I was looking forward to this book since I enjoyed the series but was majorly disappointed. This sis the last book in the series but felt rushed. The book goes back and forth between current and seven years ago. It feels as though the chapter repeat themselves. DNF. I will continue to read this authors books but this one was just a no for me . 2 stars.

What a fun ending to this series!
West & Sophie have been thrown back together through their friends – no surprise there considering how the meddle in each other’s love lives.
The history between them is apparent and a few flashbacks to 7, 4 and 1 year ago gives the backstory we all wanted.
Meddling families, plenty of regency area details, a few steamy scenes, second chance romance & FUN!
Ok this is by far THE BEST conclusion book to a series I’ve ever read! I received an approved advance copy from NetGalley and I have read all the other books. While nothing will replace my love for Jeremy and Diana’s book-THIS IS A CLOSE SECOND. This book was utterly amazing. I loved the references to all the other books (especially the memory of Jeremy’s terrible waistcoat). All the characters you know and love are here with the additions to Sophie’s crazy family (and their stupidly hilarious game off pass the bread). I’ve always wanted Sophie and West to have their happy ending and for them to finally have it so just so satisfying, but of course you need the drama that all of the friend’s had in their love lives. And West calling Sophie his Potato was absolutely hilarious. West is truly a gentleman and had me melting with his feelings and declarations for Sophie. The ending to this series while sad, was so satisfying that anyone in this series will be in love with. And that epilogue at the end? Truly brilliant and seeing everyone’s happy endings practically made me cry. The only way this could be better is if Martha Waters created a series with the friend’s children in the future (please?).
5 stars – What a way to end! To Woo and to Wed is the fifth and final book in The Regency Vows series by Martha Waters and it is fabulous! I absolutely loved it and really couldn’t put it down. We finally see what happened in the past along with the present with West and Sophie. The banter and chemistry are great between the two main characters as well as Sophie’s large family. There are several tropes in this historical novel – second chance romance, fake engagement and forced proximity. This is not really a stand-alone novel and makes more sense when they are read in order. If you are a fan of period pieces, do yourself a favor and read this series!
Thank you for the ARC from NetGalley, Atria Publishing and the author Martha Waters in exchange for an independent, honest review.
Can’t say enough good things about this book. A worthy end to the entire series, especially when one of the prior books hero’s asked if everyone has had enough being crazy. It was charming and lovely and just enough heat and worth all the lead up from the prior books. Loved it
This is the final installment of the series. The author has a really good sense of humor and it shines through her characters. Sophie and West were separated years ago because West's father didn't like Sophie. Sophie marries somebody else because she didn't want West to sacrifice for her.
Years later she is widowed and their paths cross again. The reason for the fake engagement is convoluted and unnecessary however it was a light hearted charming story of two people who never stopped loving the other finding their way back.
As a fan of historical romance, the Regency Vows series has been one of my absolute favorites. This series is packed with romance, comedy, and friendships. I’m sad that this is the last book, but thought it was particularly fitting as a second chance romance. There’s also a fake engagement trope in it that I adored. My only qualm with this book is that the conflict dragged out a little too long. Still, I really enjoyed it and look forward to seeing what else the author comes up with.
First of all, I’m DEVASTATED this series is over. It’s been an absolute ridiculous delight and I can’t wait to see what Martha Waters writes next.
Now for Sophie and West’s story— this was a sloooow burn and about the last 3rd it did drag a bit. Sophie gets it in her head that she still must protect her 23 year old sister and goes about it in the most convoluted way by asking West to fake being engaged. West agrees because he loves Sophie and hates his dad. As expected, the stakes are low and everyone is ridiculous, stubborn and lacks any communication skills. This book (and series overall) does not take itself too seriously and will blatantly point out the tropes and absurdity of characters. Think the Fleabag-ified Persuasion on Netflix, but actually enjoyable.
Thank you to Atria books for the e-ARC.
Fake engagement. Second Chance romance.
This is the fifth book in the series and the last. Sophie and West met seven years ago and it's love at first glance. It seems they shall be married but West's father the Duke interferes. There is an accident and Sophie married someone else.
Seven years later, Sophie is a widow and is worried her sister will not marry if she is single. She hatches a plan to be fake engaged to West. Fake relationship tropes are my least favorite. West's father is so mean. A slow burn with some spicy bits. Overall, a good ending to a fabulous series.
This CAN'T be the final installment!!!
So much unfinished business!
Wonderful read, truly enjoyed it. Perfect amount of sarcasm and humor!
Have loved the entire series!
I’m not going to lie I was hoping for a more intense slow burn than this provided. I think it would have been cool to have West and Sophie’s story run through the first 4 books so we could see what was happening between them during the others’ love stories from their perspectives. I also agree with some other reviewers that the premise of their estrangement - Sophie choosing to marry someone else because of not wanting West to sacrifice for her - is flimsy. I did appreciate that the MCs don’t care about having children, especially that FMC is neutral about motherhood. You don’t get to see that much in HR!
Not my least favorite of the 5 (that is definitely book 1) but not as fun to read as book 4. That being said the author has proven she can write and make good characters so I will definitely check out her future work.
- Thanks NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! -
This series has been fun. There was quite a bit going on this one and it was more of a slow-burn romance, but I did enjoy the characters. This series has always had a nice balance of history and romance, I’m looking forward to reading whatever she writes next.
A special thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a good read and conclusion to this series. I love when historical romance gives me exactly what I need with banter, humor, and feels. This is a second chance romance between Sophie the fmc and West the mmc and is told in both present and past timelines. We see West and Sophie at the beginning of their relationship when they almost got engaged and why they didn't. Sophie ends up marrying a friend of Wes, becomes a widow, and comes into contact with Wes again. There is a fake engagement plot, a great friend group, good humor, and banter. The chapters in the past helped me to understand the heartbreak, grief, and tragedy that the main characters went through. The tension and chemistry were also well written, and two steamy scenes were steamier than I expected which was nice. I loved seeing all the friend groups and couples together it made for a good ending. Thank you, Atria for this arc.
Read if you like:
- Historical romance
- Second chance
- Forced proximity
- Fake engagement

This is the fifth and final installment for Martha Water’s Regency Vows series. This book centers around West and Sophie both of whom were introduced in the first book. Throughout the series we have known that the two have had a past and this book answers all of our questions. I absolutely adored this book. I think it may be my favorite book out of the whole series. I had been waiting for West and Sophie since “To Have and To Hoax” and this book definitely did not disappoint. I love a second chance, fake engagement, it’s always been you love story.
From the previous books, we have known that West and Sophie still have deep feelings for each other but won’t admit to them. West and Sophie were to be engaged and married 7 years prior but due to an unfortunate accident that got his best friend killed and his father who disapproved of the union, they did not get married and she married another man who dies 3 years into their marriage. This book starts off with Sophie’s sister, who is also a widow, refusing to remarry to a man she is in love with because she feels that Sophie will be left behind or alone. So in order for Sophie’s sister to say yes to her man, Sophie concocts a plan to fake an engagement with West, who obviously says yes because he can’t say no to her. Similar to the other books, West and Sophie go through so many ridiculous things just so people do not find out about their ruse. But while they are “faking it”, they learn things about each other and eventually fall back in love. Sophie and West’s insecurities are brought to the forefront where they feel they are not worthy of love and nobody would choose them just for them. Very oldest sibling syndrome…they worry about everyone else and want everyone else to be happy except themselves. I liked how the shenanigans weren’t overdone like in previous installments in the series and the angst and tension was chef’s kiss.
The book is structured with the present (fake engagement) and past (how they initially met and fell in love). And an epilogue to tie everything together. Overall, I loved it and you will like it if you’ve been waiting for their story and love a second chance romance.
This book is a captivating journey through the depths of imagination. Its rich storytelling and well-developed characters kept me engaged from start to finish. With its thought-provoking themes, it transcends genres and offers something for every reader. A must-read for anyone seeking a literary adventure.
The entire Regency Vows series is full of silly and creative plots, laugh-out-loud jokes, and wonderful romance, and Wes and Sophie's story was such a beautiful end to the entire series. Martha Waters really went out with a bang (and made me want to reread the entire series for what I'm sure will only be the first time).
Thank you to the publisher Atria Books for this ARC of To Woo and Wed by Martha Waters.
I started the series The Regency Vows with the first book and have enjoyed each and every book in the series. This is the last and a wonderful grand finale.
I look forward to more novels from the author and highly recommend the whole series - not just this book.
I just reviewed To Woo and to Wed by Martha Waters. #NetGalley
thanks so much for the arc! i love a good second chance romance, and I've enjoyed the books in the series thus far. i was certainly rooting for west and sophie throughout. this book was a delightful read, and i finished it in one afternoon.
what didn't work for me: the time jumps. i think they certainly helped in establishing context but i found them to be overall distracting. i think i wouldv'e preferred a part 1 vs part 2 scenario.
looking forward to whatever Martha waters has planned next!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
A fun delightful read and nice conclusion to the series. It involves some of my favorite tropes (fake engagement!) but also suffers from some classic pitfalls of the genre. Still entertained me.
The last in the beloved Regency Vows series, this time focusing on MCs West, the Marquess of Weston, and Sophie, Lady Fitzwilliam Bridewell -- once totally in love, then separated by a tragic accident. Will their fake engagement to help Sophie's sister wed lead to their own forever love? Swoon!
