"Veils and Vampires" by Cee Bee unfortunately falls short of its intriguing premise. While the concept of blending vampire lore with cultural elements is promising, the execution feels disjointed and lacks depth. The characters are underdeveloped and often one-dimensional, making it difficult to connect with their struggles and motivations. The pacing is uneven, with sections that drag on without adding meaningful context, and the dialogue often feels forced and cliched. Additionally, the plot twists are predictable, diminishing any suspense. Overall, while the book has potential, it ultimately leaves readers wanting more in terms of substance and engagement.

Ich weiß ehrlich gesagt nicht, wie ich dieses Buch bewerten soll, da ich es aufgrund relativ kurzer Ausleihdauer (ohne Verlängerung) nicht lesen konnte.

Thank you to Netgalley the Publisher, of Monster House Books, and the author Christina Bauer for providing and allowing me to review this book. Which, I'm giving my honest and sincere review.

"Veils and Vampires" by Christina Bauer is a captivating blend of romance, fantasy, and suspense that kept me enthralled from start to finish.
The novel introduces readers to Caelin MacGregor, an ancient king haunted by the loss of his vampire bride, Elisava, centuries ago. When he encounters Lexa, a human woman, he feels a stirring of desire and love that he thought was long lost. But as doubts arise about Lexa's true identity and intentions, Caelin finds himself torn between his newfound feelings and the specter of betrayal.

Meanwhile, Lexa is on a mission to save her sister, Sash, from the clutches of the New York Bratva. With a plan to assemble the pieces of the Veil Pendant, a magical artifact with the power to cure her sister and free her from her debts, Lexa embarks on a perilous journey filled with danger and deception.

As the story unfolds, secrets are revealed, alliances are tested, and forbidden love blossoms in the face of adversity. The chemistry between Caelin and Lexa is electric, adding an extra layer of tension and intrigue to the narrative.

Overall, "Veils and Vampires" is a thrilling and addictive read that will appeal to fans of paranormal romance and fantasy alike. Christina Bauer's imaginative world-building, complex characters, and fast-paced plot make for an engaging and unforgettable reading experience.

I was on the tour for book one and I was impatiently waiting to see when book two would come out or if another tour would be happening.

I was so excited to see this book land in my email. I needed to know what was going to happen immediately.

Now this is book two in a series so I don't want to talk too much and spoil book one.

I still love and adore all of the characters especially Lexa. She is the perfect badass heroine everyone wants to read about and the dark mysterious Caelin is also a great main character and I really enjoyed his pov in this story.

We start to learn a lot more about this world and how it works which I always enjoy.

If you're looking for a new series to check out this one is for you.

We are back with more of the Vampires of the Daemonverse. We get more of what was Caelin and what it is now. There was more Lexa. Romance. Action. Adventure. Drama. Oh, did I forget to say a little more intensity. It is short but you will feel a lot more. This was sisterly love at its height. How many can say their sister would take on the mob, darkness, and possible dooms to the world. I ready for more. This was just that extra piece I wanted.

Thank you to Netgally, the publishers, and Cee Bee

When I requested this book I was unaware that it was apart of a series, one that requires you to read the previous books for this one to make sense. I am unable to read all the previous books along with this one before the publish date. Therefore, I will rate this a fair 3/5 stars and will adjust the rating and review when I am able to read all the books in the series along with this one.

This second installment of the Vampires of the Daemonverse series was an excellent continuation. It was full of danger and adventure. It picks up exactly where the last book left off and giving readers a scene from the past to help get you on track.

The story becomes more in depth as it proceeds into the modern world. Pyri is on the verge of getting everything she wants and so much more. Secret players reveal themselves and the sisters embark on the truth that has been hidden from them. Sash gets sicker and sicker and her sister Lexa is desperate to find a solution to heal her.

The danger is higher in this book and the adventure is around every corner. Caelin is a man on a mission and that just happens to be Lexa. It was an exciting read and I could not put it down. I love the mix of old world and new world in this book. It was a unique and different tale. Very unexpected and interesting characters. This book wraps up pretty well, but I don't think this is the last of the fire elementals rein.

4/5✨

I have to start my review stating that I received an advanced reader copy through NetGalley.

This book had it all and I truly enjoyed myself the entire time!! I highly suggest this series!!

“Caelin MacGregor is an ancient king with a new love
Ages ago, I ruled a clan of vampire raiders. We were allies to the Vikings and enemies of the Rus. That life ended when the bloodkin plague wiped out all our women, including my beloved vampire bride, Elisava. A thousand years have passed. My heart remains empty. Then I see a human woman named Lexa. For the first time in ages, I feel true desire, respect and love. Could Lexa actually be a lost bloodkin lady ... or is she a horrible trick from Pyri, the ancient fire goddess of the Rus raiders?”

“Lexa Uznetsov has a plan
To save my sister, Sash, I took on my father's debt to Konstantin the Rus, leader of the New York Bratva. As a result, my life became a never-ending (and incredibly illegal) stakeout for the mob. After years of scheming, I've finally come up with a solid escape plan: find all three pieces of the infamous Veil Pendant. Once I reassemble this magical item, I'll have the power to cure my sister ... as well as the ability to say buh-bye to Konstantin. Sure, legends warn that reforming the Veil Pendant may bring about some nastiness called Pyri's doomsday. Yet if it saves Sash, I'm willing to risk anything.”

Thank you Netgalley and Monster House books for the e-arc!
Let's just talk about how absolutely stunning these covers are! The art is so beautiful and definitely was one of the reasons I was interested in this book. So glad to say that the content is just as awesome as the cover. This has so many amazing scenes such as vampires, mates, dual POV, and an amazing spicy romance. I also was confused about the order of the series but once I figured that out I really enjoyed the plot and the characters.

I absolutely love me a good vampire, fated mates story and this one hit those sweet spots for me.
This series continues to shine and bring me back craving more of Lexa. We really got to see her come in to herself in this book and develop more of who she is at her core.

This book is a perfect mix of action packed fantasy, mature romance, spicy interactions, and intriguing plot. This is NOT a standalone and you really should read book #1 before getting into this story if you want to understand at all what is going on.

I'm excited to see where book #3 goes and I hope that it continues to elevate my expectations!

This book was so fun to dive into. It was interesting, the pacing was much better than book one, and overall I found the story more interesting!

I enjoyed the dual POV of this book, I found in parts it definitely helped having the two perspectives but there were some spots that it hindered the story a little bit! I love the fated lovers trope in this and it was probably my favourite part of the book next to the characters and their chemistry.

The spice was a little too quick for me and I found it moved to fast compared to the rest of the story, but overall it was really fun and the author does a great job at writing the chemistry between the characters.

Thank you NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Veils and Vampires picks up right where we left off in the previous book, offering both a glimpse into the past to enrich the series' overarching plot and a return to the lives of Lexa, Sash, Caelin, and the others. This book is brimming with peril and adventure. I'm really loving this take on vampires and the intricately crafted universe within Veils and Vampires left me captivated.

Lexa's unwavering determination to care for her sister, Sash, drives the narrative. With Sash's health deteriorating rapidly due to her dwindling medication, Lexa embarks on a mission to save her. Her quest hinges on finding the enigmatic Gray Woman, the key to her sister's salvation. Lexa's journey is a perilous one, but she refuses to be deterred. I will say, I did like her character a lot more in this book.

Alongside her, King Caelin has his own mission—to lead an army in the rescue of his friend Hunter's fated mate, Fifeur, who's been cruelly imprisoned in a hidden dungeon.

Although, I did enjoy this much more than the first book, feel like there are so many unanswered questions, which isn't necessarily a bad thing! I'm hoping we get some of them answered in the next book which I'm eagerly waiting for!

If you're looking for a new twist on vampires, don't miss your chance to delve into this riveting tale!

Book number two in a series is the pivotal book for an author which makes or breaks the success of the series. For me, this was exactly how I expected it to be, which was fantastic as always when it comes to writing from Christina.

It took me about 50 pages to realize this was the second book in a series and backtracked to read the first, then pick Veils and Vampires back up. If you enjoyed the first book, then I think you'd enjoy this one as well. It is evident to me that Cee Bee is a master of world building and creating an exiting and luxurious setting.

Unfortunately, the plot fell a little short for me. It didn't feel like a ton happened in this book, more that it filled in missing gaps from the first book in the series and set up the next book to take off.

I read an ARC copy of the book, and it did seem like there may have needed to be another round of editing before this gets into everyone's hands, and based on a message from the author, that seems to be the case, which is good!

I'm grateful to NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Veils and Vampires!

It was a little difficult to read due to being #2 in a series, I haven't read book #1. There were many characters to keep straight and the settling was a bit chaotic. Refining the world building and character development could make it make sense a bit more. But the overall story has great potential.

It was pretty good! I wish the world was a bit fuller and the characters were explored more. The emphasis was definitely on the story. The story was interesting, but the characters in it fell flat and the world wasn't super immersive. The pace was great though and I would read more from this author.

This was such a wonderful and enjoyable read!!!! I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre. Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Veils and Vampires was paced more evenly than Violins and Vampires. But, I wish it was a bit longer. I easily got through it in less than a day.

Lexa certainly seems to come into her own, getting more comfortable with her abilities and who she is throughout the story.

We still don’t have an answer to just how much Mom/Anya knows about their pasts. As Lexa says, “this is either the deepest truth she’s ever kept or a mammoth whopper of a lie.” My money’s on the latter, but I could be wrong.

Nor do we get any additional information about the Gray Woman’s motives or plans. She only mentioned in this installment; we don’t actually get to “see” her.

There are many unanswered questions at the end of Veils and Vampires. I hope we get some of them answered when book 3 is released. I look forward to it.

I have to note that the ARC I received was full of errors. However, I was informed that it went through a final edit prior to publication, so I won’t take a star off my score.

In general, it’s a good second installment to the series.

I was granted complimentary access to Veils and Vampires by Cee Bee as part of my participation in a blog tour for this title with Xpresso Book Tours. Thank you to all involved in affording me this opportunity! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.

I'm a huge fan of the more YA oriented fantasy books published by Christina Bauer and I've promoted both of these Vampires of the Daemonverse titles by "Cee Bee" on my blog before knowing exactly who this was, but for some reason I never took the opportunity to read and review before now. I'm not sure why! I wanted to say a huge thank you to Cee Bee for ensuring that both titles were available for review with this title so that fans like me could catch up.

Veils and Vampires is a continuation of the story developed in Violins and Vampires, opening with a blast from the past that gives us more insight on the series plot arch and some of the characters, but then quickly brings us back to where we last saw Lexa, Sash, Caelin, and the rest. Lexa has mastered her skill of influence and she can be found winning the crowd's favour at a strip club owned by her boss for a decent amount of cash, but she's wants out. She wants to save her sister, learn more about whatever secrets her mother has clearly been hiding, and break free of Konstantin the Rus. And she has a plan!

This book is full of action and wit, both things I've come to love when reading this author, with a tone that's a little more mature and spicy. I'm not usually an adult-category romance reader as highly detailed boudoir scenes usually aren't my thing, but that's not a concern with these books. Although details do get explicit here and there, the amount of detail is conservative and presented in a way that isn't vulgar.

I loved all of the further development we got for our familiar characters, both on Lexa's side of the game and Caelin's, and I feel like we're really starting to see where this series is headed. If only Lexa knew all of what the reader knows about the Gray Lady, right? But she's beginning to understand exactly what sort of world she was born into, and what sort of people she's been involuntarily working for.

I can't wait to continue reading this series! Definitely read this series in order, and do it now before book three comes out so that you're ready!
