I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.
My only problem with this book is that it's way too short. The ideas are great, the pictures and instructions are wonderful, it's a very creative book. I just think the author has so much more in them. But it's a great starter Halloween cookbook for kids and their families.
This book is so cute! I love Halloween and making special Halloween themed treats for that day so I was really interested to see what cool recipes the author featured in this cookbook. I loved how easy the recipes featured in this cookbook were and how anyone could make them with the right ingredients. I will definitely be recreating many of the cool treats from this cookbook for this Halloween and am excited to see how they come out! I would definitely recommend this cookbook to anyone looking to make Halloween fun by making the recipes from this cookbook.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This was an interesting read on making Halloween and holiday treats. If you really love holidays or Halloween and fall especially this would be a good read or gift for someone in a family or planner.
This is an incredible cookbook with lots of cute Halloween ideas. All recipes are well set out and easy to follow. I cannot wait to try out some of the recipes
This book has some simple Halloween themed recipes but it is not very long so there’s not a lot of variety. It only has about 7 recipes which are common in a lot of Halloween cookbooks. The details are cute but not so cute they’d justify paying so much for a handful of recipes that could easily be found on any parenting blog on the internet for free. Perhaps pick it up from the library to introduce your kiddo to cookbooks, and then move them up to a bigger tome.
This would be a fun book for families with children which I suspect is the target audience. It does not include recipes that would appeal to an adult cook, but I feel it does a fine job as its intended child focused purpose.
Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I love making festive treats. This book has so many cute ideas that I can't wait to try.
Great ideas to try out. Perfect for Halloween. Lots of different ideas to try out, with great instructions that are easy to follow
Some fun Halloween treat ideas. Best for younger children who want to have their very first Halloween party.
This was a cute collection of halloween themed recipes. They were almost targeted for children to be able to follow along with their adult supervision. A nice range of food items to make.
This was a NetGalley review.
Halloween Treats to Make and Bake by Ruth Owen opens with a mini history of Halloween as well as tips for a safe and successful time in the kitchen.
The author includes a section on common utensils that might be needed in these recipes and clear explanations of terms used in cooking.
This is a simple step-by-step cookbook, well-written for the beginning junior chef. The author selected fun and seasonally relevant recipes such as ghost-shaped chips with corn and black bean dip, Halloween pumpkin soup and sweets like the candy eyeball cakes. Since this is a short (32 pages) cookbook, all the recipes can easily be made as families prepare to celebrate October/Halloween.
Thanks to Rosen Publishing Group, Ruth Owen and NetGalley for this ARC.
Halloween is the perfect holiday to cook savory and sweet snacks, and this cookbook has lots of options for both. Children and their grownups will find this book to be very inviting with colorful pictures and easy step by step instructions. The recipes were popular options, with healthy choices, such as a corn salsa and "ghost" tortilla chips. I loved the cute ideas and look forward to trying these with my children next fall. Highly recommended for schools and libraries!
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own opinions.
I really enjoyed both the ease and how detailed the recipes are. The little nutrition facts are also a fun addition. It's very cute food for a spooky time.
Well I was very late getting to this for its 2023 publication, but something tells me there will still be a Hallow-e'en in years to come. This is a tidy little spread of kitchen crafts to do with a seasonal focus. First we have what is basically a toffee apple with decorations, which takes four pages, then a full spread that serves as a reminder to roast and eat the seeds from any carved-out pumpkins. All children should be OK enough in the kitchen to rustle up cookies, and we're shown what it is like to snap gingerbread men into bits and present them as war-damaged zombies and so on. The same cookie dough, when made into sausage-shaped bits, can be wrapped up as witch fingers. And so it goes – very simply-done stuff, very child-friendly and safety-conscious of course – we get just a few short ideas here, with some added trivia that helps justify all of this malarkey in the first place. For how little there is here, there is little in the way of flaws, so probably four stars is the logical result.
I got this after Halloween but I am already excited for next Halloween to do a lot of these ideas with my four by then five year old. He is so excited to do so many of these and they all are super easy and do able, definitely recommend.
Halloween Treats to Make and Bake is a very short cookbook geared towards children and getting them involved in cooking or baking. Potential readers should be aware that there are less than ten recipes, which is a manageable amount for teaching children. From an economical standpoint, the price of the cookbook is not worth the usability. Kids will have fun making the recipes, but the novelty will wear off fast.
The cookbook has an introduction into why we celebrate Halloween, as well as tips and techniques for success. The recipes are few, which I have listed below.
Crunchy, Crazy Caramel Apples
Salty, Snacking Pumpkin Seeds
Gruesome Cookie People
Witch's Finger Cookies
Halloween Soup
Candy Eyeball Cakes
Corn and Black Bean Dip with Tortilla Chips
The cookbook is colorful, with ingredients shown in printed and picture form. Overall, Halloween Treats to Make and Bake is a fun cookbook, but there is simply just not enough here.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this cookbook was entirely my own.
A cute cookbook for aspiring young chefs/bakers. I did not know this was going to be geared towards kids, It is a pretty short basic kids cookbook. It definitely has a more retro style than I thought and it reminds me of my elementary school textbooks. Overall the look could have been more creative and not used basic looking stock images, but for a kids perspective it may be more appropriate. Recipes are good and has some great fun facts. I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Halloween Treats to Make and Bake is a Halloween cookbook designed for children between the ages of eight and eleven years old. Having said that, however, the recipes are designed to be easy and kid friendly, but not to be made alone by the children; adults need to be present during the preparation of the dishes, since knives are needed, as well as a stove and oven.
There is some important information and cooking tips for kids (and every cook for that matter) that will help to make the recipes that follow turn out successfully. The recipes are written in a format that is very easy-to-understand and includes step-by-step instructions.
The cookbook is very colorful, and includes adorable illustrations as well as beautiful, professional photographs of every recipe. It is actually enjoyable to read, both by adults and children.
This fun book contains only seven recipes. And while they are cute and very apropos for Halloween, it is amazing that something offering so little could actually be published as a book. It isn’t actually a book, rather a small handout in book form. The recipes aren’t particularly innovative or new; similar recipes can be found in every Halloween cookbook out there (books that contain dozens of recipes as opposed to this with so few).
All told, this cookbook really isn’t worth purchasing; the book is overpriced as to what you actually get. Most people will want to purchase a Halloween cookbook with enough recipes that kids can choose from several recipes.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
This is a small cookbook perfect for the Halloween cooking season. It is a wonderful family-time cookbook for fun cooking. The recipes are delicious too. If you want a caramel apple you have a recipe for that with a spooky monster twist. Kids will love it. Check it out for sweet and savory treats that will work for a Halloween time meal or party. WOW! The photos are great in this book. The glossary and recipe index will be helpful too. Take on this cookbook with great creations for fun as well as a learning time. The instructions in this book are easy to follow with great step-by-step details and you get an introduction to basic cooking. The techniques are introduced quickly and the supply list is right there for easy preparation. This is a great Halloween activity for the family and you get yummy treats too. This is not only perfect for Halloween it is a fantastic way to start learning to be cooks and bakers.
Yummy! I enjoyed the section explaining why we celebrate Halloween. It gave top tips for cooks, ingredients lists, as well as the equipment needed for each treat. There is also historical information throughout.
