Once again, I have called in love with an educational DK Children’s book and cannot wait to add it to my family’s home library. This stunningly illustrated book is full of superstitions, folklore and traditions from all over the globe. It includes animals and events and sports and even some spooky rituals that all influence the cultures around the world.

As a family who owns a black at, it was so fun to read about how our kitty is considered lucky because she has bits of white fur, but also could be unlucky because she is the first to greet us every morning.

And did you know that if you plant peppers while you are angry, they grow even hotter?? No wonder my abuela’s food was SO SPICY.

I bet everyone knows their birthstones, but getting to read about the meaning behind each one and where these correlations came from (they date back to biblical times!).

This book was so fun to explore and I highly recommend not only picking it up for our usual, but actually buying it so you can reference it time and time again.

This book is outstanding and full of background information to soooooo many myths and superstitions! After just a few minutes of reading, I learned the background to so many different stories and superstitions that I have heard my whole life but never knew where they came from. So cool!! I absolutely can’t wait until this book is published, I will absolutely be purchasing a copy. Fantastic illustrations, awesome information in small doses - this is a fabulous book for adults and children.

For years I have done a "holiday of the day" in my classroom, partly to show students that there is something worth celebrating every day, and partly to introduce them to different cultures and traditions. Before major events like exams or graduation, I do a "good luck ceremony" and introduce a different good luck tradition. Thus, you can only imagine my glee when I saw this book!

This is a great resource for me, and by keeping it on my classroom shelf it will be a great, fun resource for my students. I can imagine offering an incentive where the winner of whatever "contest" will get to choose the next good luck ceremony or which passage to read from this book.

Because this is written in a simple format, with lots of great illustrations, the time I used to spend on research will be truly minimized. Such a fun book!!

Thank you to NetGalley and DK Children for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

Thank you Heather Alexander and NetGalley for the ARC. I leave this review voluntarily and happily. Also thank you publishers for your hard work!

The pictures and the illustrations I absolutely enjoyed. My nephew absolutely loved them as I showed them to him. Reading through this I had no idea there was so much good luck and of course bad luck. Not only that the superstitions out there. This book is super informative and I definitely will re read it in the future if not sooner rather than later. I loved the writing style and the colors were absolutely bright and welcoming.

Thank you once again for approving me to read this book it definitely earned every star!

Pros: This book about good luck charms and traditions from around the world was delightful and informative. The illustrations were bright and detailed, and I loved the fun facts throughout. My favorite thing about this book is that it features cultures from around the world and is not US- or Euro-centric.

Cons: This is not a con but a note to readers that although this is a children's book, it is not a picture book for young children--there is a lot of text in this book! That's not at all a bad thing--it allows the book to include lots of great information. It's just a note that younger kids might need to read this with an adult.

Thank you to NetGalley and DK Children for the opportunity to read this book.

DK hits it out of the park with another great book to add to our family library! Heather Alexander has formatted, written, and illustrated one of the coolest collection of superstition stories and information. The outline of the book is clear, fascinating, colorful, easy to absorb, and extremely interesting. It was surprising to find some of my own superstitions/luck traditions in the book, as I had no idea where it came from! Highly recommend for fun family reads!

This was exceptionally informative and cutesy at the same time! Reading about these things we all know in this format was neat. I also loved the illustrations and thought they brought that perfect something to it.

What a fun book. I loved that there were superstitions from all over the world and many (even from the US) that I hadn't heard before. I liked that it balanced the fun with science and possible explanations or true/false determinations from scientists (all without insulting/condescending). I found the sections of personal superstitions/rituals of various pop culture individuals to be really fun to read about. The illustrations were lovely and the whole tone of the book sparks conversation and will be enjoyed by kids and adults.
