This book was so funny, hilarious, and steamy. I really enjoyed the story and the characters were really fun. It's also steamy and such a fun quick read. It's the final book in the series.
I adore Martha Waters’ writing and love the repeated trips into her Regency realm. Her characters are always so well-developed, and I find myself laughing at the banter and the situations they find themselves in. In this final installment of the Regency Vows series, I was not disappointed in finally learning about West and Sophie’s past. I thoroughly enjoyed this ending to the series and getting one last reunion with all of her endearing characters.
What a sweet conclusion to a series I thoroughly enjoyed. It's not as funny or silly as previous installments in this series but that's not really who these characters all anyways. This story has been three books in the making and the background developed over the earlier books gives To Woo and To Wed a lot of context and depth of character within the world Martha Waters has created. Much like the Sophie and West the story itself feels more mature and a little deeper than previous books. I didn't miss the humor of the earlier books because it was replaced fully flushed out characters and emotional growth. The epilogue was especially sweet since Waters gave us a glimpse into where the whole friend group ends up.
This book is the fifth and final installment in the Regency Vows series. As much as I enjoyed the familiarity with the other characters in the book, it is not necessary to have read any of the other books in the series for you to love this fake engagement romance.
Sophia, Lady Fitzwilliam Bridewell was once engaged to West, the Marques of Weston. After an accident, West's father interfered with their relationship, and their engagement was called off. Now, Sophie's recently widowed younger sister, Alexandra, has another chance at happiness but will not act on it unless Sophie is happily married. Sophie does the only thing she can think of, announce a fake engagement to West.
Why I Like It: Each one of the books in this series made me laugh out loud and this was no exception. The antics are hilarious and in Regency Era, are even more amusing.
The Regency Vows series goes out with a bang! I’ve been waiting for Sophie and West’s book since To Have and to Hoax and it was worth the wait! I loved how the book very deftly alternates POV and time periods, taking us back 7 years in the past to see what really happened between them and how those past hurts affect the present.
If you like second chance and fake engagement then this one is for you! Great MMC and I loved that the FMC was ambivalent to having children. Very rare in historical romance but I loved it and it made Sophie stand out as a character!
I’ll be anxiously awaiting Martha’s next series!
This is the fifth and final installment of The Regency Vows. What a hilarious and fun series this has been! We met West and Sophie in the first book, and ever since then I have been looking forward to reading their story, and here we are! West and Sophie were once upon a time very much in love and engaged to be married. But circumstances caused them to separate and they have been pining for each other at a distance for the last seven years. Sophie is now widowed. Her sister has taken a liking to a certain earl, but she won't move forward until Sophie settles down, too. Sophie doesn't want to hold her sister back, so she enlists West's help with a plan to fake an engagement so her sister can move on with her life. The plan is to break off their engagement once her sister is happily married, but it's not that easy. Feelings that they have buried deep down are slowly finding their way to the surface and although Sophie has vowed not to ever risk her heart again, her heart has its own ideas and she may not have a choice in the matter.
The story was highly entertaining with wonderful characters that were full of energy and spunk. The banter between them was absolutely hilarious and I had such a great time reading this! A fun and satisfying end to a delightful series! I am looking forward to whatever this author brings us next!
I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and Atria Books and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Yes! Sophie and West! Finally! What a solid ending to this series - it was great and we finally got these two together and their own HEA.
This book was absolutely worth the wait, and I would say these two have some excellent chemistry - glad to see that this book lived up to my personal hype. Read the whole series - it will help you understand all, but also truly appreciate the level of longing and wait these two went through.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
I have really enjoyed the Regency Vows series and it’s bittersweet seeing it come to an end, but of course it wouldn’t be complete without Sophie and West’s story. We’ve seen snippets of them throughout the series so it was good to see them get their HEA.
Sophie’s sister Alexandra won’t get married until she sees Sophie settled down. A young widow, Sophie hasn’t contemplated remarrying but she’s desperate not to get in the way of Alexandra’s life. So she enlists the help of her former beau West to plan a fake engagement with her. West is the perfect hero. He loves Sophie unconditionally (and there are DEFINITELY some “conditions” in their past that are enough to make any man lose interest).
The story moves back and forth between the present, seven years ago when they first met, and four years ago when “something” happened. It’s dual POV third person and initially I found myself having to flip back to remember which timeline we were on.* Probably at least a third of the book takes place in the past which is necessary to understanding how Sophie and West relate to each other now. This book is full of mutual pining, angst, heartache, and I definitely was in my feelings when reading. It had an overall sad feeling to me, but that wasn’t a bad thing in my opinion—it definitely kept me interested to see how we’d arrive at the finale. Instead the sadness felt deserved. Here are two characters who have both cared for each other for a really long time, but because of circumstances, (which when revealed are reasonable and truly plausible for their separation) they have never been able to wholly commit to each other. This is a true second-chance romance and you definitely have to wade through some of the tough times to get to the deserved ending.
This also is probably Waters’ steamiest book and I was here for it! There are still some assumed intimate scenes, but it was nice to see a little bit more of Sophie and West’s physical chemistry. With each book I think Waters’ writing and dialogue has gotten better and better and even if a reader wasn’t familiar with the characters, they can’t help but know them well by the end of the book. The dialogue sparkled and the tension between West and Sophie pretending to be engaged and yet both really desiring the other was perfection. I’m so excited to see where Martha Waters takes us next. Each couple has given us such a different side to her writing from angsty to humorous, to even ghostly? 😉 You can bet I’ll be reading her next series. I received an early copy from Atria in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
*I don’t think this would have been an issue if I had read in one or two sittings.

A great finale to the series, enjoyed the longing from Wes a little too much. The man woke up from a fever to find his beloved married to one of his friends, I died. The scheming threats from the Duke, this book had so many good subplots that came together.
I didn't read the first two books in the Regency Vows series, but now I absolutely want to!
Too Woo and to Wed was so hilarious, with impeccable timing, character development, and I enjoyed the plot a lot! Sophie and Wes literally invented longing, angst, push-and=pull, almost touching, etc! This was so steamy even when it wasn't spicy! I cannot emphasize enough how hilarious this was!
Thank you so much to Atria Books and NetGalley for providing an ARC!
You know... this might be my fave of the five books in this series. Sophie and West? ICONIC. This couple is 100% all yearning, longing, pining across the ballroom for SEVEN FREAKING YEARS. Like Martha Waters came and hit it out of the park. Loved every second I spent reading this book!
I do highly recommend reading this series, it's one of the best historical romance series I've read and you know, I had fun with each and every book. And it was so nice to see all the couples in this final book and they're found family and close friends and they are always hanging out and I love to see it ngl.
I've been waiting for Wes and Sophie's book since the beginning of this series, so I was PUMPED when Martha announced this book was coming out.
And let me just say, this book was WORTH THE WAIT. Wes and Sophie's chemistry oozed on every single page. The longing, the pining and the swoon were all next level in their book. Not only was it a so satisfying to see Wes and Sophie end up together, it was nice to sell all of the couples from the other books in it too. This book was a great wrap up of the series and I can't wait to read what Martha writes next.
Although you could read this book alone, I highly recommend reading the whole series.
Thanks to NetGalley and Atria for the arc of the book in exchange for my honest opinions.
🎧 To Woo and To Wed 🎧
Genre- Historical Romance.
Length- 336 pages.
My thoughts- To Woo and To Wed is the fifth and final book in the Regency Vows series. Seven years after they first courted, Sophie, a widow, convinces West to fake an engagement.
Read if you enjoy:
- Fake dating & second chance troupe.
- Lots of reappearing characters.
- Open door romance.
- Lots of banter and humor.
- Angst.
Overall, this was a fun book! I’m thinking about going back and reading the entire series from beginning to end! It’s a fun one! Four stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to @netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for my honest review.
I have really enjoyed this group of friends/couples and was very happy to get to West and Sophie's story. I really enjoyed the past part of their relationship but struggled at times with their current day relationship. I needed more tension.
I'm between a 3.5 and a 4 on this one. I wasn't my favorite in the series or anything but I still enjoyed it. I am hit or miss with the fake dating/relationship trope and I think that's what hung me up. It was a great story otherwise.
Thank you for netgalley for the arc
The final installment of this Regency Era romance series did not disappoint. The story was carefully crafted and well developed. Great characters and chemistry. A sweet romance that rounded out a charming and delightful series. Great read
The Regency Vows series has been a long-time favorite of mine and the final book did not disappoint. During the prior four books, West and Sophie displayed undeniable chemistry in the background of other love stories. Finally, it's their turn to get a happily ever after. West and Sophie have the sweetest relationship and I appreciated Waters' commitment to ending the series on a strong note with this much-loved couple.
I think this might be my favorite in the series, but I recommend all five books!
I love that it feels that we have come full circle for the final book as we were introduced to these characters early on. Gonna miss this series.
I was lucky to be gifted an eARC of this book to review. This is a great second chance rom-com story, with all the scheming and the steamy tension I’ve come to expect from this series. This is the final book in the series, and I have read and loved all the previous books. So I knew a little of what to expect before diving into this story.
As far as the plot goes, I loved every second of it. Not only is it a second chance romance, but it is also a fake engagement. And fake dating or fake engagement is one of my favorite troupes! There are definitely some moments that I found very predictable, but that didn’t hinder my enjoyment whatsoever. I love Sophie and West as a couple, and you could really see how much they genuinely cared for one another.
This was definitely a strong story to end on, and I loved that we got to see all our previous couples at some point throughout the book. This felt like the perfect addition to the world Waters has created, and also the perfect way to say goodbye to these characters I’ve grown to love. Sophie and West are a couple that has been hinted at since the very first book, and I’m so happy we finally have their story.
Overall, I loved almost every second of it. Waters has definitely become a favorite author for me, and I can’t wait to see what she is going to pursue now that this series is over.
As Usual, Martha Waters KILLS it with her quirky, funny, and entertaining writing style and plot. I will greatly miss the Regency Vows series and the characters I have gotten to meet and love here. Someone get this woman a Netflix adaptation like Bridgerton!!
