This was a major improvement from the authors first book.
I liked the book's fast pace and how it immediately immerses you in the mystery. The plot was straightforward, and while I figured out some elements early, I didn't predict the killer until the end.

The setting was well-crafted with a great creepy camp atmosphere, though I wished it had been explored more. The story focused heavily on action and drama, leaving character development lacking. Despite being engaged during the read, I was unsure about my overall impression after finishing, mainly due to the shallow characters.

The writing was good, but the story felt less impactful in the long run, and the ending seemed abrupt and unfinished. If you're looking for a quick, thrilling read with camp slasher vibes, this book might suit you. It reminded me of "The Island" by Natasha Preston but felt like a mix of better stories into a less satisfying one. Some will love it, some will dislike it, and I'm somewhere in between.

This was a fun summer camp slasher novel. It took me a little bit to get all of the people/story straight but then it was pretty predictable but still a lot of fun. I have to say that summer camp horror is one of my favorite horror tropes.

Arc review: Some of it was very hard to follow at first with all the different characters. But eventually it all came together. The plot twists were insane. One after the other.

This was an interesting story. It went back and forth between Olivia and Reagan. One of them is trying to prove her moms innocence and the other is trying to figure out the secrets of her family.

Wow what a page-turner! Imagine being born on the day of a notorious murder in your small town - oh yeah, and your mom runs the camp where the murder took place. That's Olivia's life.

Reagan's, meanwhile, has been all about being on the run with her mom -- the woman who was blamed for the aforementioned murders.

The two collide on the first day of camp, where someone else is deadly determined to keep the real story of the murders a secret.

I really liked the characters in this, and some of the twists (there were many!) really caught me off guard and felt satisfying. The whole book will keep your heart pumping.

Fans of YA thrillers, this is a must-read. It's basically a campy slasherfic, so if that is not your vibe, it may not be for you -- but it was great for me. Thanks to the publisher for the advanced copy.

Twist after Twist Two sides to every murder is PEAK YA summer camp slasher.
Nothing like a summer camp thriller to kick off the start of camp season right? (Future me writing this at the end of camp season- No horrible idea!).
Now I loved it because of how tropey it was, but I can see how it might not be everyones cup of tea. I love this kind of book and could eat ten of them up every year, I've worked at camps for most of my life and I LOVE them.
it has plot twists.
it has teen romance.
It's got plot holes.
it has silly hand-wavy police intervention.
It's got a murderer chasing people in the woods.
What more could I want?

Most people come into the world under relatively uneventful circumstances, but not Olivia; she was born seventeen years ago during the infamous Camp Lost Lake murders, a camp which quickly shut down after that tragic night. Since then she has had a good life, but she soon faces a bump in the road when she learns that the man that she has called dad is not actually her father. Desiring to find answers Olivia goes to the one place that might contain them–Camp Lost Lake–and luckily for her the camp is reopening.

Reagan wants answers too, although they are of a different type. Ever since that terrible night seventeen years ago Reagan and her mother have been on the run. Her mother has been referred to as the witch of Camp Lost Lake and, in the court of public opinion, she is responsible for the devastation that occurred seventeen years ago, but Reagan thinks otherwise and is determined to clear her mother’s name.

Someone wants to hide the truth, and will do anything to keep the truth buried.

Two Sides to Every Murder is a fun young adult mystery that, while rather predictable and cliche–it had a lot in common with the various camp-based horror movies, between the characters, the events, and everything in between–was nevertheless enjoyable. I liked the dual point of views used to tell the story, along with the flashbacks to that fateful night. I do believe that the story could have been executed a little better; young adult novels have become substantially better over the last few years and this one didn’t fully hit the mark, but it was still a fun story.

This is very much a whodunit that keeps you guessing until the end. There is a lot thrown into the story that I can't say for fear of spoiling. It is a YA book and would be suitable for teens.

"Two Sides to Every Murder" by Danielle Valentine is a gripping psychological thriller that masterfully explores dualities in human nature and the quest for truth. Its sharp narrative and intricate plotting make for a suspenseful and thought-provoking read.

The story had potential and almost lived up to it, but it lacked that 'wow' factor. It was a fun and somewhat thrilling mystery, with enough twists to keep you engaged, but it definitely had a YA vibe, especially in its characters and overall tone. If you're looking for a light, easy read that doesn’t demand too much, this could be a good pick. It reminded me a bit of Holly Jackson, particularly her latest novel, so I would recommend it to fans of her work or those who enjoy contemporary YA mysteries.

This was such a fun read! This makes me want to skip the whole camp experience. I have read one other book by this author and she’s really good at keeping me on my toes. I did not expect the ending and the twist too! Overall I enjoyed this book. I will definitely recommend this book. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first Danielle Valentine book. The name is what I found interesting. The book was very fast paced.

The story starts off with Olivia who's mom is the camp director and she was born during the Camp Lost Lake murders. Olivia finds out that that her father is not her father.

There is another main character, Reagan, and her mother is guilty of murder. Reagan's mother tells her that she is innocent of the murders.

I enjoyed the book. I enjoyed the that it was at a camp and it gave me those camp thriller vibes.

Valentine is my go to for any sort of YA horror and I was very excited about TWO SIDES TO EVERY MURDER. It did not disappoint! Set at an abandoned summer camp, there is a murderous witch on the loose killing both in the past and in the present day. I literally had to stop reading when I was home alone at night because it was giving me the heebie jeebies. I liked the alternating timeline as well as the different POVs- it kept me guessing until the end. Another fun and fast paced horror read from Valentine! Definitely worth the read.

@daniellevalentinebooks I loved this read. That ending 🙌🙌🙌. In summary this was a summer camp slasher novel. I swear it gave me Jason vibes but at summer camp. There are a lot of moving pieces of their story but it’s not to hard to keep up. Camp lost lake is known for a few things. Mass murder and a single birth on the camp site. Sadly the two are tied together in a very tangled web of secrets. Olivia and Reagan are twins that find each other under extreme circumstances. The entire story relives around them. I could see this easily being made into a movie. Come on @netflix!!! This is a bing worthy read because you have to know who is the actual killer. The story is told from dual POV’s with tons of important flashback from the past. This book wasn’t a 5 star read for me because I had so many unanswered question at the end. Once you get to the ending you will understand.

🗣️ Great job V. Rose Lohman, Alex finke and @hillaryoutloud in narration. Well done!

Highly recommend this book. This book kept me on the edge of my seat with the mystery of Camp Lost Lake. This book had a little romance, a lot of mystery and a number of suspects on who could possibly be responsible for the terror at the Lake. It was interesting how the story went back and forth between two different sides of the story - as a former prosecutor that kept me on the edge of my seat. Looking forward to a possible sequel

I love love love summer camp thrillers and this one did not disappoint. It was fast paced and it had tons of twists and turns which is exactly what I look for in a thriller. The ending had me completely shocked, jaw on the floor. I stayed up past my bedtime to finish this book. If you are a fan of summer camp thrillers, or just thrillers in general you should definitely pick this one up. I don’t think you would see that ending coming from a mile away! Welcome to Camp Lost Lake, where the waters are inviting and the woods harbor danger.

Upon reviewing the synopsis, two notable titles came to mind, filling me with anticipation: Sleepaway Camp and Friday the 13th. Enthusiasts of horror often relish a thrilling camp slasher.

Danielle Valentine has consistently impressed me with her ability to craft spine-chilling narratives. Her endings are particularly adept at inducing a sense of panic.

The campy atmosphere was enjoyable, and the murders were entertaining. While certain elements were somewhat foreseeable, I remained uncertain about the outcome until the very last moment. I appreciated the brisk pacing and the dual points of view.

I would certainly recommend this to anyone who enjoys thrillers, even if young adult fiction is not typically your preference. I found this book to be quite enjoyable!

I extend my gratitude to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Considering How to Survive Your Murder by Danielle Valentine has been floating around my TBR pile, it feels appropriate to take a dive into Two Sides to Every Murder, a murder mystery that's been effectively dressed up in slasher horror clothing. This does a compelling job at pulling us through the twists and turns of the dysfunctional family dynamics within the suspenseful and fast-paced narrative—dynamics that carry quite a few secrets that leave me guessing as to what's truly happening all the way until the conclusion. The kills are solid enough, but I do wish they could have been executed with more flair (I'm saying this as a major horror fan who's always up for creative and vicious kills). As for the very ending, I'll admit that I'm ambivalent over it. I'd been satisfied with how the mystery had wrapped up beforehand, but once we reach that extra little epilogue, it makes me wonder if a different choice could have been pursued.

All in all, though, I'm officially rating Two Sides to Every Murder 3.75 out of 5 stars, which I'm rounding up to 4 stars. I'm looking forward to checking out How to Survive Your Murder.
