The Lodge was an insane ride filled with secrets, betrayals and murder. When Angela invites her family to a weekend getaway for her 75th birthday not only does she invite her son, Scott and his new wife and child, she also invites Scott's ex-wife, Fiona. Fiona is desperate not to attend, not wanting to see the woman who tore apart her family with their affair, but when Angela states this might be her last birthday, she hesitantly agrees. Once everyone arrives to the lodge, they soon get snowed in and when they learn that a hit and run victim was found near the lodge, they soon become suspects. Will this family be able to get out of this birthday weekend alive?
This cast was full of unlikeable characters each with their own secrets. I think the only one I could relate to was Fiona and even she had her own secret. However, the forced proximity for these characters lead to a drama filled weekend with tensions even higher after a body was found near the lodge. Although the beginning was slow-paced, it quickly grabbed my attention and didn't want to put it down. I was shocked at the ending but was happy to see how everything fit together. This was a definite 5 star read and will be looking out for more books by this author.
I also highly the audiobook for The Lodge. I enjoyed the two narrators that played Fiona and Danni and did a great job of reading the other characters.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity review The Lodge. I voluntarily listened and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Being invited to celebrate a 75th birthday in a beautiful lodge on the coast of Cornwall sounds idyllic and of course you’d jump at the chance to go or would you ? Well in this gripping read by Sue Watson , family matriarch Angela Wilson has invited her ex Daughter-in-law Fiona , her two grandchildren and her son Scott, along with Scott’s new wife Danni and their baby daughter Olivia to celebrate her birthday. Angela is hoping they’ll all get on and have the most wonderful few days away, after all it might be her last birthday? To make it even better Angela has invited along a ‘gourmet’ chef to do all the cooking . Sounds absolutely perfect but will it be ?
Oh wow this is again another gripping and at times heart stopping read by Sue Watson . Sue is one of my automatic go to authors where I don’t even need to read the blurb of her book to know I’m in for an awesome read . The Lodge is one that once you start you will honestly struggle to put down . Filled with characters that all seem to be hiding something and I didn’t know who to trust for the majority of this book. There were a few red herrings thrown in and some twists that I really wasn’t expecting . The final sentence in this book will really have you thinking . Another book that I adored listening to on audio and the two narrators were excellent . They really brought this story to life ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Book: The Lodge

Genre: Thriller, Crime/Mystery

Review Score: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 ½ rounded down)
Review: Another really enjoyable thriller that I would recommend to anyone (especially if you like locked room mysteries and/or dysfunctional families)—the audiobook comes highly recommended as the two narrators were excellent. The Wilson family are all coming together in a lodge in the mountains for what may be the matriarch’s last birthday. That family includes Fiona and Dani—the ex-wife and new wife—who alternate telling what they are seeing, thinking, and experiencing as the family drama unfolds. The drama is compounded when there’s a suspicious hit and run outside the lodge and a snowstorm forces everyone to stay together longer than expected…and maybe with a murderer in the house. It got a *little* long at the end, but the twists made it worth it.
The Lodge by Sue Watson is an interesting read with a strong thread of family is super important. What would you do for your child?
So good!!! The Lodge completely exceeded my expectations. I go through several thriller novels and week and this one is the best I’ve read in a while. I enjoyed the red-herrings and the surprise twists. The intention with which Sue Watson used the character POV’s to derive how you felt about each person was brilliant. I highly recommend The Lodge and I’m on my way to find The Sister In Law next!
Really enjoyed this book! Fast paced and lots of twists and turns! Likeable characters. Sort of stranded who dunnit!
In the book The Lodge, author Sue Watson follows the Wilson family who are all staying at The Lodge which is located at the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea. A snow storm has moved in while the family is arriving to celebrate Angela’s birthday. But what a dysfunctional family. Angela invites her son Scott, his current wife Danni, his ex-wife Fiona and her grand-kids. The tension is high and then they are snowed in. And then the police come calling. There has been a murder. Is one of them capable? This is an intriguing story with a very twisted ending. I would recommend this book. The audio-book narration was very good. I received a copy of this audio-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I finished this in 2 days! I enjoyed reading this #psychologicalthriller!
#SueWatson’s words flowed quickly & made for an easy read! Filled with a cast of characters with secrets, I didn’t see the twist coming at the end!
Alison Campbell & Tamsin Kennard are excellent narrators!

Ok, so that was a wild ride! I did not see that twist at the end coming! And man does Fiona have the WORST taste in men! To think she was going to take her bag-of-dicks hubs back after he cheated on her, humiliated her, and married his affair partner! This was my 1st book by Sue Watson but is definitely not going to be my last, I am adding all her backlog of books to my TBR!

Two things that make us uniquely human are secrets and love. Each has the capacity to push us to extreme behavior. The Lodge is a gripping suspenseful tale of how lines of morality can quickly be blurred. Every one has a story and the Wilson’s are no different. Out of love and loyalty an ex wife agrees to a weekend retreat to celebrate her former mother in law’s birthday. A mother in law who has been more like a mother, and self reports that she may not see another birthday. It’s an emotional challenge but she agrees to attend, knowing that her ex husband and his former mistress turned wife will be in attendance. Also in attendance are the new couples infant daughter and the ex’s teenage children.
Unbeknownst to everyone, an enemy from someone’s past has also been invited. What could her presence mean? Is her appearance benign as it appears? Tensions are increased when a mysterious hit and run occurs. An ongoing police investigation, turns the weekend celebration into a nightmare . Could the victim be tied to someone at the lodge? Even as secrets are unfurled, more take center stage.
Relationships and allegiances are expertly camouflaged.
As secrets are revealed, one member of the group disappears. Is the disappearance linked to mental instability, drug abuse or something more calculating and sinister?
I would readily recommend this novel to any who loves to curl up with a good mystery. It’s not your classic who dunit. It’s is a psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end. It’s a suspenseful ride you’ll be glad you took.

I loved everything about this book! This was my first read by Sue Watson, and now I want to read more. The matriarch of the family, Angela, wanted everyone together at a lodge to celebrate her 75th birthday. Who is everyone? Her son and his new wife and their toddle, her son’s ex-wife and their two kids. Talk about awkward!
Dysfunction at its finest. Throw in being snowed in, and you have the makings for a great thriller. There is lots of drama, jealousy and suspense packed into this mystery novel. I truly enjoyed Watson’s writing style. There were multiple POVs, which is my fave. There was well thought out character development, as well as the perfect amount of background information provided to make the book flow effortlessly.
This book pulled me in from the first page and kept me invested until the very end. I had no idea who to trust and all the guesses I made about the various plot twists were WRONG! This was a slow burn, but in the best way possible. This book was addictive, and I couldn’t wait to see what happened at the end!
Thank you to Bookouture, Bookouture Audio and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in my exchange for an honest review.
Twists, turns, secrets....my jaw was on the floor. I could not put this book down. A truly amazing plot twist.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Lodge by Sue Watson is a completely gripping and totally jaw-dropping psychological thriller! An audiobook narrated by Alison Campbell and Tamsin Kennard is so enjoyable that you will want to put everything on the side to find out, what happens next. This is a perfect, outstanding, gripping page-turner! Constantly something is happening, constant action! There is no moment in this book that you could call boring. There are several storylines in one big storyline. And the final twist - BOOM!
Angela invites everyone to her 75th birthday celebration by saying this is her last one. She rented a stunning lodge on the edge of a cliff. It's winter, it's snowing, it's beautiful.
Fiona, her ex-daughter-in-law attends just to respect Angela's wish but she is not happy to spend the weekend with Danni - her ex-husband's Scott new wife.
On top of all this, there is a hit-and-run incident and they all must stay longer than expected.
The situation is heated and not everyone came to The Lodge to play happy families. They all have secrets to hide and protect.
There is no way to summarize this book by not spoiling some details so you just need to read it or listen to it as you definitely don't want to miss this out!
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this incredibly gripping thriller!
What is presented as a weekend getaway for a birthday, turns into terror. Secrets lurk under the surface, and there are simmering resentments from the past. As the family tries to survive the time together, someone will turn up dead.
Ya'll, this book. I could not put it down. I was hooked. Fiona definitely has some issues to work through, and Scott (someone slap him please) needs some serious help. Danni is a mess, and should probably be medicated, while Angela - the sweet grandmother turning senile is the sanest one among the group.
It was a great read, and one that I really enjoyed!
I really loved this psychological thriller audiobook, which was narrated by two female voice actors, who did a fantastic job.
The story is about Fiona and her family, who go to a snowy Lodge beside the sea, on a small get together, which is designed to celebrate the birthday of Fiona's ex mother in law Angela. Fiona's ex husband Scott is there too, with his new wife Danni and their daughter. There is also a female chef hired to cook for them all. Who can be trusted out of this lot?
Filled with secrets, suspense, tension and murder, this thriller will keep you entertained for hours and leave you feeling shocked at the ending. Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture & Bookouture Audio for gifting me both a digital and audio ARC of the latest thriller by a favorite, Sue Watson, beautifully narrated by both Alison Campbell and Tamsin Kennard, and for including me on the blog tour for this book - 5 stars!
Fiona is invited to a birthday party at a lodge in Cornwall by her mother-in-law. Fiona is still recovering from her divorce from Scott, and his subsequent remarriage to Danni and their new daughter. But Angela intimates that this might be the last birthday they celebrate together, so for her and the sake of their two teenagers, Fiona agrees to go. As everyone gathers, including a chef Angela hired who is actually known to the group in other ways, snow begins to fall. Then the police show up at the door with news that there was a hit and run and someone in their group may be guilty. They are told they have to stay put. Tensions mount between everyone, and then someone goes missing.
I love locked-room, atmospheric mysteries and love Sue Watson's books, so this is an absolute winner for me. There are a lot of characters and everyone is not exactly they seem to be. One of the best parts? The last sentence of the novel is a question to the reader - love that! Grab a cozy blanket, curl up in your favorite chair and don't miss this one!

This is another new author for me and what a great first impression! I loved this!
Angela has invited her son and his wife and baby daughter on a weekend break at the lodge. However, also invited is Scott's ex-wife and children!
If things weren't uncomfortable enough, when the weather takes a turn for the worse and they get trapped there for a week! Could things really get any worse!?
I absolutely loved the whole atmosphere created in this book!
I was literally cringing!
We follow the story from the two wives pov's throughout.
Dani and Fiona do not get on! (as expected) but what we see by following each pov is that they are also both taking everything out of context too.
For instance, we hear Dani's view of the relationship she has built with Scott's other children - but we also see the way this looks to Fiona and it's totally skewed.
I absolutely empathised with Dani. She was so, so stressed.
Being trapped with her mother in law, husband's ex wife, a husband who didn't support her and on top of that, Angela's chef was also known to Dani too - and they wer enjoy friends.
Add to the already tense atmosphere, a hit and run being investigated and then after many niggles and arguments, Dani goes missing!
Although there were only a few characters, there was so much going on.
Exploring each of them, seeing how Dani and Fiona reacted to them and each other and also keeping up with the dynamics of the group as a whole was absolutely brilliant!
I loved every one of them but in different ways (as obviously, I could have throttled a couple of them!)
The plot was a complex one with so many different threads and back stories weaving around each other - but everything flowed perfectly and when it all came together, I was still shocked by the ending - I didn't see it coming at all - but then we also get thrown a massive twist in the epilogue too!
Just brilliant!
I will be keeping a look out for more from this author now as I loved this so much.
Great plot, interesting characters and a writing style that grabbed me in and had me struggling to put this down!
💕Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my ARC copy - this is my honest review 💕
Happy publishing day to this book! Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC on audiobook. I really enjoyed this one. It was very twisty and atmospheric. I really enjoyed the spooky, snowy setting. The characters were well developed and different enough from each other that I didn't find the story line hard to follow. The multiple POV's added a nice element and were woven together well. Sometimes multiple POV's can be confusing but this wasn't the case with this novel.
I am so glad that I found this author and really look forward to reading her other novels.
