I love a story about a dysfunctional family and all the webs between relationships. I have read many Lisa Scottoline books and have yet to be disappointed, this book is no exception. I loved the story and all the layers within. I can't wait to purchase a physical copy to add to my bookshelf. thank you Netgalley for the ARC.
Lisa Scottoline does it again. The Truth About the Devlins is an intense legal thriller with family drama. TJ a recovering alcoholic, the black sheep of his family, works at his family’s law firm as an investigator. When his brother, a lawyer in the family law firm confides in TJ information about embezzlement and that he may have killed a man.T TJ is suddenly caught up in deception, and attempted murder. As TJ investigates his life is threatened., the story moves fluidly from past bro present. And the different storylines combine to for an intense story about a family with all their flaws, and the law. It was easy to get drawn into this story which moved fast with plenty of twists and turns.
Wow, what a story! I love that the story was only told through the viewpoint of TJ. The author weaves an interesting mystery as the reader tries to unravel the truth about this dysfunctional family. I found the added story of the prison trials to be so captivating.
Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
I must say I enjoyed this easy read. I fell in love with the Devlin family. The characters were relatable., and felt like members of my own family. The book is told from TJ Devlin’s perspective. TJ’s brother John needs his help with a possible murder, and nobody can be trusted. TJ is committed to helping his brother. He has his sobriety battle, being a disappointment to his family (mainly his father), and his dead end relationship.
The Truth About The Devlin’s will draw you in immediately. I was fooled. I thought I had every thing figured out but how wrong I was. I hope you enjoy this quick pace read as much as I did. I give it 4 solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed reading the latest book by Lisa Scottoline. I love how the dynamics of this family come to life, how the bad son becomes the good son and the family sees what is really right. It was a quick read for me, under 2 hours and very enjoyable.
This was a super fast paced and fun read. The MC TJ was a complex character and very lovable. I felt enthralled the whole time and actually read this book in one sitting. The pacing was pretty good, and I thought it came to a solid close!
This was a great read with family drama! I enjoyed the read about the devil in the family. The black sheep, TJ, and his family of lawyers get into a situation in which the older brother puts the blame on TJ. It was a great read. Thank you for NetGalley for letting me read this book.
I haven’t read a lot of crime thrillers before but I definitely found this book enjoyable. It was a tad predictable but nonetheless it was good. It was a nice ending wrapping everything up and given closure.
This is the first Lisa Scottoline book I’ve read, and I found it to be fast paced and fun to read. I felt agreat deal of empathy for TJ who is a recovering alcoholic and the black sheep of the family. He came across as a genuine guy and easy to root for even though he made several life changing mistakes. He took responsibility for them and learned valuable lessons. The depiction of the alcoholic is very realistic with the lack of trust from family and the day-to-day struggle to stay sober. The character development was so good that I wanted to punch the father for being so hardnosed, hug the sister for her compassion and love and I really disliked the brother for being such a d@#k. The family dynamic and the power struggle within it was well written.
There were a lot of twists and turns in the story that came together very well in the end and were believable and didn’t feel like they were made to fit in the storyline. I hope we see more of TJ in a following book.
Thank you for Netgallery and G P Putnam for providing me with an ARC for an honest review.
The Devlins, a family of lawyers and one black sheep face their downfall in this gripping novel. TJ, the disappointment of the family, is a charming, likeable character, trying to make a better name for himself. As he tries to help his brother, John, he ends up in the middle of controversy. I enjoyed this mystery, it kept me engaged and waiting to get to the end.
The Truth About the Devlins, by Lisa Scottoline
Thank you to Putnam Books and NetGalley for the ARC ebook of The Truth About the Devlins. I appreciate the opportunity to read this.
Although this book was not a favorite of mine, it was an okay read. I didn’t care about any of the characters in this story. At first I had a soft spot for TJ, the alcoholic brother that did time in prison, but as it went on and on, I just wanted him to grow up and be a man for once.
I like Lisa Scottoline’s writing and she is one of my favorite authors, but this book just wasn’t up to par with some of her other books I’ve read.
I’m really hoping she’ll do another historical fiction book. Both, Eternal and Loyalty were by far my favorites of her books. Look forward to more from her.
Lisa Scottoline can do no wrong in my book. She is an auto-read author for me! I will recommend again and again.
This was such a good thriller. It kept me on the edge of my seat with all of the twists and turns. I really enjoyed all of the characters. Another home run for Lisa Scottoline!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for an honest review!!!
I believe I've read everything Lisa Scottoline has written. Most involve law firms, and this one was no exception. As my father was an attorney, I've taken a particular interest in this genre. The Devlins are all exceptional achievers.... except for one. He's a struggler with a prison term behind him. Can he redeem himself both in his own eyes as well as his family's?
I love domestic thrillers and was really excited to get an ARC. of this book after reading Lisa Scottloine's book, Someone Knows.
The beginning of The Truth About the Devlins was intriguing and kept my attention. By the middle of the book, it dragged on and felt a bit chaotic. The end wrapped up nicely despite being predictable.
Overall this was a decent read. The constant gaslighting from TJ's family members became annoying after awhile and took away from the storyline. It felt too forced at times.
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Scottoline hits a home run! The Truth About the Devlins is a page turner with twists that you won't see coming. Brava!
I really really enjoyed this book! It felt different than most of Lisa's books and was a different vibe than Bennie's firm, but It was an easy and very interesting read! At no point did I know what was coming next and Ioved that!
This was a fun read! I love Lisa Scottoline's books! I felt a connection to the story and the characters. This book kept me on my toes and I finished it very quickly! Great 4 star read.
Lisa Scottoline's novels are filled with family drama and suspense. Whether it's in the courtroom or chasing the trail of a mystery, readers are on the edge of their seats rapidly paging through the books to discover the truth.
Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for the early edition of #TheTruthabouttheDevlins in exchange for an honest review. The patriarchal Devlins clan hold their cards close to their chest. When the sons are drawn in the business drama, John and TJ's gloves are off and which one is hiding a disturbing secret?
Putting his reputation on the line, TJ thwarts expectations and risks imprisonment to investigate the case. As more clues are revealed, should he be fearful of the outcome?
Amazing, fast paced and engaging! The Devlin’s seem to have it all but that’s not the case. So what is the truth and what is the picture that the Devlin’s want everyone to see? Only time will tell and hopefully before someone else gets hurt!
