Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
What a beautiful, touching book that is SO inclusive of the ways families come to be. I will absolutely be giving this gift to friends in the future.
A cute story about welcoming a new baby. A good baby shower gift. I wish it featured older children so it could be a big sibling gift too.
We're Happy You're Here is a sweet and inclusive picture book that shows the different ways families can look, that babies are brought into the world with science and love, and so often have whole communities around them. The art is cute and accessible. It's pretty short and simple, but it's still very sweet, and it has lots of queer, disability, and POC rep in it. Recommended!
This is a cute picture book about all kinds of families and the ways in which children come to a family. It is inclusive so no one is left out. this is whether through adoption, surrogacy, medical help, or the traditional way. Children will love looking at the pictures and telling the story of how their family came to be .
As a children's librarian, I would definitely recommend this book to parents to want to show children a diversity of families. It would also be a good introduction to teaching children the variety of way that a baby can come into the world. The book has beautiful watercolor illustrations that show people with a variety of skin tones, abilities, and familial structures. There is very little text on each page, in order to keep the focus on the illustrations. Also, the author has included a useful list of discussion questions for adults to talk about with children. I would say that this would be a nice read-aloud for children between the ages of 3-6.
I read a lot of fiction and I'm a huge fan of family representation and dynamics, so this one was truly amazing for me. Family forms in today's society are changing and that's a fact. The story in itself is about welcoming a new addition to a family, not a very complex one if I many say so. But what really grabbed my attention was the beautiful illustrations! Brady is a brilliant artist and did a great job creating drawing with vivid colors and subtle details that anyone will love. 10/10 must have, do buy this for yourself and your loved ones.
A new baby is a joyful experience for many. This book portrays that feeling beautifully while showing many ways of being a family. It may be the most inclusive picture book I have read on this topic. “We’re Happy You’re Here” would be a great gift for any new baby and/or new caregiver.
This is a sweet book about all the different ways babies come to be, and regardless of how, they are so loved. It was a quick and to the point read and I enjoyed it.
i'm tearing up :")

thank you to Julie Wilkins and the team for providing this arc
Many babies are born through a wide variety of methods these days and this little book addresses a lot of those ways. The diverse families shown in the illustrations are sure to please little ones of any background. How wonderful the world has books like this which show children others just like themselves. Also, this would be a very good gift for expecting families.
This is a very sweet children's book for young children! It shows families getting ready for their new human, and the journeys they took to get there. I think both families and children will enjoy this simple read.
The illustrations are a delight and for me, the highlight of the book. They are one of the most modern depictions of families that I've seen in children's books, with parents that actually look like they are from my generation. The only thing I wished the pictures would have included was more body size diversity.
I really enjoyed reading We’re Happy You’re Here by Julie Wilkins! The illustration is very inclusive of numerous family dynamics, and I don’t think there was anything missed at all, AMAZING JOB, Brady Sato.
The message is touching to adults and will also resonate with children, expressing the excitement of their presence. The backstory and inspiration is what really intrigued me about this book, as it is an ode to Julie’s friends who became parents via surrogacy. Everyone’s journey to parenthood looks different and despite those differences, bringing in a new life into any family is worth celebrating!
As someone who is on a personal IVF journey, this is a book that I will have in my future child’s library and I’m excited to purchase a hard copy when it’s available next year! I encourage you to include it with baby shower gifts, as you celebrate your loved ones and how happy you are to have them here! :-)
