A very interesting read. Some of these words I knew came from Shakespeare but there were quite a few I had no idea.

This strikes. me more as a reference book than a book to read for fun. The way it was organized was a little off-putting to me.

It might have been more interesting if instead of just a plain list it also included where the phrases were first used and maybe even an example of how they're used today because there were a lot that I have never heard before and just seemed random.

This was interesting seeing words and phrases from Shakespeare's day that are used today. I wouldn't necessarily call most of them slang but it was a fun read nevertheless.

Fascinating as it is, this book was not what I expected. It is just a list of expressions originated by the Bard. Impressive for sure. There are different sections for everyday slang, impressions of great beauty, clever invectives, epigrams, philosophy and, my personal favorite, interesting expressions that cannot be easily classified. What I missed was some kind of organization. Everything is listed alphabetically and there is no explanation or reference to the play (or sonnet) where it came from. This volume will be of great help when you need a quote for a greeting card or for trivia contests. It will delight readers to discover that expressions used in their daily lives come from Shakespeare, but it will not teach anything about his work. Enjoyable and informative, not didactic, which may be a good thing for some readers. I wanted a little more.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, #NetGalley/#Dover Publications.

I am always struck by how many expressions we use everyday originated in Shakespeare's plays. And who knows some of them may have existed before his writing especially if it was everyday slang. But I am glad to see a book that captures phrases, philosophies, etc. all in one place. This is a fun read -- it is meant to be a reference book not as a book to read cover-to-cover. I remember seeing some notable Shakespeare plays recently and recognizing slang as well as phrases used in book titles by Steinbeck and Faulkner. This book would be a great gift for all Shakespeare lovers as well as people who love words.

Thank you to Netgalley and Dover Publications for an ARC and I voluntarily left this review.
