Charlotte was once engaged to Zach's brother. Zach's brother is marrying his ex-girlfriend. When Charlotte accidentally shows up at the rehearsal dinner misunderstandings start to snowball when Zach's mother discovers Charlotte and Zach talking.
If you love a good rom com like I do, you'll love Becca Kinzer's latest "Love in Tandem". This book has it all - so much laughter, people getting way out of their comfort zone, misunderstandings galore, opposites attract and so much more! I couldn't get enough of this book and had a book hangover when it was done. The whole book from beginning to end was one I couldn't put down.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Tyndale House publishers for the chance to read an ARC of this wonderful book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Love in Tandem by Becca Kinzer drops us right into the middle of a series of hilarious, snowballing misunderstandings that result in homebody Charlotte Carter faking a relationship with her ex’s adventurous brother, Zach, as they tandem bike 500 miles to raise money for Charlotte’s music program. Through a myriad of challenges (some silly, some less so), Charlotte and Zach learn more about each other, their past and what it means to have faith. I enjoyed Kinzer’s debut novel but I LOVED Love in Tandem! I hadn’t heard of people taking tandem bike trips hundreds of miles before, and it made for such a unique and interesting premise. There is also a small side plot involving Charlotte’s sister Sophia that was very fun. I was completely absorbed by the quick-witted and fast-paced prose and couldn’t put this book down. Love in Tandem is a funny spring read with a sweet love story, and I definitely recommend it! Out April 4 from Tyndale.
*I received an ARC of this book from the author and Netgalley. I was not required to leave a review and all opinions expressed above are my own.
Many thanks to Tyndale Publishing for the digital review copy of this one, which comes out on April 2, 2024.
What I Liked
The book gets off to an interesting start and really pulls you in. We take longer than I expected to get to the bike ride part of the premise, but the leadup is entertaining.
Charlotte is a compelling character with a true passion for her work. Her sister, Sophia, is also well-written and fun to get to know.
We move between three points of view -Charlotte, Zach, and Charlotte's sister, Sophia. I really liked getting these different perspectives, and it was fun to see what Sophia was up to back home while the other two were off on their tandem bike adventure.
The banter between Charlotte and Zach is a lot of fun, especially early on in the story.
What I Didn't Like
About halfway through the book, the pacing felt off. We start to skip and jump through time, which makes sense since riding a bike for many hours isn't all that interesting. However, it felt like we also missed out on developing the relationship between Charlotte and Zach by missing some of their bike banter. I wish this had been balanced better.
The pacing issues seemed to get worse as we got to the end, and I had trouble keeping up with all of the rapid-fire plot points that were coming at us. It felt like the author tried to fit a bit too much into the latter half of the book, and it didn't all fit organically.
Final Thoughts
In all, Love in Tandem had a strong start but didn't quite follow through with some of the pacing issues and just how many different plot points came up close to the end. I think fans of a clean romance, especially one with Christian themes and messaging, would still very much enjoy reading Charlotte and Zach's story.
This was an amazing book! There's humor but also depth. There's movie references. There's adventure. I loved that the character growth seemed very real and wasn't forced. It's so encouraging to see people learn through difficult circumstances. The ending left me a little teary-eyed but in a satisfied/very content way.
Thank you Tyndale and Netgalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
This was a super cute Christian romance novel. I really enjoyed the story and the idea of a long bike trip competition is so fun. It makes me want to try out tandem bike riding with my spouse. There were some great lines and I really enjoyed that it was pretty light and a quick read. Definitely give this book a read!
The book was honestly underwhelming for me. The story was alright. Predictable, but I don’t usually count romance books down for being predictable. I didn’t feel very connected to either of these characters or their connection. I do think there are definitely people out there who will enjoy this book, I’m just not sure I’m part of that audience.
ARC from NetGalley and Tunable House Publishers
I absolutely adore the writing style and voice of Becca Kinzer, author of Love in Tandem. The chaotic, page turning experiences she plops her characters into is always sure to make me laugh.
The love story between Charlotte and Zach was written in such a way to allow the message of faith and trusting in God to take center stage. These characters (and side characters!) are an absolute HOOT! From the glimpses of their inner dialogue, to what actually rolls off their tongue, there isn't a page in this book that won't make you laugh out loud.
This book definitely packs a lot within the covers. There are multiple POV's and side stories, which for me slightly took away from the build of the main characters relationship, but all in all another fabulous read.
Make sure you read all the way through to the Author's Note in the back... that bit quite literally melted my heart!
This was so cute and had lots of wisdom to think about too! It was a little quirky and predictable in parts, but there was a surprise I didn’t expect. I loved the characters and hope the author will write about them again!
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the free copy of this book. Honored to have been chosen to read it before its release!
Love in Tandem was a funny, laugh out loud love story. And I certainly laughed several times. Watching Zach & Charlotte open up to one another & develop their friendship, as well as romances was so sweet. It all wrap up neat & tidy, but sometimes it's good to read stories like that! This was the first I had read by Becca Kinzer but I look forward to reading more by her! Thanks netgalley & Tyndale for a copy. All thoughts are my own.
Becca Kinzer knows how to craft a romcom. There are some hilarious moments in Love in Tandem.
There are also some rather unbelievable aspects of the story. And yet, the note from the author reveals that the story has its origin in her own love story. So I want to tread cautiously here…
I can chalk up the craziness to the romcom—that's often part of the comedy and we can laugh if off. But for a book published as Christian romance, I was disappointed by how quickly the unmarried characters threw off their inhibitions about sleeping in the same tent alone together, no matter what did or didn't happen inside that tent. If they had paid more attention to their youth minister's advice, I might have felt more comfortable recommending the book to my teens. As it is, the book would be a good starting point for discussions on the importance of boundaries.
This is my second Becca Kinzer book and it was an enjoyable light enemies to lovers rom-com. Well, brother of ex-boyfriend to lover with some fake dating thrown in for good measure. Zach is the brother of Charlotte's ex-fiance, who left her at the altar and is now married to one of her friends. She is trying to save her job as a music teacher and he decides to help her for a cut of the contest prize money. They are from two different worlds, so how could they possibly end up together? It was a really fun book to read, and it was cool to see Charlotte grow as a person through the adventure, too.
I hate when books make me want to get off my couch and exercise! (Of course I can use that as an excuse to listen to an audiobook!) But that's exactly what this book has done to me.
This is such a cute and heartwarming tale of Charlotte and Zach! I laughed as I followed along on their journey.
It was more than just a romance. There are threads of family and healing and humor throughout the book. I just loved it!
The best part comes in the author's note! I won't tell you what that is, but if you listen to this book and don't get the author's note read to you, make sure to go find it!
There are some mentions of faith but they aren't delivered in a preachy way. I didn't feel like they were meant to influence the reader's beliefs, if the reader felt differently than the characters.
Thanks to Tyndale House Publishers and Netgalley for the chance to read an early copy of this book. I'm voluntarily leaving honest review.
I went into this not realizing is was a Christian contemporary romance. Although I am a Christian, I don't typically navigate towards Christian fiction. However, Love in Tandem has changed that for me now.
I really enjoyed so many aspects of this book. It was funny, sweet, and filled with some of my favorite tropes.
🚲 Clean romance
🚲 Fake dating
🚲 Opposites attract
🚲 Small town
🚲 Sprinkles of faith
I vote for a second book following Joshua and Sophia!
In Love in Tandem, I enjoyed reading about Charlotte’s quest to save her music program by entering a contest offered by a local wealthy recluse. She is also thrown into the path of her almost brother in law when he comes to town for his brother’s wedding. The parts of the story that I really enjoyed was the interaction between Charlotte and Zach when they set out on their bike ride down the Natchez Trace. It seemed if it could go wrong, it did… and I enjoyed reading how they handled it with humor and kept their eye on the prize. There were some elements of the story though that seemed a bit forced or didn’t quite fit. How quickly Sophia fell in love, their mom’s “health scare”, and the fact that the end was wrapped up so neatly with everything working out. Overall, I enjoyed the book, but some of the forced plot points would keep me from purchasing it or recommending it to others.
WOW! A masterpiece in assumptions, interrupted conversations, challenges & dares, tangled webs, saving face.... I loved it! Zany characters, plot twists, and happily ever after. Although not labeled a Christian fiction, it could easily fall in that category with its faith theme. A copy was provided for my review, but all opinions are my own.
As a bike lover myself, I may have grown a bit envious while reading about long bike trip (though I’ve never tried a tandem bike).
This is the second book I’ve read by Becca Kinzer. Her Dear Henry, Love Edith was an instant favorite!!
Love in Tandem was really good too but I must confess that I was only interested in one story stream and so I skimmed a bit with the side stories. I probably would enjoy it more as either a physical copy or an audiobook. Ebooks are just so cumbersome on my phone.
This had so much sweetness (and laugh out loud moments!) but it also felt grounded. The characters dealt with real and at times raw emotions. I loved that one of the characters chose to go to counseling to work out things vs. pretending everything was fine.
Huge Thank You to NetGalley for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC!
I read this author's debut novel last month and when I saw this one I jumped at the chance to read it! The author has such an engaging storytelling. The reader wants to be along for the ride and be a part of the characters lives, except if it means riding a tandem bike ;). Zach and Charlotte were such great characters and so much fun to read about.
Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet closed-door romance by Becca Kinzer. Becca does such a wonderful job of writing side-characters and sub-plots that feel just as exciting and real as the main characters and story. I was genuinely laughing out loud at multiple points in the book and did not want to put it down. It was definitely a “just one more chapter” kind of a book.
In this story, we follow Charlotte, a music teacher with no money for a school music program, and Zach, an adventurous thrill-seeker who never stays in one place for very long. Through a series of somewhat strange circumstances, Charlotte and Zach end up attempting to ride a tandem bicycle across 500 miles in just 10 days. Which is just the kind of thing Zach would do, but Charlotte is NOT an outdoorsy kind of person. But, Charlotte is determined though to do whatever it takes to fund this music program and help her family in the process. I had such a fun time cheering on Charlotte and Zach and would thoroughly recommend this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Tyndale House Publishing for the ARC of this book. I enjoyed reading it for the most part. It was a clean/closed door romance with some hints of faith sprinkled in. It was predictable and sweet which was exactly what I expected but I didn't feel like any of the characters had a lot of depth. The two main characters fall in love, but I didn't really feel like I understood why. I was rooting for them but they seemed too different to really make it work. That being said, I would say that a lot of people would love this one. 3 stars for me.
100/10 stars!!! I LITERALLY laughed out loud while reading this book more than once (note—this is NOT a common experience for me!). This book hit the perfect sweet spot: wanting to stay up late and devour the pages AND wanting to stop after every chapter to make it last longer. I cannot recommend this book enough. For every funny moment, there was an equally touching one. And don’t even get me started on the beautiful author’s note at the end… Becca Kinzer is now an auto-buy author for me and I’m already looking forward to her next book.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions in this review are happily my own!
