This is the second-chance romance I've been desperately waiting for!
While every book in this series can be read as a standalone (and I didn't read them in order at all), I do think that this finale is made even better by the four books' worth of tension between West and Sophie.
Readers first meet the pair and become acquainted with their earlier ill-fated courtship in the first book of the series, which focuses on his younger brother, James. Though circumstances kept them apart, Sophie and West are clearly still harboring feelings for one another and doing everything they can to avoid confronting them.
When this book opens, Sophie and her younger sister Alexandra are both widowed and have been brought even closer by their shared circumstances. But Alexandra has found love again, and the only thing that seems to be keeping her from re-entering a state of nuptial bliss is the fact that the loss of her companionship would leave Sophie very much alone.
Sophie concocts a scheme to fake a courtship, giving Alexandra tacit permission to pursue her own love, but she knows that her sister won't fall for the ruse unless the suitor is someone that Sophie could truly love. Someone that she did love, once.
West agrees, launching them into a fake courtship that is as awkward as it is adorable, and it's an absolute delight to watch them fight the inevitable.
I've been rooting for them both since the start of this series. The whole set of Regency Vows storylines are self-aware about the absolute absurdity of their romantic dramas. Each couple's courtship is a house of cards built from schemes, secrets, and deceptions, each more trope-y and unbelievable than the last. Through all of it, West is portrayed as the one rational mind among their social set, too staid and responsible to be roped into a convoluted plot. And yet, in this story, he gets sucked into one anyway, because he loves Sophie so. Freaking. Much.
He truly is the best of men.
With all that build-up, this book could have been a disappointment, but it was a delight. Just as funny and cheeky and entertaining as the rest, but with higher emotional stakes this time around.
I'm sad to see this series end, but each and every one of them is a worthy read for any fans of the genre.
I’m sad this series is ending but glad to get my hands on a copy of To Woo And To Wed.
Historical romances are a genre I enjoy and this book was no exception!
Sophie and West have been playing the long game! Pining over each other for years, and almost engagement, then a re-connection. Without giving too much away, I thoroughly enjoyed the dual timelines. It helped me understand what the characters had gone through to get to this place. There is tragedy, heartbreak and grief as the story unfolds. When Sophie and West find themselves reconnecting, the tension is top notch and there’s some series steam!
I LOVE when a series comes full circle with cameos from previous books. Great series Martha Waters!
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy! After I read the ebook, I ran out and got the physical copy to add to my shelf.
Martha Waters is the queen of funny, smart, emotionally resonant historical fiction. Another great installment in a great series!
To Woo and to Wed is the fifth and final book in The Regency Vows series, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you're looking for a low-conflict, second chance, open door Regency romance, this one checks all the boxes. I did find the main roadblock to the two MCs getting together a bit mushy, especially for the current day plotline, but it came together really nicely.
I’ve read a few books in the series and I love the friends group.

I love the title and cover of the book and I envisioned West as Jude Law 😍 so Sophie drove me crazy a lot to fight West but they agree to a fake engagement for personal reasons. Mixed in are chapters of the past which I get her hesitancy and I liked her growth at the end. Shows her maturity and greater trust in her relationship and strength in herself.

The wedding plans were fun, knowing no one would want to do any of that but it seemed pretty historically incorrect but I’m here for the regency romcom.

Content and possible triggers: This has multiple open door scenes. Past death of loved one, past accident, manipulation, betrayal, being barren

This series concluded with this book releasing earlier this month. I need to read book 1 and 4. I think Emily and Belfry (book 3) is my favorite couple from this series. These are my own thoughts and opinions.
Martha Waters doesn't miss! I first happened upon her books when I requested an earlier book to review -- not realizing it was historical which is not usually my genre of choice. And I loved it anyway! I've since tried giving some other historical romance a shot but it turns out it's Waters' writing, characters, and banter that I love in particular. I'm sad this series is over but will continue to read anything she writes!
This book was so cute and emotional and heartfelt! I have loved this series so much and I'm so sad it's over.
I loved the premise of this book. Even though the fake relationship trope has been done in so many different ways, Martha Waters managed to make it seem unique and intriguing. I also adored the then vs. now storyline as West and Sophie's past was so heart-wrenching and the yearning they still had for each other was so well done. West never gave up on their love story (in his words; Sophie had ruined him). On the other hand, Sophie was so strong and, excuse my language, but she was a bad a*s b*tch! I loved how she learned to handle the duke (West's father), how independent she was, and how much she cared for her family and friends. Ugh! So GOOD!
Can't wait for more from Queen Waters. Congrats on the release.
Things I Loved:
- Historical romance
- Second chance
- Fake engagement
- Family drama
- Then/Now storyline
- Friends with benefits (ish)
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria for the ARC of this book.
Very cute conclusion to this regency series. I read books #1, 2, & now 5. It was cute enough that I may go back and read the other two.
Sophie and West were great lead characters with fantastic chemistry. Second chance romance and fake dating are two of my favorite tropes so I especially liked this one. There were so many layers to this story; a menacing father, loss of a parent and friend, lost love, meddlesome siblings - it made the story that much more fun.
Overall, this was a very cute and sweet regency romance.
I love the series of Martha Waters and this book keep the flag very high. If you love HIstorical romance, you’ll adore this book.
I loved this one so much! After four books of build-up for these two, the payoff was great. I loved it so much. The tension, the bantering, the CHEMISTRY, everything about this book was exactly what it needed to be. I loved seeing how each ridiculous event from one book to the other led to the culmination of some gorgeous love stories, a lovely group of friends, and just some hilarious books. This was so good, West and Sophie were such fun characters to be around and I loved seeing their friends and family react to their fake engagement like they all knew that they would end up together anyway. This was just so enjoyable.
A nice historical romance and quick read. I enjoyed this but wasn’t obsessed! A nice quick read if you need it.
this series is so much fun to read, and each and every book is at the same level of delightful historical romcom fun.
While I have enjoyed all of this series, I do feel like there are so many now, all with overlapping characters, that I had a hard time differentiating the cast and plots.

I love this series and it was so fun ‘catching up’ with the characters of previous books and also finally getting Sophie and West’s book! As always with any Martha Waters book it’s full of delicious pining and swoons worthy romance. I can’t wait to see what’s next!!!
Friends to lovers, second chance, marriage of convenience?! MARTHA WATERS nailed it with the final in her "Regency Vows" series- To Woo and To Wed!
West has always adored Sophie since seeing her in the ballroom. In fact, he was close to proposing to her years ago until an accident that left him bedbound. Now, they are reunited and spending time together once more strolling the gardens, riding horse drawn carriages, and attending house parties. Sophie no longer is married and West has no lady love sparking his interest (or dance card). Yet, Sophie's sister is the crux as she won't marry....believing Sophie to be miserable. There's only one thing left to do, Sophie to marry Wes and show everyone just how happy she is. Even if those wedding promises are fake and not meant to come true for two lovers meant to be together.
I squealed in delight while reading To Woo and to Wed because we finally got West and Sophie's story. I immediately felt the connection and importance of their love, especially from our hero West's point of view. The pining, the wanting and the banter made me gaps and believe that this couple was truly (and will) stay together for all of time. While sad to see The Regency Vows series come to a close, West and Sophie's story brought on a fantastic conclusion to a series I'm sure to re-listen to in the future.
A second chance romance meets a fake engagement as West and Sophie reconnect seven years after their almost engagement. The story is told back and forth in time to explain how Sophie married West's best friend while West was unconscious and injured from a curricle accident. Now, Sophie is a widow and some convoluted romance book reasoning has her asking West to fake an engagement so her sister will marry. I found Sophie mostly irritating while poor West has been pining for all these years. The characters from the previous books are involved here so I think you would be slightly confused reading this out of order. At least be aware the couples mentioned have their own stories. There are some unusual plot points not found in the average romance book. They have a one night fling four years prior, Sophie doesn't necessarily want children and West is fine with that (even though a Marquess is usually concerned about an heir), she had an affair with one of the men in their group of friends. Overall entertaining.
What a sweet and satisfying ending to The Regency Vows Series. Seeing Sophie finally move on and accept the happiness she deserves was great. I loved how she and Weat finally navigated their feelings and got it together. Favorite book out of the series!!
I'm sad to see this series end, but was so excited to read the final installment!
West has been one of my favorite characters, and I loved his story. His dedication to Sophie is one to be admired. I adored their relationship and how it evolved over the story. A great book!
It feels like I've been waiting ages to get West and Sophie's story. It's been hinted at and danced around in the first four books in this raucous series. I worried a little that it would be a let down after so much build up, but it was not at all! It had the same hijinks and humor as the others in the series. It is also fun to get continued peeks into the lives of the four couples featured in the previous books. All of whom "help" Sophie and West get together for their own HEA. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a period romance, but definitely great for fans of the show, Bridgerton and its books.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a eARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
A very solid conclusion to the series. You have two eldest children denying themselves what they really want for the good of other people and they have to get over it! I really enjoyed both Sophie and West's journeys over the course of the book. West uses a cane, and having that representation was great, especially because it isn't something that is inconsequential. I really liked that his abilities actually got conversed about between the two of them, especially in the sex scenes. The other thing I loved was the plot between Sophie and Alexandra. All in all, it is a fun romance for anyone who enjoys a regency setting or fake dating tropes.
