I recently read The Edge of Hope by Robin Williams, and I must say it left a deep impact on me. The author, who previously wrote GIRL, has presented a raw and vulnerable collection of poems, prose, and affirmations that take you through a journey of hurt, pain, betrayal, grief, and anger, ultimately leading to a destination of healing, self-love, forgiveness, confidence, and reflection.

The book is a mix of modern and experimental poetry, which I found to be quite unique and refreshing. The author's writing style is captivating and powerful, and it's impossible not to feel the emotions behind each word. The Edge of Hope is an honest and brave account of the things that almost broke the author and their journey towards healing and self-discovery.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to everyone who is looking for a powerful and inspiring read. The Edge of Hope is a journey that will leave you with a sense of hope, courage, and strength.

Raw, vulnerable, and heart-wrenching, this collection is Williams’ best work yet. The exploration of grief and the complicated feelings that can come with it was so well-done, as each poem contributed to the deep and complex narrative that Williams slowly pieced together for the reader. The inclusion of mixed media elements like the collages added a whole other layer of beauty to the collection. They invoked the same feelings that the poems themselves did, and they complemented the collection perfectly.

I didn’t take a deep breath until I read the last page, as I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Reading this was truly a beautifully cathartic experience.

Thank you to NetGalley and Q for the arc!

Wow! So raw, vulnerable, and emotionally honest. I could feel the emotions being alchemized into words—the heartbreak, the grief, the pain. I could feel it all. I love the mixed media images in there, too, and the creative ways that the prose and poetry were delivered. It was a beautiful , and heartbreaking, experience to read this!

I read an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley. I had no knowledge of-- or expectations from-- this collection or poet before reading, I simply saw it was available and the description intrigued me. There was a time in my life, perhaps around 15-17 years old, when this would have been the perfect poetry collection. My teenage self would give this 5 stars, find it very edgy and deep, and be in awe of Williams' reflections on heartbreak, intense subjects, and the process of grief. Similarly, I think this is a collection that will resonate with a younger audience as I feel it lands squarely within the category of the newer "social media poetry" genre that is becoming increasingly common. My respect entirely to Robin Williams for publishing this heartfelt, deeply personal collection.

As an adult who mainly reads poetry, this collection felt a bit simple. Williams' writing style is very straightforward and literal, a perk for readers who don't want to have to work to understand poetry. It did, however, leave me wishing for a bit more metaphor, imagery, or simply more beautiful language rather than what felt a bit like diary excerpts with extra linebreaks inserted. There are a handful of poems that are of a slightly higher caliber that I feel do a lot of work for the book and overall narrative. The inclusion of graphic art made for an interesting contrast and I liked how the artwork complimented the poems themselves. Some of the poems started to feel redundant by the end and while I saw and understood the movement toward healing, I would have loved to come away with a clearer sense of forward progression, or perhaps simply a stronger timeline. Overall I am glad I read this collection and appreciate the opportunity to read the work of a growing artist.

This spoke to me and I am definitely going to buy this paperback when it comes out. I never related to poetry as much as this book. Robin is so brave.

This has been my favourite poetry collection this year by far--possibly one of my favourite reads altogether! The combination of poetry, prose and artwork kept each page from becoming samey (which is a problem I often come across in poetry). I appreciated the content warning in the beginning and the honesty of the collection. This book resonated with me in ways I wasn't expecting. I will definitely be revisiting this in the future.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
