Not too often, I take a mini break from dark romances, especially when I've read and reviewed one after the other. I like to look for something light and fun, and "Fake It Til You Make It" by Sierra London did the trick. This small-town interracial relationship romance where the MMC and FMC were every bit of a grumpy/sunshine couple.
Amarie, a soon-to-be nurse, finds herself in a small town after leaving her long-time boyfriend when she finds out he had been cheating on her —much to her mom's dismay. She decides to pursue an opening at the local vet clinic due to not having any money or other prospects in town.
Eli, recently divorced, has taken over his father's vet business, which is not doing well. At the encouragement of his family, he reluctantly hires the vivacious Amarie to help him out. After a while, she warms up to him, melting off that grumpy demeanor. Though recent past partners have hurt both, they tread carefully with each other. Together, they make a plan to help the business.
I enjoyed Eli and Amare. I especially loved how assertive and untrusting he was with his ex right from the get-go. And Amare's straightforward personality was just the perfect match for Eli.
There are intimate scenes. But the spice is fairly low.
