If this book didn’t have the author’s name on it, I would not have realized it was written by a celebrity. There is a co-author in Karina Argow whose bio says they are an English teacher. This feels like it was written by an English teacher. Someone who liked to play on the words and ANT and and AUNT. The story is over long. There’s no reason for the story to be this long. It’s about an aunt who wants to go on an adventure to another section of the garden. There are many points of repetitive wording that get tiring and annoying. The story is nice, and I do like the idea of the cricket transport system. That’s cute. The illustrations are lovely. Kelly Ann Dalton did a fantastic job. The cover is not my favorite, but the inside artwork is so much better and does not look as old-fashioned as the cover does. Overall, this book was nice but not anything that’ll still be on Library shelves in 20 years.

I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This was a fun story about a young ant who wants to visit the watermelon bed in the garden where she lives. Her friends and family are against the adventure at first because she is still young and it's a long way to the watermelon bed (for an ant at least). But Addie goes anyway, and things don't go exactly as planned. Luckily she has friends throughout the garden who help her get back home.
I have mixed feelings about the messages of this book, because I want my children to listen to me when I clearly know better than they do, but at the same time, I know I do eventually have to let them be their own people (they're both teenagers now and I think I've mostly succeeded at letting them be their own people, but when they were younger it was so hard). I just think there's the potential for that messaging to cause problems for parents of younger children. But I'd be okay reading this book a few times because it really is important for us to let our children have some autonomy and make mistakes. It's how they're going to learn. The illustrations were very bold and colorful.
Overall I give Addie Ant Goes on an Adventure 4.1957 out of 5 stars.

This book was very long and wordy- it would make it hard to read aloud to a classroom or teach social emotional skills in my setting.

Addie the Ant Goes on an Adventure is a cute story with beautiful illustrations. My daughter would definitely enjoy it.

Very cute story with a sweet message and great illustrations. It was colorful and engaging. My 4 year old loved it!

Wonderful story with great pictures that encourage children and parents alike to join in. So cull
Up with your favorite young one and have a great time reading and exploring this book together.

We really liked this book. The ants were adorable and taught an important lesson without throwing it in your face. A good read-aloud for all ages.

Addie Ant Goes on an Adventure is an adorable illustrated adventure for the youngest readers by Maren Morris & Karina Argow. Released 9th April 2024 by Chronicle Books on their Chroma imprint, it's 40 pages and is available in hardcover, audio, and ebook formats.
This is a sweet adventure picture book for the smallest readers (2-5 years) with such a retro vibe. Young Addie has always wanted to travel across the garden to see where the watermelons and sunflowers grow. She plans her trip, packs her backpack, straightens her shoulders, and off she goes. She meets lots of friends along the way to her destination. Characters have alliterative names (Addie Ant, Lewis Ladybug, Beatrix Butterfly, etc) and are appealingly rendered.
The free verse is simple and will become a fast favorite with the small family members for bedtime or storytime reading. The illustrations by Kelly Anne Dalton are wonderfully retro and luminous. They are full of small details which draw the eye and will also be fun for the littles to find details like flowers, bugs, etc. The nostalgic art will remind adults "of a certain age" of the vanished Little Golden Books of their own childhood years.
Five stars. It would be a superb choice for public or school library acquisition, home use, and gift-giving purposes.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Addie Ant lives in a beautiful outdoor oasis. The drawings of her home and adventures were stunning, the colors would draw in small children to hear about Addie’s adventures and older children to see the beautiful art work. Addie’s friends are beautifully drawn with many colors.
I’d recommend this for kids 2-10 years old. The older range may just want to see the drawings, while the younger kids would like the whole story! That it’s written Maren Morris is just an amazing bonus!!

The coloring is perfect for grabbing your attention and the story was super cute and had a nice wholesome message.

Addie Ant sets forth one day on the least adventurous adventure ever. All her needs are provided for by other insects: they tell her how to get where she's going, give her yummy treats, and warn her of possible dangers that never happen anyway. It's really not much of an adventure when you don't have to face challenges or fend for yourself one little bit.
The illustrations by Kelly Anne Dalton are cute, and have a Miss Spiderish vibe, but they're the only reason I can think of for visiting this book.

Vibrant illustrations and a sweet story about Addie Ant, who gets lost on an adventure and finds she needs help to make her way home. Perfect for readers 3-8 and the adults who love to read to them.

This book was absolutely adorable!! The illustrations were so detailed and colorful, and the story was cute as could be.
I received an ARC from Chronicle Books | Chronicle Chroma via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was so cute! It was an excellent story with excellent illustrations. I loved the different little places in the garden that Addie could visit. I loved the adventure and characters. Highly recommend.

This book was wonderful! It has beautiful illustrations and the story is really cute. Any huge Maren Morris fan with young children will be thrilled by this story, and it very much fit with what I'd hoped a children's book from her would look like. I'd highly recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This book was adorable! The illustrations are so wonderful and the story is so great. This will be a joy to read with children. I really enjoyed this story.

Addie Ant Goes on an Adventure is a sweet picture book for kids of all ages! As the title suggests, the plot revolves around a young ant who goes on an adventure, traveling from the garden bed where she lives across the farm to the watermelon patch. The illustrations are lush and lovely, and the text includes lots of puns and descriptive language.

The pictures in the story are really creative, and I love the concept of traveling across such a small space, but so large for the ant. As we follow the ant across the garden, she encounters many common bugs and plants. I love that the authors don’t shy away from advanced vocabulary. However, this is definitely more of an “adult reads to the child” book. At times, it skips around a little and jumps in the story, making me go back to see if I missed a page. I like the message - to try something new and make your own adventure.

If you’re doing a unit on ants, this would be a fun addition to your program. It’s the story of an ant that goes on a little adventure. It’s geared toward younger children as older kids may feel it’s a bit anticlimactic. It’s full of ant puns and cute, “antastic” turn of phrase. The illustrations are cute and textured.
It’s a very pretty book.
Thank you for the eARC!

Addie the ant takes you on a little adventure meeting friends of all insects along the way to the other side of the garden. This book is wonderfully written and stands out to children who love ants. My little one kept shouting "I love it! I love it!" I could tell a lot of work went into the detailed drawings of each page down to the tiniest insect.
