I enjoyed these characters and their family dynamic. I wouldn’t say it was thrilling, but it was a good legal mystery / domestic drama. The narrator of this audiobook did a great job.

I enjoyed this book! It was an exciting and dramatic read (sometimes a bit too dramatic for me). I think it will appeal to people looking for a quick and fast-paced read. The Devlin family is fascinating, I'd be curious to read more about their lives before they got wealthy. I felt really bad for TJ, he seemed to have a rough go of things. Thank you to G.P. Putnam's Sons and NetGalley for this ARC!

I've never actually seen an entire episode of law and order, but I now feel as though I've read one.

The Truth about the Devlins is a fast read that will have you wondering how in the world this story could end. When I first started reading it, I wasn't quite sure how it would go, but it ultimately grabbed me, and I plowed through the story. It's an interesting mystery centered around family dynamics, lies, and what happens behinds closed doors. The main character TJ's sobriety is a big focal point of the book too. If you are triggered by addiction of this nature, be forewarned. I was surprised by the ending too.

Overall, I enjoyed The Truth about the Devlins. It's not my favorite by Scottoline, but still a good book.

Thank you Putnam Books and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

What I liked about this book:
1. I love the family saga story that has lots of twists and turns!
2. A thriller combined with legal drama - such a good combo!!
3. Fast paced and easy to read!

What I wished was different:
1. There were so many family members that I didn't like - and I wished there a couple more that were likable.

Thank you for Net Galley and G P Putnam for providing me with an ARC.

Ever thought of your family as a team? Who would be the MVP? As part of The Devlin Family, Founders and Associates of Devlin & Devlin, TJ is barely on the team. As the black sheep of the family, TJ has given his parents a run for their money. However, after hitting rock bottom, TJ is looking to break away from his addict self and create a future for himself that he can be proud of. After a brief conversation with his brother, James, the defacto MVP of the Devlin clan, TJ's recently rehabbed world is going to fall apart and past the rock bottom he had just left. Will TJ retain his rehabilitated life or will he succumb to The Devlin Machine and help James remain the MVD (Most Valuable Devlin)?

This book hooked me from the beginning, but had difficulty holding my attention later on. A family drama about addiction, recovery, murder and the black sheep of the family it had all the ingredients of a solid family drama. Enjoyed the ending

If you would enjoy a family drama with an overbearing parent, family of lawyers, a recovering addict, dysfunction, secrets, messed up motivations, and twists and turns, this book is for you. TJ, the main character, is a ex-con alcoholic who is trying to redeem himself by doing investigative work for his brother's legal client's business merger. When someone who was supposed to be dead disappears, the race is on to solve the mystery and save the family's firm. I totally enjoyed TJ's wit, sarcasm and dedication.

initial thoughts: another legal, family drama story from Lisa Scottoline - I hope she continues these type of stories!

quick read, short chapters, and hard to put down. the main character, TJ Devlin was easy to root for, and while I was wondering where one storyline was going, it tied together towards the end.

If your family knows all the mistakes of your past, will they use them against you, or protect you from them, at all costs? TJ Delvin has plenty of mistakes in his past, and is doing his best to leave them there. So, when his brother comes to him for help, he doesn’t question his brother’s intentions. Will that lead TJ into his greatest downfall? And will the rest of his family come to his aid? Truly liked this book, and is another great novel by Lisa Scottoline.

I was just going through my ARCs at Netgalley and noticed that The Truth About the Devlins was still on my list. I read it back in May but apparently never wrote my review, which is a real shame as this was an excellent book. It is definitely a book that should be in your beach bag this summer.

I'm not sure there is anyone who writes about dysfunctional families better than Lisa Scottoline. I had so many emotions while reading this book. It is so good that I didn't want to put it down.

I felt so bad for TJ. He was really trying to get his life back on track and his brother and father aren't all that supportive. Speaking of the brother and father - I couldn't stand them.

This isn't a courtroom drama but involves more behind-the-scenes investigations.

Have you watched So Help Me Todd? In some ways, this is a much darker and twister version. But the interviewing and investigation into the case TJ is helping his sister with and the investigation into the death of a client kept me turning the page. My heart broke for the class action suit and nothing is as it seems with the death.

If you are too hot to do anything but read this summer then this is definitely a book that will keep you glued to the page.

My review will be published at Girl Who Reads on Friday - https://www.girl-who-reads.com/2024/07/the-truth-about-devlins-by-lisa.html

This book is compelling, if not actually a thriller. The complex family dynamics kept me turning the pages. I love a story with secrets that threaten to uncover carefully made facades, and The Truth About the Devlins fits this perfectly. No one in this family is exactly as they seem. Author Lisa Scottoline is skilled at creating characters who are flawed, yet relatable. Once the reader begins this world of murder, greed, lies, and redemption, they won't be able to stop until the last page!

This book was your standard Law and Order story that seemed to focus on the downfalls of the MC. I was really hoping that since it was the Truth about the Devlins (plural), that it would had more secrets about the entire family and not just 2 of the 5 members. It was a decent storyline, but more so boring than anything. I found myself getting mad at characters for the crappy things they did to one another. Not a go-to book for me.

Thank you NetGalley, G.P. Putnam's Sons and author Lisa Scottoline for this gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
