3.5 rounded up for the Christmas spirit and humor.
Premise - Eve catches her longterm boyfriend, Chris, in a compromising position during the holiday season. Heartbroken, she finds herself thrown together with Joe, a sweet, somewhat lost, guy her employers want her to end up with. Hijinks ensue.
The opening of this was hilarious and there were some lines that made me laugh out loud. Joe was also a great MMC and easy to root for - one of my favorite MMCs yet!
The downfall of the book was the middle. It’s pretty instalove, as is usually the case for Christmas romances (the season isn’t all that long) but I wouldn’t have minded that if it weren’t for the fact that Eve spends a really big chunk of the falling-in-love fun and games completely trashed! It was hard to root for shenanigans she’s not even fully aware for.
The excessive drinking and the fact that this was more of a drunken rebound story (that ended in a truly strange choice of epilogue) than a love story held it back from its really great potential. Pity!
Disclaimer: I’m not a binge drinker, so maybe I just didn’t find that relatable and maybe I underestimated her faculties while completely sloshed? Either way, I enjoyed it more once she dried out a bit again and I wish that would have happened sooner.
Thanks, NetGalley and Storm Publishing, for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
