The third Cameron Winners book finds him investigating after a family is killed, and only one small son survives. I struggled to get into this one with the way it was laid out. I liked the overall plot, but it took a long time to get into, and because I had an audiobook, I was a little confused about timeline, prologue, etc.

I didn't love the narrator here either. He had a very radio-style voice, which some people might enjoy more!

3.5 stars rounded up.

Premise - an English professor with exceptional skills tries to solve the brutal murder of a family and their nanny.

The mystery is engaging and the writing is immersive - it’s easy to lose yourself in Professor Winter’s world. The twists were twisty!

That said, Professor Winter is pretty creepy and I would have much preferred the same story, but with a less creepy POV to read it through. There were a few things about the ending that really didn’t work for me, but I won’t spoil it.

I rounded up instead of down because, while there were some off-putting things, the story was engaging - I never wanted to put it down. I think mystery fans will enjoy this story a lot, especially those who enjoy an uncomfortable POV!

Thanks, NetGalley and Mysterious Press, for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
