This was an ARC from NetGalley. Where do I start?? I have a book hangover. I have found a new favorite author. The writing style is in the same quirky, fun, serious, laugh out loud arena of Cathy Lamb who is another one of my favorites when I need a really good book, This one dealt with some very heart breaking issues, but did so in a way that just made this a fabulous read.

True crime lovers, you will enjoy this one. When three boys are found dead, the case goes cold. Until one day, Arlene, an employee at the police station goes through the evidence and attempts to solve the murders herself. She takes this personally, because of her desire to conceive and the fact that this case involves children. I really loved this book, and thought it was so different than any other books I've read. This is my first-time reading Lo Patrick, and I look forward to reading more. I highly recommend reading this asap. 4.5 stars!

Three young boys are found dead on the bank of a river in a small Georgian town.. A few days later, the main suspect commits suicide, yet the murder was never solved. Twenty years later, a bored housewife, Arlene, who is trying to get her mind off of the difficulties of conceiving a child, takes a job bagging evidence at the local police station. When Arlene stumbles upon the cold case of the three murdered children, she gets permission to read the files and she becomes obsessed with solving the murders.

With a cast of quirky characters, the townspeople's secrets are revealed as the mystery unfolds. You also are able to hear the mind of the unknown murderer and the creepiness of his words are haunting.

This is the first book I have read by Lo Patrick. It was a unique story with an entire town of unpredictable characters. Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for the Advanced Reader Copy. #NetGalley #TheNightTheRiverWept

Usually murder mysteries aren't for me but I've really enjoyed this one.
This book had me guessing and turning the pages real fast to see what happens next.
Lots of twists and turns that will keep you guessing throughout the novel.
I really loved the title.
The Georgian setting made me love it that much more.
This new to me author has done a wonderful job with this novel. The dual timeline was done perfectly without missing a beat. Awesome!
Arlene is like anyone else. She's human and makes mistakes along the way. She isn't perfect not by any means and that's why I like her so much.

I loved this book. What a perfectly paced, and interesting mystery. I’m a huge fan duel timelines, and this one was done so flawlessly. I liked the characters, and the light breaks of humor. The story came together just right and I felt satisfied with the way everything ended.
I’ll be keeping my eye on Lo Patrick going forward.

This is the story of a brutal cold case that resurfaces when a housewife gets a clerical job in the police station. Arlene is drawn to the old files, coming across the devastating unsolved case of the Broderick boys, . She feels like she can solve this one.

This is as much a story of the present as it is a story of the past. I thought that the dual timelines complemented each other perfectly. There was a balance between the perspectives in the past and the impending justice in the present.

I'm not sure that Arlene is a wholly likeable character though. There were some interactions she has that rub me the wrong way. Her entire demeanor shifts from interaction to interaction, like she is looking for attention in the exact wrong places.

Ultimately, though... I really enjoyed this. This crime was SAD! SO heartbreaking for kids in an already poor situation.

First time reading Lo Patrick and I fell into this story quickly. Excellent dialogue, funny and heartbreaking at times. I was invested in learning more and the pace was just right to keep my interest. I really loved the Southern setting and the mysteries and how the main character was written. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Five stars.
