I love a good mystery, I love police procedurals, and I love a great setting that plays a pivotal part in the story. So I really enjoyed A Trail Forgotten where ISB agent Felicity Harland and her partner Huxley are called to a brand new, hike in, luxury hotel in Pinnacles National Park to investigate the murder of a guest. Perfect for fans of Nevada Barr and CJ Box.

Thank you to Dreamscape media and netgalley for the ARC of this book in audio. I am a huge fan of police procedural/mystery set in “the wild” of national parklands and outdoors in general. Forgotten Trail provides in-depth descriptions of the location making me want to go visit the area despite the murders….
At times I felt the book was moving slowly but then it picked up again. I would have liked to see more interaction between Hux and Felicity but I do feel things were setup well for book 4 and I can be patient for a relationship to hopefully develop more.
The unfolding of the mystery and reveal of who did what and why was excellent. Kept me guessing right to the end!
My one complaint, I did not care for the narrators male voices.

I loved the concept of this book as a hiker & outdoor lover. However this book just moved a bit too slow for me to fully get into or feel the thrill of the mystery.

3.5 stars.

Thank you NetGalley for this Audio ARC!

This was a nice, solid police procedural. The authorities are from the investigative branch of the US National Parks Service. They look into crimes that take place on NPS land. Our setting is a hotel that is located on NPS land. After a guest is found dead, Felicity Harland is called in to head up the investigation. Is it a love triangle turned deadly, a hired hitman doing a job, or some other nefarious scheme?

The characters (both main and supporting) are well-written. The action is plotted out well so it doesn't drag or wrap up too easy.

This is the third book in this series and I plan on going back and reading the other two books in this series.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for an ARC audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

‘Forgotten Trail’ by Claire Kells is a fun, light crime story in a beautiful setting. I haven’t read either of the preceding two books in the series, so it definitely works as a standalone.

The story is well paced and the characters well fleshed out. I’m not familiar with the National Parks so it was fun to read something that made them feel a little closer.

The romance plot line didn’t work for me, there was no chemistry. I was definitely curious about the story with Kevin and would keep reading the series to find out what really happened in Australia!

Thanks, Netgalley, for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
