The Night of the Sleepover by Kerry Wilkinson and Narrated by Olivia Darnely was excellent and was an addictive psychological thriller which was filled with great twists and turns that had you gripped on the edge of your seat. This was an audiobook that just kept on giving, Kerry has away of bringing his audience into the story and every book I have read or listened to has never disappointed, this book was no different.
I am looking forward to his next book especially as this book The night of the Sleepover is the first book in the new series Sleepover.
I highly recommend this book and the Narrator Olivia Darnely was excellent.
Big thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Leah and her three friends were the best of friends when one evening at a sleepover, four went to bed, but only one woke up. Leah’s three friends disappeared in the middle of the night and have never been seen since.
Twenty years on, she still hears locals saying she must know what happened that fateful night. One of the girls younger brother, Owen is a filmmaker and is determined to find some answers.
A gripping psychological thriller, wouldn’t expect any less from Kerry Wilkinson. The story builds up into a page turning conclusion, where secrets are revealed and the truth is finally discovered. I really liked Leah’s character, and you really felt for everything she has endured, spurring on her need to find the truth. I can’t wait to read the sequel ‘After the Sleepover’.
Four girls close their eyes. Only one wakes up.
Leah and she are having a sleepover after a fun evening they go to sleep, but the next morning, when Leah wakes, she sees three empty sleeping bags. The other girls are gone.
Twenty years later, a documentary is being made about the night Leah’s friends disappeared, but someone knows what happened the night of the sleepover. Will she find out what happened to her friends ?
I had a great time reading this it was a gripping thriller that kept me guessing till the end. I listened to the audio for this, and it was easy to listen to and follow the story.
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture, and Kerry Wilkinson for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The Night of the Sleepover is out now.
I...did not like this one. I can't tell you if it was the narrator or the story, but I could not stay into it.
A well-written thriller filled with unreliable narrators all telling their version of an event that is any parent’s nightmare - the disappearance of their children.
Leah’s thoughts get more confused and you really sympathise with her; the tortured thoughts she has about being the one left behind.
The twist punches you right in the gut, when it comes.
The narration was very good. The narrator had the right type of voice for this and I could picture Leah and her thoughts through the speaking.
A great book!
Looking forward to the sequel.
Four friends that fall asleep at a sleepover, but only one of them is there in the morning. What happened to the other three girls!?
This book is presented in two timelines, the present, and twenty years later where one of the missing girls brothers is filming a documentary about the night of the sleepover, that slowly uncovers the truth. In the meantime, unsettling anonymous emails arrive in Leah's inbox, urging her to "stop them." These messages suggest that someone is determined to keep the past hidden.
After the twists and turns you will NOT see the end coming.
The sleepover is book #1 and there will be a sequel. The end of this book was not left open ended to pave the way for the next one. Readers gets a definite answer to what happened to the 3 friends still, I am interested to see where the author takes these characters and the next book.
The audio narration was great as well.
I highly recommend!
Have to admit the twist at the end was very unexpected! I did find the book quite a slow build up so it took me quite a while to get through and then all of a sudden the ending was very abrupt!
This was a great story but I think I'd rather read it than listen to it. That's just personal preference for my books.
I truly enjoyed the "And then there was one" plot. Leah and her three best friends are having a sleepover. Lots of laughter, pizza and sneaking some booze. But when Leah wakes up the next morning, she is alone in the room.
It is now twenty years since the mysterious disappearance and a brother of one of the missing girls comes to film a documentary.
Very hard to put down. Trying to solve the mystery as you go. Sometimes you have more questions than answers.
I am fan of Kerry Wilkinson writing, pulls you in from the very beginning. When I found out there will be a sequel I was so excited.
I love a good mystery thriller through the medium of an audiobook, you really get a feeling of the characters. There was so many twists and turns, and what a shock ending. I was following the drama until about 75% of the way through and I then struggled with the ending… it was of course a shock but it seemed quick abrupt. I love the premise, and knowing there is a sequel, it will help answer the questions I have from this book. If you’re looking for a twisty turner thriller with a mind blowing ending, this is your kind of book. 🤯
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this AAC!
This was a fun read, interesting enough, and the ultimate reveal at the end was a nice turn. The entire time I kept thinking...how was the author going to pull this off? How was he going to explain how 3 out of 4 girls actually vanished after a night of sleepover? Better yet, how was he going to build a world where there was one girl left alive and not knowing what actually happened?
Oh, but he did. He was able to round this out nicely. The more I listened to this audiobook, the more I wanted the author to tell me already how the heck did all this happened. I was definitely impatient to get there, which meant there wasn't a character that I had my heart set on. The MC Leah wasn't as likable as I thought she would be, but I didn't mind it so much. Actually, there wasn't a truly likable character, but the plot was enough to make it a fun read.
Reading Between the Wines book review #126/115(met goal in Sept!) for 2023:
Rating: 4 ½ 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book: The Night of the Sleepover
Author: Kerry Wilkinson
Available Now!!
Sipping thoughts: Oh wow! What did I just read…in a good way! I was not expecting that. One of my worries as a parent is having my kids go to a sleepover. I have had to let go of the reigns a little bit but I am always thinking of the many things that could go wrong. Just like Leah and her three friend’s parents. Imagine your child goes to a sleepover and three of the girls just vanish into thin air. It has been twenty years and there have not been any real leads. I was floored with what really happened. And then when I thought it was over, there was more to come! Kerry Wilkinson did it again!
Cheers and thank you to @BookoutureAudio and @Netgalley for an advanced copy of @TheNightOfTheSleepover.

I enjoyed the audio version of this is added an extra dimension to the story and again I got wrapped into the story and want to know what happens next. This author never disappoints and the narrator was brilliant.
I was given an advance copy by bookouture audio and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.
A brilliant premise, a well executed plot and a satisfying conclusion! I was hooked from the first page and flew through this thriller, it did not disappoint. I was dying to know the truth of what happened to the 3 missing girls and was questioning absolutely everything. The narrator was really easy to listen to and held my attention throughout. Thank you netgalley, publisher, and author for my ARC audio in exchange for an honest review.
A fun, entertaining read about 4 friends that fall asleep at a sleepover, but only one of them is there in the morning. What happened to the 3 other girls?
This book goes back and forth between the present - 20 years later where one of the missing girls brothers is filming a documentary about that night - and the night of the sleepover - where we slowly uncover what happened. This was super entertaining and propulsive with some fun twists and turns at the end.
I see that this is book #1 and there will be a sequel - this book didn't end on a cliffhanger and the reader gets a definitive answer to what happened to the 3 friends so I am interested to see where the author takes these characters and this story next. The audio narration was great and I will absolutely check out more of this author's backlist!
If you like a good mystery, this story is for you. It is told from Leah's point of view. When she was 15 years old, she wen to a slepover at a friend's house, with two other friends. The night included vodka and pizza. When Leah woke up in thenext morning, her 3 friends were gone. This mystery remained unresolved for 24 years. Now, the brother of one of the missing girls decides to make a documentary about the mysterious disappearance of these 3 girls. And this is where the real action begins. Why when there is something big, like 3 missing girls, no one focuses on the little things? What happened that night in 1999? Obviously, you will have to read it. :-)
I liked the author's fluid writing, and the ending surprised me. Curious to know what else will be to talk about in volume two, as in the end of the book the author promises that this story will continue...

So excited that this is the first book and there is a second book (After the Sleepover) coming out later this year. I expected part of the ending of this book but the other part completely surprised me and I can't wait to see how this plays out. I liked the alternating timelines, learning little tidbits about the original sleepover night, while learning the real-time clues was fun.
Olivia Darnley did a great job narrating this novel and I hope Olivia narrates the second novel as well.
This is the first instalment of a 2 book series. Interesting blurb. It was really slow paced for me an a little repetitive throughout. It did get interesting for the last 20% but it’s a little too late at that stage. It lacked action and excitement throughout and wasn’t eventful at all and that’s what keeps me engaged. I can’t say I overly cared for any of the characters, I just didn’t feel I got to know them. I am intrigued for the next instalment.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review #TheNightOFTheSleepover
This was a suspenseful book. It makes you want to keep going to get resolution. You'll never guess the ending, and I love the fact. twisty turns at the end of the book. It's told in a dual timeline. It got rather confusing with the 3 missing girls in the earlier timeline, kind of hard to keep track of who and what they did. I listened to this audio book, very easy to listen to at 2x the speed. The narrator did a very nice job with the book. I will definitely be seeking out more books by this author. Oh, and there is going to be a sequel to this book in December! Thanks Net Galley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to listen to this one.
Trigger warning: Domestic abuse

Kerry Wilkinson's "Sleepover #1: The Night of the Sleepover" is a psychological thriller that explores the mysteries of the past and the lasting impact of secrets.
The story kicks off with a captivating premise: Leah and her three closest friends decide to have a slumber party filled with laughter, pizza, and teenage antics. However, the following morning, Leah awakens to find herself alone, with her friends inexplicably gone. Fast forward two decades, and Leah is still grappling with the unanswered questions and the whispers that have haunted her since that mysterious night. A documentary is in the works to uncover the truth, but unsettling anonymous emails arrive in Leah's inbox, urging her to "stop them." These messages suggest that someone is determined to keep the past hidden.
The book has received diverse reviews, and it's easy to see why. Kerry Wilkinson has a talent for crafting a suspenseful and fast-paced plot that keeps readers engaged. The enigma surrounding the sleepover and the anonymous emails create a sense of urgency and intrigue that propels the narrative forward. Nevertheless, the ending may be polarizing for some readers, as it takes unexpected turns that not everyone might appreciate.
The characters, particularly Leah, are thoughtfully developed, and the dual timeline narration adds depth to the story, enabling readers to understand how the past has shaped the characters' lives. Leah's personal growth and her relationships with those around her are notable elements of the story.
One aspect that could be improved is that the novel tends to drag in certain parts, with occasional repetition that could have been condensed to maintain a more consistent pace.
It's worth noting that "Sleepover #1" appears to be the first installment of a series. Whether that's exciting or daunting depends on your perspective, but it's a factor to consider when deciding whether to embark on this journey.
In conclusion, "Sleepover #1: The Night of the Sleepover" offers a blend of suspense, character development, and interpersonal drama, making it a worthwhile read for enthusiasts of psychological thrillers. The verdict on the ending may vary among readers, and the prospect of a sequel might influence your decision to delve into this tale. Without revealing any spoilers, I would rate this book a solid 3.5 stars, recognizing the intriguing setup and well-crafted characters while considering the divisive conclusion.
