So this book is a mix of workplace drama and winter retreat vibes that had me feeling kinda torn. On one hand, the setting in Canada is picturesque, and the quirky characters at Treetops add some charm. But on the other hand, the pacing felt off, and there were some moments that left me scratching my head.

One thing that really threw me off was the handling of certain sensitive topics without much depth or sensitivity, which was a bit disappointing. It's like, I get wanting to keep things light, but there's a fine line between light-hearted and missing the mark.

Overall, this is a decent read if you're looking for something light and fluffy with a snowy backdrop, but it's not without its flaws. Three stars from me!

I tried a few times, but I was just never able to get into this one. Others may enjoy it more but it wasn't for me.

Reasonable Adults is a lighthearted debut about a woman named Kate who discovers her ex cheating on her. To spite him, she films a video of herself ranting about him, which ultimately gets her fired from her job.

I listened to the audiobook format and enjoyed the narration.

*many thanks to Highbridge Audio and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review.

The premise of this could be good. Could be fun. I like a story of someone moving from the city to the country and trying to find their way. Kate losing a lot of things at the beginning of this story, but what she lost is what she really wanted. So, we go along her journey of self-discovery where we're supposed to believe things are better. but I didn't really get it.

Heads Up- Attempted SA happens. Which could have been dealt with WAY differently. Wasn't a fan of the situation or the aftermath.

Reasonable Adults is the delightful debut novel by Robin Lefler. Kate Rigsby is in a going nowhere relationship and a going nowhere job, that is until both implode when she finds Chaz in a compromising position with a legal client and then goes on a wine fueled online rant. At the suggestion of her best friend Hailey, Kate applies for a position to grow business at the luxury and creative Treetops Resort in Muskoka, Canada. When she unexpectedly gets a nice offer, Kate sublets her apartment, packs up her Toyota, and sets off on the journey with her trusted companion Eric, her golden doodle.

Upon her arrival, Kate finds the resort to be less than her expected luxury resort. Although having excellent bones, the lodge and cottages are in great need of refurbishment. With an avant-garde crew of dedicated staff and artisans, the spirit of the lodge is active and well but the person holding the purse strings, Brooke Kerrigan, refuses to repair or replace things or even hire adequate staff to grow this business. As part of her divorce settlement from H.I.T. Chair Graham Sutherland, Brooke is more interested in funneling funds to her accounts than to using them to grow a thriving business.

Having been given an impossible job under restrictive guidelines, Kate has had to become quite creative herself. Coloring outside the lines, Kate does what her job requires and meets and exceeds her goals. She also makes great friends with the small five person staff and the associated staff that lead seminars and outings, including artist Matt Reid, who just happens to be Graham Sutherland’s son.

Through a series of events this story takes its readers on a lovely ride. Wonderful characters, a beautiful winter wonderland setting, and a special story of tenacity and resilience, I very much enjoyed this book and do recommend it!

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I could not get into this story or connect with the characters and ended up not finishing it.

I received an advanced audio copy of Reasonable Adults from the publisher Highbridge Audio via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

What It’s About: After walking in on her ex-boyfriend hooking up with a client, Kate goes on a social media rampage resulting in her losing her job in addition to her almost fiancé. Desperate for a job and a reset, Kate takes a winter job working at Treetops an exclusive artists’ retreat in the wilds. But the retreat is not what it seems, the building is stuck in 1990’s, Kate’s office is a bunker, her boss is a jerk, and at night she stays in a freezing hut with her 70 pound Goldendoodle. And Kate has to turn this place into a profitable oasis? Things seem impossible, but it’s not all bad, there is the sexy, off-limits coworker…

What I Loved: The premise is quite good, I thought it was perfectly fine but there wasn’t a lot to write home about. I do always like a story of someone moving from the city to the country and making it.

What I Didn’t Like: The characters aren’t very developed and that made me not really care. I didn’t feel like I knew the characters, they were just kind of there. Also there is a scene that shows attempted rape and victim blaming and it just kind of wrecked the story for me.

Who Should Read It: People who like stories where people leave city for job in country.

Summary: A woman loses her job and takes a job saving an artist retreat in the Canadian wilderness.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.

This fell a little flat for me. It wasn't bad at all, the characters just didn't do anything for me. Decently cute holiday read overall, with a good narrator.

Unfortunately, I could not get into this audiobook. I typically give books a shot before I DNF them, but something about this audio recording made it difficult for me to feel connected to the story. I do not feel I can give an accurate review of the book since I could not get passed the audio to fully enjoy the novel. Thank you to NetGalley for the audio ARC!

this book was not at all the cute holiday romance i expected and i honestly don’t believe that this book deserves to have such a cute cover given the terrible things that happened within. don’t get me wrong i love a good dark romance but this was just terrible

TW: Sexual assault

Shortly after ending things with her cheating ex, Kate uploads a video to social media that gets her fired from her job – good thing she never cared for the ex or the job, anyway. She accepts a 3-month job offer at Treetops Creative Resort in Northern Canada without reading the fine print. Her job is not only in the dead of winter but has impossible targets and a boss who seems to want the company to fail, not to mention a rule against dating her handsome and charming coworker.

I did not really understand what Kate disliked about her old job and ex nor what she did (eventually) like about the new job and love interest (beyond his looks). I can’t help but imagine that Kate will find herself in the same slump of not really liking the major things in her life within another year or two. Several of the side characters were one-dimensional, existing as a plot device and not a person. This book just wasn’t for me.

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an audio ARC of this book.

This story was so quirky, and I loved it! I loved the sense of finding your place in the world and having a found family. I think that we can all relate to feeling like we don’t have it all together and just settling for what we think that we want. Kate’s journey starts there, but she quickly figures out what she really wants in life, and I love that she goes after it in the end.

Kate Rigsby is a HOT mess! She loses her marketing job after going on instagram and making comments about her ex, who is a major douche. However, before she does this she has the foresight to apply for another job. Although she doesn't do enough research to figure out what said job is or where she would be living, which is in the wilderness with artist.

The book is a discovery of someone's life falling to shambles and finding themselves along the way.

Thank you #NetGalley for the advance copy!

"Reasonable Adults" was okay, but not great. Kate Rigsby is finding it hard to be an adult. She hasn't found her dream job, she just had a dramatic breakup with her long-term boyfriend, which cost her her job as well. So, she's left in quite a state when we first meet her.

The thing is, none of what she lost is what she really wanted. And a huge issue is, she doesn't really know what she wants. So, we're swept along her journey of self-discovery where she meets extremely quirky characters along the way and finds a new sense of peace and home.

The problem is, there is so much to not like. We're not convinced the new guy she ends up with is much better than the one she left behind. After all, when it comes to pursuing her dreams, he does little more to help her than to stand behind her and give her a nudge in the right direction. He didn't stand up for her when he should have and left her to sort things out on her own one too many times.

The story had promise, but it fell flat for me.

Thank you to Robin Lefler, HighBridge Audio, and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

Kate catches her ex cheating on her and films a drunk video telling everyone. That video ends up getting her fired from her job. With no prospects she accepts a job at a getaway resort in the middle of nowhere, where she’s tasked with upping the rentals in the dead of winter. She also meets Matt, who is the owners son and a romance starts to bloom.

I will note that at about the 75% mark an attempted SA happens to the FMC by her ex. The MMC sees and then somehow ends up mad at her saying she invited him here and he’s just a place holder. Yikes. Victim blaming at its finest. I’m assuming this is where most people dropped their ratings. I don’t think it was out of place, but could’ve been handled very differently. Not my favorite but I was able to push past it.

I will say I feel like this book is more romantic women’s fiction than straight-up romance since the romance takes a bit of a backseat to Kate’s personal journey and growth, but I enjoyed the romance and I really liked the scenes with Kate and Matt together. It was so much fun watching Kate go from floundering after losing her boyfriend and her job to finding where she belonged and with whom. She had been coasting along in life, but when she decided to really give Treetops a chance, she found something she thrived at, and I think a lot of people will be able to relate to that.

You can tell that the author is a fan of Gilmore girls and other shows/books that present a main character with a running commentary in her head which can be quite fun when done well. The audiobook really helps bring the character to life by helping express emotions and thoughts more clearly. I've struggled a lot with my rating for this book as I really liked the main premise of the book. Girl catches her now ex cheating, has a public meltdown on social media, loses job then has to jump on anything in order to not end up broke and on her best friend's couch. In desperation she ends up at a remote resort that caters to the creatives of the world and it is her job to bring this aging establishment up to full capacity. Lots of funny interactions between characters, between the main character and her setting, between main character and her boss, however, a lot of these interactions leave you with the impression that the main character is actually a teenager in a 30-year-old body with a serious case of whininess. You will end up with a happily ever after, but the ending seemed rushed and left you with a bit of let down in regard to the future of the resort that she has fallen so much in love with. Overall, it was an enjoyable listening experience due to the narration and the book is entertaining.

Kate is trying to find her footing in life after many more than a few missteps. She is very excited for what seems to be a wonderful opportunity until turns out to be fraught with myriad challenges. And yet she not only survives, she thrives until she us yet again thrown a curveball until she discovers her own inner strength. The concept was terrific and yet I didn’t find any of the cast of characters particularly likable nor did I find there to be any any chemistry between…anyone. Mostly I found the cast to be a bunch of entitled, selfish, rude and just awful people with zero awareness beyond themselves with no concern about ruining anyone and anything that gets in their way without caring who they took down in the process. That said, Kate is fabulous and I was rooting for her all through the listen (really nice narration) and was thrilled she developed a wonderful sense of self.

this had so much potential and some parts were super cute — eric, anyone?? but more than anything, i was just bored. there were sooooo many characters introduced and i had a hard time keeping track of them all. on top of that, the romance fell flat. there was zero emotional connection between kate and matt. it was all physical and i got tired of the constant comments about how hot he was. towards the end, i bumped up the narration to 3x just so i could finish it.

thanks to the publisher for an advanced copy. my thoughts are my own.
