Such a great book for the little bookworms in your life! The illustrations are adorable, the wording is easy to understand for little ones, and the content is relevant. I would highly recommend!
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I love all the Lola picture books and especially like this one about bees. Lola is going to meet her mom's friend, who is a beekeeper, and she is quite excited. Lovely illustrations go with this book.
Thank you, Netgalley, for this e-ARC!
Anna McQuinn's Lola books are consistently age-appropriate and enjoyable. Lola is learning about bees, so she and her mom visit Zora, mom's friend. The city setting is unique compared to other picture books about pollinators and gardening. There are illustrations and descriptions of bee safety and the importance of bees, which are done in an approachable way. For example, when describing the queen bee, "she makes special smells that tell the bees what to do and keep them happy". An excellent addition to early literacy collections or ages 2-6.
I haven't read very many Lola books, although I know that Lola and Leo have a strong fan base. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and engaging. My 3-year-old child was drawn to the illustrations of bee boxes, the flowers, and Lola's family and friends. McQuinn does a great job of explaining how beekeeping works at a very elementary level. This would be a great book to work into a lesson on pollination, the life cycle of bees, or prior to a trip to a beekeeper. I'm not sure that the topic would resonate without further lessons or prior interest. As it is, I would recommend this book to fans of the series or readers looking for an introduction to beekeeping, but not otherwise.
Lola Meets the Bees is a cute children's book about a little girl visiting her mother's friend, Zora, who is a beekeeper. Lola learns a lot about bees, how they work and live.
It is very cute and though very short, it's also really interesting and I think it gets quite a lot of information!
The illustrations are adorable too and will definitely make the young readers enjoy this book even more!
another great book from Anna McQuinn. I adore the Leo and Lola stories, and this this is a perfect addition. The simple yet informative pictures and text will help kiddos understands bee, and their importance.

Lola Meets the Bees is a delightful addition to the Lola Reads series, offering a charming and educational journey into the world of urban beekeeping. In this ninth installment, Lola's curiosity takes center stage as she explores the importance of bees and their role in our ecosystem.
The simplicity of the narrative is its strength, making it an ideal read for young audiences. Lola's adventure with her mother's friend Zora unfolds with a perfect blend of warmth and information. The book succeeds in breaking down complex concepts like pollination and the honey-making process into easily digestible nuggets of knowledge. The special dance of honey bees becomes a captivating dance of words on the page.
The setting of urban beekeeping adds a unique and contemporary touch to the story, making it relatable for children growing up in city environments. The rooftop hives on Zora's apartment building provide a backdrop that effortlessly combines urban living with the natural world.
The illustrations complement the narrative beautifully, bringing Lola's world and the bees to life with vibrant colors and engaging visuals. The inclusion of Lola creating her own garden to attract bees adds a wonderful hands-on element, encouraging young readers to connect with and appreciate nature in their own way.
Lola Meets the Bees stands out as a valuable tool for introducing ecological concepts to children. It seamlessly weaves environmental awareness into Lola's inquisitive nature, promoting a sense of responsibility towards the world around us. The Lola Reads series continues to be a reliable source of both entertainment and education, and this installment is no exception.
Overall, Lola Meets the Bees is a sweet and accessible read that educates without feeling didactic. It's a buzz-worthy addition to any young reader's collection.

This is a super cute, and educational book, about bees for small children.
My daughter enjoyed it and I would recommend this for anyone who wants to teach their little ones about bees and the importance of pollination.
This book gives an excellent explanation of bees, safety, hives, getting the honey, etc. It is age appropriate for early elementary and is engaging. The illustrations are wonderful!
I am loving this series so much! This picture story book is one of the most perfect books to introduce to your kid about bees and how their world functions as.
I just love how the author and the artist have perfectly blended all the required information and their realistic yummy versions of bees/their honey combs/their kingdom/information on their stings and how we can protect ourselves from them. I appreciate the fact that this book explains well when bees sting if they must!
The kids will know why bees are the way they are and from where we get the honey on our tables from.
Love the illustrations so much!
Thank you, Charlesbridge, for the advance reading copy.
Beautifully illustrated. A wonderful supplemental book for homeschoolers learning about pollinators or just bees and simple to follow along, as well as answer children’s questions about bees. Really enjoyed the encouragement to support bees and how to do so in a city.
This Lola book actually ended up being one of my favorites from the collection!
We are big Lola fans in our house... the illustrations are ALWAYS so inviting and beautiful, I always appreciate the aesthetic of each book.
There are so many fun facts about bees and farming them. I think this is very age appropriate and I hope this shows kids how lovely and less scary bees really are.
I also appreciated the small blurb about bee stings on the cover page.
Thank you NetGalley and Charlesbridge for another digital copy from the lovely Lola collection of stories.
Another winning Lola title! It's no surprise that this Lola book shines since the others in the series do too. Lola is back for another fantastic learning adventure. I love how accessible this book is while still teaching us a lot about bees. It has a great story with interesting facts blended together. The pictures are engaging and add a lot of depth and understanding to the text. I've already added this to my list of spring books to buy! This would make a great addition to a spring celebration and / or an Easter basket.
I'm a huge fan of the Lola books in general. This one was very cute. Lola meets a beekeeper and learns about how important bees are. Illustrations are great. Text is perfect for young readers. Highly recommend.
3.5 stars rounded up. The illustrations were my favorite part. The text was educational if a bit straightforward.
Even though this is a fiction book, this book offers a lot of useful facts about bees and their hive. This is a good book for children who take an interest in bees.
I received an advanced copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
It’s all about the bees and young Lola who gets to visit them. When she gets to visit her mother’s friend who is a bee keeper, Lola is beyond excited. Dressing up in the protective garb, Lola meets the Queen Bee, the sleeping babies and all the worker bees. As she eats the honey on bread, Lola is given flower seeds to plant at her place. This picture book shows the reader all sorts of fun facts of honey bees and bumblebees, and many other bees too. Lola is an excited child with all sorts of adventures in her other picture books. A fun read with pretty designs of those titular bees!
