It was fun to read. Loved the characters too. Enjoyed till the end. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a free e-book.
Gracie, a cello player, hates hockey. Maybe hate is a strong word, but after growing up forced to go to her brother's games, having hockey-obsessed parents, and being in a disastrous relationship with a hockey player, she wants nothing to do with the sport. Gracie's neighbor. Felix, is a hockey player, but he has hidden depths: he loves classical music, enjoys reading, and is actually an extremely sweet guy. When Gracie's apartment floods and she's forced to stay with Felix, she is forced to confront the idea that maybe there's more to Felix than she thought...and maybe there's more to their relationship.
I really enjoyed this book! It is definitely a closed-door book, so there is zero spice, but the characters were interesting, the plot was fun, and it was overall a sweet book. I'd never heard of the Sweater Weather series, and was quite intrigued by the idea that there is a series of books written by different authors that all take place in the same world. I'm going to check out some of the other books in this series because this one was so fun!
I want to extend my gratitude to JPC Publishing and Jenny Proctor for providing me with an E-ARC through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Absolutely Not in Love is a heartwarming slow burn romance that's sure to captivate your heart. It certainly captured mine.
The story revolves around Felix, a professional hockey player with a love for classical music and a personal library that's the envy of any bookworm.
His next door neighbour, Gracie, a symphony cellist, has a strict policy against dating hockey players. But she quickly discovers that Felix is more than just a typical hockey player.
As the story progresses, we really start to see these two characters deep connection unfold. They share a common thread of never feeling quite "enough”. However, their mutual support and understanding bring out the best in each other. Their shared love for classical music and books becomes the bridge that connects their souls.
As someone who grapples with anxiety and self-doubt, I found Felix's journey particularly heartening. His struggles and insecurities, especially within the context of his relationship with Gracie, add an extra layer of relatability and emotional depth to the story.
In Absolutely Not in Love, you'll discover a touching romance that not only provides moments of pure joy but also addresses real life challenges with grace and sensitivity. If you're in search of a heartwarming love story featuring well developed characters and a dose of reality, this book deserves a top spot on your reading list.
Absolutely adorable. I am a huge sucker for hockey romance, and I love the sweater weather universe so this was the perfect combo.
Despite this being a sweet, guaranteed HEA romance, there was just enough conflict to keep your heart pumping.
I really really love hockey MMCs who have character depth. I did not connect much with the classical music components but I did appreciate that it was a non conventional way for the two characters to relate to each other.
The dialogue was super cute and fun, there was tension, humor, and we love when a guy tries real hard to win the girl.
I will definitely be reading more by this author.
This is my second try with this series, and I think it will be my last. "Absolutely Not in Love" has sweet moments and is an easy read, but it lacks substance and agency.
Gracie has no depth as a character, and her grudge is ridiculous. Her whole life is shaped around a six-month relationship during high school! There is nothing beyond her thinking about dating and being caught up in high school memories. She struck me as entirely bitter and pretentious.
Felix at least has more going on with his life, but I wasn't getting a sense of why he was attracted to Gracie other than her being pretty and playing the cello. Not a lot to go on.
Regarding their relationship, Gracie has a little growth and gains some self-awareness, but it's not all that impressive. Felix does the heavy lifting.
Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for providing an eARC for review.
Thank you NetGalley for an Advanced Copy of the book. I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
5 stars!
I don't normally enjoy clean romances, but this book is just amazing! I flew through it and absolutely fell in love with Gracie and Felix. I mean, if you don't swoon over Felix, I'm not sure what would make you swoon.
"Turns out, self-awareness and humility, and a really good apology, are incredibly sexy."
There's something about being self aware. Something incredibly sexy. Knowing yourself well enough to understand the motivations behind what you do and why and able to work through how they help/hinder your life and actually listening to others and taking responsibility for your actions and being willing to change is just not as simple as it sounds and people who have put in the work (and continue to put in the work) are just rare and formidable. Couldn't help but root for these two.
I really want to go back and read the other books in the series now.
Gracie is absolutely, not interested in any sort of relationship with a hockey player. After a high school relationship gone wrong with a hockey player and her families obsession with the sport, she has banished the sport and players from her mind. No matter how attractive they may be.
But when she learns more about her handsome hockey player neighbor, she slowly starts to decide that maybe there is more than meets the yes to the guy next door.
After pipes in her apartment burst and destroy everything she owns, she runs next door to Felix - who she later finds out is her landlord. After she stays with him during the repairs to her own apartment, she finds out that they are more common than she was led to believe - sharing a love of classical music and books.
And with those similarities, Gracie decides that maybe the prospect of being worth the risk is worth more than the fear of him being a hockey player.
This is a super cute and sweet, slow-burn book about Gracie who is a cellist an Felix a professional hockey player and they start developing some feelings about each other. Slow-burn is one of my favorites tropes because it's so exciting to read how they start getting to know each other and how the relationship starts to develop. I like how they heal each other, and how sweet he is, I'm like I want one of those!. I want to read more about other characters that appear on this book like Summer and I would of liked that they talk with Felix's father. I also love the bonus escenes OMG so exciting!!
Gracie and Felix are the cutest couple ever!!! I've been looking forward to reading this one ever since we got to meet them in the first book of this super fun Sweater Weather series! (All the books are written by different authors and can be read as standalones)! And let me tell you that all of my expectations were met and more! So stinkin' cute and swoony!!!
Be still my heart! If you are the type of reader who collects book boyfriends, then you need to add this book to your reading list because Felix is amazing!!!
Gracie has great spunk and the sweetest heart. She needs someone to hold it carefully and securely and stand by her side through it all! And not be a hockey player! Which of course crosses Felix off the list! Hahaha! But don't worry, he is just his wonderful self and keeps being there for Gracie and she soon sees his true colors!
So many great scenes in this book. All the bookish talk, reading on the sofa together, the water issue, the meals, the concert, the music talk, the big hockey game...ALL OF IT!!!! Seriously adorable! Definitely a reread for me and one I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great read!
Content: Clean. Some kissing/making out but nothing graphic or further than kisses.
I received a copy from the publisher, JPC Publishing, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Happy Reading!!!
This one is my favorite of the Sweater Weather series!
Flix is a goalie, and his neighbor hates hockey. But Gracie falls for him when she leans to know him. They have a lot in commun. And Felix is more than just a hockey player.
Felix is adorable and you cannot not fall for him! He loves book and music just like Gracie. I loved their flirting and communication.
Definitly a cozy must read for Fall!
I would like to thank Netgalley and the author, Jenny Proctor, for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review. I would like to start by saying this was a hilarious and loving book, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for a sweet rom-com with no spice. At the very beginning, I was going to rate this book 1-2 stars as I didn't like how early on the main characters lives were intertwined and how close they got in a very short amount of time. But the characters themselves make up for that, and because this is a very short read, it's not a big deal. Overall, I rate this a 3.75.
This book is a captivating journey through the depths of imagination. Its rich storytelling and well-developed characters kept me engaged from start to finish. With its thought-provoking themes, it transcends genres and offers something for every reader. A must-read for anyone seeking a literary adventure.
I can't believe it took me this long to realize that this was the third book I've read in this series. They're all written by different authors but set in the small town of Harvest Hollow. The first book I read, Just Don't Fall, has main character Logan playing with their minor league team, the Appies. I remember thinking I definitely want to read about Felix, their goalie. This is that book!! Felix is honestly the perfect book boyfriend...a introverted goalie with a love for classical music and an obsession with books to the point he named his personal library Ivy so his teammates think he's spending time with a woman rather than at home with his books! Brilliant idea in my opinion lol!! Then there's the perfect meet cute for the reader: The first time we meet Felix is when he rushes to Grace's rescue in his underwear. He so flustered and awkward around her at first is adorable. This is a sweet small town romance with no spicy scenes but all the feels and plenty of kissing. I'm looking forward to catching up on the rest of the series now.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
When her teenage years were filled with her family's hockey obsession, it's no wonder cellist Gracie has sworn off dating players. But the goalie next door is out to prove that he's more than the game. Although they both initially fight their mutual attraction, Felix and Gracie (and the reader) can't help but fall with the forced-proximity slow-burn building between them.
Things I adored:
- an endlessly thoughtful, self-aware love interest who does therapy and can write an apology to rival Mr Darcy
- a passionate heroine pulling off the most epic grand gesture
- texting, long distance, and the sweetest reunions that make it worth the wait
- exploration of parental expectations and and complicated family relationships
- the most adorable nine-year-old nephew
Absolutely Not in Love was my first read of the Sweater Weather series, but I'm definitely going back to visit these delightfully cozy and sweetly swoon-worthy romances. These are the perfect seasonal read to warm you from the inside out!
ABSOLUTELY loved this book. I’m a sucker for hockey romances and I just loved these characters. Such amazing fall vibes and I couldn’t recommend this book to my friends fast enough 🩷
First thought: An adorable hockey romance that will have you wanting to throw on classic music and binge read this books This one is just so cute, you instantly fall in love with Felix and Gracie. I have been shipping these two since they were briefly introduced in another Appies story. Highly recommend!
Gracie is a music teacher by day and plays the cello in a symphony at night, she loves classical music. One thing she can’t stand is hockey, she will never date a hockey player ever again, it is something she has cut out of her life. Her neighbor across the way plays for the local team and his dreamy dark hair Thor vibe is making her want to rethink her no hockey rule.
Felix is the star goalie for the Appies he is the yes man always there to lend a hand and help. He is an introvert and likes his quiet space where he can decompress, cook, read and listen to classical music. He has been secretly crushing on his neighbor for the last 6 months but she hates all things hockey and his life is hockey. He’s on a mission to convince him that he’s more than his job and taking a chance on him is worth it.
Tropes you’ll find:
* Neighbors to Lovers
* Forced Proximity
* Cinnamon Roll MMC
* Sports- Hockey
* Closed Door
* Dual POV
This book was absolutely adorable! I’ve read a few in this cute fall series now, and you can’t go wrong with any of them! This is the perfect fall romance.
*Disclaimer: I was kindly provided with an advanced reader copy of this book through NetGalley.*
‘Absolutely Not in Love’ is a cozy sport’s romance that turns out to be more of a musician’s romance. Gracie is a cellist and music teacher that has a difficult relationship with ice hockey. Our MMC, Felix, plays professional ice hockey in the minor leagues. The two are neighbours and, through a series of (un)fortunate events, end up being forced into close proximity.
Felix is an absolutely heart-melting character. If you’re looking for a sensitive, self-aware, shy, and mature man who does not shy away from going after what he wants (even if he struggles to express that in a not awkward way sometimes), Felix is the guy for you. He encapsulates some of my personal favourite tropes in romance novels. For one he’s an athlete, but more importantly, he has a crush on our FMC from the first page onwards. He falls first. I saw myself falling in love with him at the same time as Gracie was, because how could you not? He’s devoted, sweet, he will buy you books and cook for you.
As somebody who used to play the cello, I liked Gracie from the start. My appreciation for her only grew the more I got to know her. She’s intelligent and funny and she’s open to changing her ways for the right person.
Overall, this was a highly enjoyable book. I would recommend it to anyone who is in the mood for a comforting, sweet romance that makes you long for more love in your own life (or it makes you appreciate the love in your own life more).
This one is a sweet sweet hockey romance. I loved it, especially Felix with his kind gentle soul. Gracie hates hockey and everything that resembles it, so what shall she do when she has so hot neighbor who is also a hockey player? A little bit of different sports romance with a slow burn, slow seduction that will warm your heart.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
Absolutely Not In Love by Jenny Proctor
-Sweater Weather Series-
3/5⭐️
This was a sweet, hallmark style sports romance full of all the cheesy moments you would expect.
•My Blurb•
Gracie, middle school orchestra teacher and professional cellist, has sworn off all hockey players. She’s been burned in the past and it’s better if she just avoids all hockey in general. Too bad her new apartment is next to, you guessed it, a handsome hockey player. Felix is a goalie for his AHL team and prefers books to people. The fact that he has a little crush on his hockey hating neighbor gives him the extra push to get past his social anxiety, he’s determined to change her mind! Will Gracie give Felix the chance to prove he’s not your average hockey player?
•My Thoughts•
This was cute with moments of light swoon. It was predictable but sometimes you just want an easy, good time. I enjoyed all of the classical music references and that Felix had a library (WITH A LADDER!!). Felix was a good guy and not your typical playboy hockey player, which was a fun change. He was quieter and focused and I enjoyed anxiety representation. I will also say this man knows how to write a letter. It was one of my favorite moments of the book! There were plot points and developments I wish the author had spent more time on but all in all it was a sweet, feel-good read.
Thank you to @netgalley and JPC Publishing for the advanced reader copy. All thoughts are my own.
