Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"Reasonable Adults" by Robin Lefler left me with mixed feelings. While there were some redeeming aspects, I found it challenging to fully engage with the story. The premise of a newly single woman, Kate, taking on a winter job at an exclusive retreat in Canada had promise, but the execution fell short.

The initial portion of the book struggled with pacing and character connection. It took a while for me to get into the story and empathize with Kate's journey. The setting and the adorable Goldendoodle, Eric, were bright spots, but they weren't enough to fully immerse me in the narrative.

As the story progressed and introduced various staff and patrons, I appreciated the diverse personalities. However, the romantic development between Kate and Matt felt shallow and lacked a solid foundation, making it hard to invest in their relationship.

One significant issue I had was the handling of a troubling incident, followed by a disturbing reaction from Matt, the love interest. This moment was unsettling and tainted my view of their relationship.

I also found it difficult to believe the decisions and actions of some characters, especially as they allowed the situation to deteriorate to a problematic endpoint. The ending itself felt too conveniently wrapped up, leaving me with mixed emotions.

Although I had reservations about the love interest, Matt, and the overall story, I did appreciate Kate's resilience and her determination to find positives in a challenging situation. Her character's growth and assertiveness were commendable.

In the end, "Reasonable Adults" had its merits, but it didn't fully deliver on the potential promised in the synopsis. The uneven pacing, underdeveloped romance, and questionable character choices left me wanting more from the story.

First, I adored the narrator of this book! Vanessa Johansson kept this story rolling with definite pep and got me fully in to the character of Kate. The author, Robin Lefler, did a good job drawing out the quirky characters at the Treetops resort and I truly enjoyed the first 2/3 of the book. It got a little rocky for me after the encounter with Kate's ex and the fallout from there as she tried to tie the ending up. Thank you to HighBridge Audio and NetGalley for the early listen in exchange for my honest opinion.

TW: assault; victim blaming

To start, I could not get in the same headspace as the main character. I did not relate to her at all & could not understand how she didn’t understand what was happening around her.

Beyond that, the concept of the book was okay, but it was a bit messy & very rushed at the end. I was also not a fan of the main love interest blaming the main character for her assault.

I believe there is a lot of potential for this author (& I liked the narrator) but I just didn’t enjoy this

Sometimes life throws curve balls, if you swing or not, is up to you. Kate, the book's main character, swung and the result is a fun, lighthearted, feel-good adventure. Coming off of a bad breakup and just getting fired, Kate takes a job at a retreat and it's up to her to bring in business, What ensues for her is a life changing shift of both her perspective and the path of her future. Will Kate strike out, or will it be a home run?

This was a super fun, entertaining, easy read with a little bit of everything - from mystery to romance. If you're looking for a feel good read or listen, this book will not disappoint. It's a good time - guaranteed to make you smile.

Gave this book 4 stars.
After breaking up with her boyfriend and getting fired, she's off to start a new adventure. It's out of her comfort zone to increase business at a resort. This book has it all, heartache, laughter and a happy ending. Sometimes the worse things that happen come at the correct time.

First, I'd like to start out by thanking Netgalley, Robin Lefler, & HighBridge Audio for an advanced copy of this audiobook!

I have thoroughly enjoyed falling into the story of Kate as she sets out on the adventure of discovering herself, her confidence, her passion, and, of course, love. I really enjoyed that this focused on her and her personal battles more than the romance itself. Although Matt was the perfect book boyfriend! I found myself relating to Kate in so many ways, and I loved that she is so very not perfect or, as some would say, a hot mess! Robin Lefler did a truly stunning job of leading her to her very own happy ending.

I highly recommend everyone who loves romance (with some self-discovery in the process) to check this out. You won't be disappointed!

DNF at 3%.

I had to stop reading because this book was inane. But, guess what, because I got this as an advanced reader copy, I thought I would try again a week later. I had to repeat some of this book because I could not remember what had happened. The first time I read one percent.

In the first 3%, the book is so ridiculous that I could not continue. It felt like the author was trying to force something in this book. And meet up so many ridiculous situation that makes absolutely no sense!

1. Her 24-year-old boss calls her 31-year-old self "middle aged".

2. Her boss encourages her to "dress down". Aunty spilled coffee on her expensive clothing with no apology. He is actually giddy because it forces her to change her clothing. She wears a borrowed flower dress

3. She is dealing with drug dealing clients. Why? I don't understand. They also wear boots with manure on them. Why? I do not understand.

There is more but I am too tired to write about it. It is just so incredibly stupid I could not continue this book.

The narrator is pretty good though

I loved the premise and the set up for the story. It was a slow start but I was still intrigued. Then things got a little dicey and made me anxious. That was a turn off for me.

Kate Rigsby makes a social media post about her ex-boyfriend after learning he was set to make partner. The past lead to her losing her marketing job. Kate's two friends convince her to accept a job at Treetops. It was supposed to help give Kate a fresh start. Kate and Eric (her Goldendoodle) head to the resort that has a breathtaking view. The treetop crew aren't all friendly from the beginning but when it came down to it they fought for Kate. The resort was set up to fail but Kate did everything she could to turn it around. Her efforts were starting to pay off when Brooke (member of the board responsible for hiring) fired her. Brooke did not want Treetops to make it because she was bitter about the divorce settlement. Kate also fell in fall with co-worker Matt.

I enjoyed Reasonable Adults by Robin Lefler.

What I most liked about this book was seeing Kate’s development, both personally and professionally. She starts off as a mess: after posting a wine-fueled tirade on social media slamming her cheating ex-fiancé, she is fired because his company is one of her company’s biggest clients. I kept wanting her to speak up, take control, and get it together, but it took a while. A new job at a rustic retreat during the Canadian winter transforms her life, despite the fact that things do not go according to plan. The characters are a mix of truly lovely people and absolutely terrible people, which creates a lively plot. I felt like a few things were swept under the rug or left unresolved (like Christine’s new project) that left me feeling like loose ends were not tied up, but I really liked the book overall. The narrator was wonderful and made the story easy to listen to. Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this audiobook.

Not my favorite main character, I found her kinda annoying and whiny to be honest. I liked the other staff a lot though and the setting was amazing. Personally I hate the miscommunication trope and it sort of colored the ending of the book for me once it happened. Overall I think it was fun if you can get past a couple hoops.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version.
I really was into this book a lot but I have to say that the language was absolutely horrific. This book has cute quirky characters that I would loved to have read more about, but the language just got worse and worse and I just found it ridiculous.

I’m a bit confused at the low ratings cause this was a lighthearted and fun read - minus one part (but I’ll get that). I did listen to the audiobook and I think that gave me a different experience.

Kate catches her ex cheating on her and films a drunk video telling everyone. That video ends up getting her fired from her job. With no prospects she accepts a job at a getaway resort in the middle of nowhere, where she’s tasked with upping the rentals in the dead of winter. She also meets Matt, who is the owners son and a romance starts to bloom. Plus there’s a golden retriever that is adorable. 🦮

I will note that at about the 75% mark an attempted SA happens to the FMC by her ex. The MMC sees and then somehow ends up mad at her saying she invited him here and he’s just a place holder. Yikes. Victim blaming at its finest. I’m assuming this is where most people dropped their ratings. I don’t think it was out of place, but could’ve been handled very differently.

Overall I quite enjoyed this. It was just what I was in the mood for. I felt like I was in this snow covered, cold, wilderness vacation with all of these people.

This book was hard for me to get into. Kate annoyed me as she was an immature character and seemed to just whine about everything in life. As the book went on I began to like her a little more and was happy that she eventually found her happy ending and figured out what she wanted in life. The romance in the book was cute and I liked her and Matt.

A fun fish out of water story that turns into a story of finding oneself. I found myself rooting for Kate the whole time and loved the group at the retreat resort that becomes like family to her.

Not my cup of tea. Or my glass of alcohol, since tea never made it into this book, but a lot of alcohol did. Kate is a silly young woman living in Toronto who makes silly choices, including accepting a job at a resort without doing any real research. Difficulties ensue, her dog (perhaps the most sympathetic character in the book) isn't welcomed by all, but of course there's a gorgeous guy, and everything works out peachy in the end. More patient readers will perhaps enjoy the comedic aspects of the story as well as the descriptions of the breathtaking Muskoka environs.

This book was just okay. The storyline was alright, but I never felt like the workplace romance was truly alive between Kate and Matt. Overall I had a hard time getting into the book because the narrator read it so fast. I’ve never had this happen to me before. I had to double check it wasn’t set to a fast speed, but it was truly the normal speed. Many times I had to pause and replay parts of audiobook because I kept missing parts. Anyway, I was very annoyed the entire book. I think it would have been a much better book if I had read it myself!

After Kate makes a seriously ridiculous move for someone working in PR she finds needing a new job. The posting for Treetops sounds perfect. three months in the beautiful Canadian wilderness with the opportunity to make a great salary. The premise is wonderful. The execution, however, leaves a lot to be desired. Kate's quirky, outspoken voice was fun. The side characters also had unique personalities. Matt, the male love interest, was meh.

If you are looking for a light romance, witty dialogue, and a tiny mystery you may enjoy this book.

Thank you to Netgalley for a ARC of this audiobook.

I really tried with this one. I just didn't like the plot, FMC and overall the storytelling wasn't there for me. I read some others reviews in which state this book has almost SA and victim blaming. No thank you.

Thank you NetGalley for the audio-arc version of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
