or psychological drama, this book offers a rich, multi-layered experience that is not to be missed.

I love Sophie Larks books so much so I went into this with high expectations and was sadly disappointed, I felt there wasn’t much of a story/storyline, it was more like I was reading p*rn than anything and as much as I love dark romance I just didn’t enjoy this

Ah Sophie, you've done it again! Ramses and Blake are exactly what you need in a romance novel. They're fun, sexy, spicy, and sweet. I like that while they're competitive, they're supportive in the same vein. Two thumbs up that it's a stand alone as well!

I love you Sophie Lark but this was just porn with vibes, just wasn't it for me. There felt like no story just porn and I wasn't here for that.

"Minx" by Sophie Lark is a kink-filled contemporary romance that explores the relationship between an escort and her very rich, powerful client. It's not my typical book choice, but I found myself enjoying it nonetheless.

The book is easy to read, with suggested music added throughout, adding a unique and engaging touch to the experience. However, be warned—"Minx" is sexually graphic and pushes boundaries, making it a bold choice for readers who are comfortable with explicit content.

While some of the phrasing and wording seemed off to me, and there were a few cringy moments, the overall story kept me entertained. This one isn’t for everyone, but if you are looking for an easy, fun romance read that leans heavily into kink or smut, you might enjoy "Minx".

3.5/5 ⭐ but I still feel a bit conflicted...

2/5⭐ for the spice in this book, definitely not for everyone.
4/5⭐ for the banter, character development, and emotional depth that I wasn't expecting.

I went into this book blind and I'm glad I did. There's NO WAY I would have read it if I knew what it included. After the initial shock, I was impressed that Sophie Lark could make something so taboo... make sense for these characters?

Spice level is HIGH and not at all conventional. I'm not surprised at all that the first spicy scenes were enough to make many people DNF this book. However, if you can get past that, I am happy to report that these characters are actually very likeable and the story did drag me in. Did I cringe, hide my face from my kindle, and get extreme second-hand embarrassment? Yeah... but somehow I still ended up liking this book. So, kudos to Sophie Lark. Other books I've read that are a similar level of spiciness have little to no story or characters that are so stupid, like Priest. This was so much better and actually had some depth to it.

What to Expect:
✨ Billionaire romance
✨ Escort & client
✨ Kinky / Pet play
✨ BDSM
✨ Porn with plot

Minx by Sophie Lark is a captivating dark contemporary romance that defies expectations and delivers a blend of steamy passion and emotional depth. Lark's ability to craft a story that surprises and engages the reader is truly commendable. The characters, especially Ramses Howell and Blake Abbot, are portrayed with complexity and evolve through a game that blurs fantasy and reality.

The narrative unfolds with a self-made man, Ramses, and the intriguing Blake, whose dynamic and the game they play lead them to cross boundaries they never imagined. Lark's writing style keeps the reader hooked, exploring themes of desire, control, and self-discovery in a way that is both intense and thought-provoking.

Overall, Minx stands out as a standout romance of the year, offering a quick, fast-paced read filled with steamy scenes and a storyline that challenges conventional romance tropes. For readers seeking a romance novel that combines sensuality with emotional vulnerability, Minx is a compelling choice that leaves a lasting impression.

4 stars

Minx, is a great book to read if you're a fan of the movie Pretty Women. This is a contemporary romance, dual perspective, with a Dom/sub play. It was a very entertaining read. I love how Blake and Ramses are very much on the same playing field both brilliant, sexy, independent with a great feel for finance and business and they help each other. It was a fast-paced story, very low on suspense and drama, but about 4 on the spice scale for me, it was hot! This book focuses more on relationship development and sharing secrets with each other. I did think that there was going to be more plot around her ex-boyfriend, but it kind of faded out and was not as suspenseful as it was led to believe. I love Sophie Larks writing; she does a great job and I feel like I just fly through these pages. There are a number of art prints included and I love the added visual and so pretty. Please check trigger warnings before reading there are several. This is a great book, emotional at times, and an amazing connection with the main characters. Definitely check it out.
I received an ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.
