A fun graphic novel about finding friendship in unlikely places, Summer Vamp is the perfect summer read. It has everything you want and expect to find in a book with a summer camp setting, as well as the added shenanigans of being in the wrong place and needing to keep it a secret. Everything hits right in this book.

I loved this middle grade graphic novel! It has such a fun premise and really lives up to the promise of that premise. This is perfect for middle grade readers who like quirky stories with lots of heart.

I did not like this graphic novel very much. It felt done, predictable, and boring. I don't remember much of it at all.

As someone who doesn't usually pick up middle grade books, I am glad I gave this one a shot. Maya our main character loves to cook and can't wait to spend her summer at a culinary camp, but when the buses are mixed up she ends up at a vampire camp instead and chaos ensues. Even with their differences of human to vampire Maya is able to overcome and make friends for the first time, it is incredibly wholesome. The story and the illustrations are beautiful and perfect for any age. I would like to Thank TBR Tours, Violet Chan Karim, and Netgalley for a copy of the book for review and blog tour purposes.

The concept of Summer Vamp was cute and different. The artwork went along well with the story. I thought overall though it could have just used a bit more development for the characters and the story line.

This is a construction that we've seen before in middle grade fiction - a kid ends up at the wrong summer camp. It works fairly well in this case. Not an especially deep read but a fun one as the characters deal with their fears and preconceived notions.

A vampire camp that's super friendly? I love it. I also really liked how the idea of being the only human at vampire camp makes the main character realize how important being yourself is.

So funny and sweet! I have been recommending this book to readers who are a fan of Witch Boy or wanting a graphic novel with a sprinkle of spooky!

This book is exactly what it says on the tin, a dramatically ironic situation that leads to new experiences and new friendships. I love the way the book handled having a potential new stepparent and the negative feelings that can come with that.

A cute graphic novel where a young teen thinks she's going to culinary camp only to realize she actually is at a summer camp for vampires. I loved how the grumpy cinnamon roll eventually realizes that her new friends are worth investing herself in, as well as her bond with the camp cook.

THIS WAS SO FUNNY AND CUTE!

Maya is going to a summer camp and she is supposed to be going to culinary camp but she gets on the wrong bus and ends up going to vamp camp. She is scared but tries to keep her cool and make friends. She realizes these girls aren’t that different from her and she really grows while she is at camp. She also makes friends with the cafeteria lady and even gets to work on her culinary skills.

Summer vamp is a graphic novel about growing up, making friends and figuring out who you are. I kind of hope this gets a second story for the “next summer”. I am excited to see what else is to come from Violet Chan Karim.

This book was very cute. It is a fast-paced graphic novel about growing up and friendship. When our main character gets on the wrong bus to go to summer camp, instead of culinary camp she is at one for vampires.

It was really fun watching her create friendships and bonds with vampires despite her original fears and setbacks. I think this would act as a great lesson and example to younger kids about opening themselves up to rejection when making friends, because ultimately you usually end up making connections that means a lot.

A summer camp? FOR VAMPIRES?

Summer Vamp by Violet Chan Karim is an adorable graphic novel about a girl that accidentally enrolls in a summer camp for vampires. After a lackluster school year, Maya anticipates an even more disappointing summer. The only thing she’s looking forward to is cooking and mixing ingredients in the kitchen, which these days brings her more joy than mingling with her peers . . . that is until her dad's girlfriend registers her for culinary summer camp! Maya's summer is saved! . . . or not. What was meant to be a summer filled with baking pastries and cooking pasta is suddenly looking a lot . . . paler?! Why do all of the kids have pointy fangs? And hate garlic? Turns out that Maya isn't at culinary camp—she's at a camp for VAMPIRES! Maya has a lot to learn if she's going to survive this summer . . . and if she's lucky, she might even make some friends along the way.

This graphic novel is just too adorable to pass up. The art style is amazing and the story is so realatble.

Antics and hi-jinks ensue as Maya tries to escape—and keep her human identity hidden from her fellow campers. Along the way, she forms friendships, discovers her voice, and even finds a way to let her cooking skills shine. With its fun art and humorous events, this graphic novel is a perfect for summer feel-good read about friendship, acceptance and standing up for yourself.

"Summer Vamp" is a delightful and quirky graphic novel that takes a unique twist on the classic summer camp story. When Maya, a very human kid, accidentally ends up at a camp for vampires, her summer turns into an adventure she never expected. Maya's anticipation for a fun-filled culinary camp is dashed when she realizes her campmates are all vampires. Despite the initial shock and the many vampire quirks she has to navigate—like avoiding garlic—Maya's journey is one of growth, friendship, and a lot of unexpected fun. The story is both humorous and touching, making it a perfect read for middle-grade audiences.
