Martha Waters has done it again! No one captures that modern-feeling historical romance quite like her! I would follow her anywhere!
Oh my heart! I have been waiting nearly four years for Sophie and West's book. And I can say with absolute certainty that this by far my favorite in the series, taking the spot from To Have and To Hoax. Sophie and West's tragic heartbreak at the start of the story is so hard to read. But boy do I love the drama and situation it presents for these two.
Sophie, love after my own heart, is so determined to take care of everyone else in her family that she neglects her own feelings so often. It was so hard to read that part of her story. As someone who does that a lot, it's hard to see it and realize how it's coming off towards others. I'm glad that Sophie has come to terms with that part of herself and realizes she needs to do things for herself finally. I will say it comes on a bit quickly, this revelation. But it doesn't take away too much from me overall.
West is absolutely wonderful in this story. I truly loved him more than anything else I can possibly say. His determination to prove to Sophie how much he loves her feels reminiscent of The Notebook, but in a much healthier way.
I will say the surprise marriage at the end was such a good twist I should have seen coming but didn't. I am sad this series is over as there are so many characters I wish had more book time. Sophie's whole family is wonderful and I honestly could have read all of their stories and been so perfectly content. Harriet and Betsy added so much comic relief to the serious moments of the stories. But on top of that, I loved Alexandra and her desire to take care of Sophie in the way Sophie has taken care of her. It was a beautiful story of sisters. They really gave me an air of the Bennett sisters in their own unique way.
I loved this book so much and I will probably need to reread the whole series over again so I can fully appreciate it's amazing-ness.
I would like to preface this review by saying that I had no idea that this book was the final installment of a series when I first started reading it. I’m not really sure how I missed that little tidbit, but I don’t feel like I really missed out on anything plot-wise by skipping straight to the end of the series.
This book is a light and quick read. It’s definitely not the most historically accurate as far as language and general human interactions go, but I did not mind at all. I actually enjoyed that the women in the story had more autonomy than would have been allowed otherwise. The premise of lovers who became estranged and then could possibly become lovers again really drew me in. I’m usually more of an enemies to lovers kind of person, but second chance romance has a special place in my heart. I definitely laughed out loud at multiple points of the book, the banter was just that good. The longing between the two main characters was palpable and made the ending worth waiting for. While the arguments between the couple did feel repetitive at times and the stakes were fairly low, the characters themselves were so likable that I could get past it. I do wish the ruse itself had been more central to the plot and a little more fleshed out, but I was really rooting for the couple and their happiness. If you’re looking for a lighthearted and more modern take on a Bridgerton-esque story, then definitely give this series (or at least this book) a try. I give it 4 stars overall and one 🌶️ when it comes to spice.
If you’re a stickler for historical accuracy and dislike modern takes on older tropes, this is not for you.
very solid 4.5⭐️ this was my favorite of the entire Regency Vows series!! i'm a sucker for a second chance romance so i was hooked on this one before i even started reading it. the chemistry between West and Sophie is wonderful and having a supporting cast that we’ve spent four prior books getting to know helped make the world feel real and fleshed out. i’m actually bummed that this is the last we’ll see of our regency vows crew!
To woo and to wed was an OK book. I had to force myself through this one. The flow of the story was hard to follow sometimes with the time jump and it would take a few to realize what happened.
Second chance romance is not a favorite trope of mine, but I had been curious about this series. I still want to read through the other 3 but I didn't finish the first one so I don't have high hopes. I do like other historical romance books.
I ended up not finishing it at 46 percent.
To Woo and to Wed by Martha Waters is the perfect ending to a spectacular series! I have enjoyed each and every book in the Regency Vows series and this final installment did not disappoint. The humor was onpoint and the banter was swoonworthy! Sad to see the series end.
4.5 ⭐️ for my favorite and most anticipated in the series!!!
absolutely ADORED this book + how it represents the meaningfulness of forgiveness and the ANGST was so so so good. Thank you NetGalley + the publishing team for the ARC! What a spectacular end to the series!

What Worked
Ah, this series has had my heart since day one! I fell hard for the cast of characters, Waters’ writing style, and the zany
antics that make these books so much fun! And this book is no exception! The final book of the series features the two dark horses, Sophie and West, that most of us have been wondering about, eager to see them reunited. And the situation they find themselves in (a fake engagement) is a new plot device for Waters and a super fun one at that! And because the characters were once nearly engaged there’s immediately a tension of will they/won’t they fall back in love! All the while, their friends are the glue that holds everything together, adding to the hilarity of it all!
What Didn’t Work
Not much! At this point, I knew what to expect from Waters, so I fully expected the miscommunication tropes and other plot devices she uses to ratchet up the tension and heartache needed to achieve a satisfying resolution. I will say this book has a little more spice than some of the others, but, again, I’ve grown used to her open-door scenes. They are still tasteful, with mostly period-appropriate descriptions/dialogue and minimal smut. But that still may be a turn-off for some.
Read This If
Anyone who loves falling hard for a cast of friends who love and support each other will enjoy this fun, warmhearted series!
This is the final installment and a great ending to The Regency Vows series! West and Sophie fell in love when they were young and on the verge of marriage, but a terrible accident and meddling, broke them up. It's years later now and as West and Sophie (and the gang) all interact, some tenatively, until Sophie comes up with a plan to help her sister. It's great farce and as they spend time together, we start to learn what happened in the past, at the same time as West. Sophie held so much hurt in from trying to protect everyone she loves, and she's still doing it at her expense. Walls start breaking down, but as you think things will work out, another kink is thrown in that could ruin their last chance at happiness. This was my favorite in the series, although I missed book 4 somehow, but I will rectify that asap.
Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for sending me this eARC. All opinions are my own.
I have really enjoyed this historical romance series and am sad to see it finished. This is the fifth and final book in the Regency Vows series and we are finally getting the Marquess of Weston and Lady Fitzwilliam Bridewell's story. I am not normally a fan of second chance romances but this one worked for me. Wes and Sophie are thrown together because of their mutual friends but are hiding a secret that they used to be engaged many years ago, but when tragedy strikes the couple break it off. Now years later the two seem to still have all the chemistry that they did before and wonder if they can maybe be together again. I love Martha Water's writing, it is always fun and engaging. Thank you Atria for my gifted copy for review, this one came out in February so you can read it now!
Wonderful story for everyone to enjoy. I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely. Happy reading!
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an e-galley of To Woo and to Wed.
What a wonderful completion to Waters' series. I've been waiting for years to get Sophie and West's story and it did not disappoint.
Sophie and West have had a tumultuous past and it doesn't seem to be getting any easier for either of them. An accident 7 years ago tore them apart, and making amends does not appear to be going well. As their friends try to circumspectly coax them into each other's orbits, Sophie and West are hell bent on fighting it every step of the way. Will they be able to get their happily ever after? Or does fate have other plans for them?
5! Excellent ending to this amazing series. These characters' stories were one of my most highly anticipated and it did not let me down. I highly recommend this historical romance series!
I very much enjoyed this! We can't let meddling fathers prevent us from true love (!!) and the characters in this story prove love lasts even through what can be dire situations. I've thoroughly enjoyed ever book in this series and I can't wait to see what Waters writes next.
Martha Water's 'To Woo and to Wed' is an absolute delight to read! With its charming characters, witty dialogue, and heartwarming plot, this book is a true gem in the world of romance novels. The author's storytelling is captivating, drawing the reader in from the very first page and keeping them hooked until the very end. I found myself rooting for the characters, laughing at their antics, and sighing with contentment at the beautiful love story that unfolds. I absolutely love the “fake-relationship-to-love” trope and Waters’ pulls it off flawlessly. If you're looking for a feel-good, romantic read that will leave you grinning from ear to ear, 'To Woo and to Wed' is the perfect choice. Highly recommended!

I think I have managed to read this entire series as galleys! I was excited about finally getting the completion of this series. As usual, this is a fun, light, regency romance. I enjoyed getting the story from both characters point of view. As mentioned previously, I feel the West was way to quick to forgive every time his heart was broken, but they end up together in the end!
Such a wonderful conclusion to this fabulous story. I have been quietly anticipating this story from the very start. Sophie & West are such compelling characters and it was so clear that they were still mad for each other. Clearly they came with a lot of baggage and I appreciated the back and forth from present day to past tense story to clear up all the misunderstandings. There were so many things that seemed relatable but the one that really tickled me was Sophie’s sisters arrival and the butler announcing them to the response, “I do not think we need announcing. We are family!” And Sophie’s understated response, “Why does this sound like a threat?!”. It was such a perfect picture of that precious sibling bond, you love them but also want to strangle them at times. This group of friends and family have such a tender care for one another and it is simply heartwarming. I absolutely adore the steadfastly stable West, his affection was never-ending and his determination was fabulous. A truly wonderful story of second chance love and building new beginnings.
To Woo and To Wed is the final installment in Martha Waters' Regency Vows series. I am sure everyone was clamoring for a West and Sophie book, and now it is here.
Unfortunately, I struggled through this. I love Water's dialogue. I always find her banter delicious, but this felt overly repetitive. Also, I did not like Sophie at all. I cannot believe that West ever took her back. She broke his heart over and over again throughout this, and it was infuriating.
Surprisingly, I struggled with the dual timeline. I usually need it in a second-chance romance for the story to be successful, but here, readers don't get their initial love story, just their breakup. It created pacing issues, and I failed to care about them as a couple.
I did enjoy the disability representation.
I fear I am going to say what I have said for each of the other books I have read and reviewed in this series: cute but lacks depth. I ADORE second chance romance and this one had all of the pining and angst that I could have wanted. Even so, the book felt like it didn't do quite enough. The characters seemed like they had the same conversation over and over again without any resolution until the very end.
West and Sophie were fun. I loved reading from both POVs. I just think this could have actually done better if West had been a little angrier and more standoffish at the beginning and slowly melted back down. Instead, we see him act obviously into Sophie from the beginning while Sophie, who technically WAS in the wrong, gets off the hook and is the one holding everything back even after SEVEN YEARS!!! She should be begging West to marry her!!! Not the other way around!
Anyway, that's all to say, I enjoy these books! They're light and fun and full of banter. I love how much the MCs flirt and bicker. I would recommend to anyone that loves regency romance.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC!
It was… just okay. I did finish it, so I suppose that’s something. I feel like it needs another round of edits. Towards the beginning, I was confused as to what time period I was in - then or now. Then all of a sudden in the middle, you find out they had multiple chances to get together and didn’t. The whole plot was a bit bland and confusing, though I loved the characters. There needs to be more conflict between the two and from outside forces. The whole story felt a bit rushed and dragged out at the same time. It could be really, really good with some changes.
