I was incredibly confused by this book. It's been published before under a different name, with a slightly different authors name, and then published again here? Very confusing. The thought behind it was cool. I liked the idea of grown up Peter Pan, and the idea that he's able to still be with Wendy. I always loved them! But beyond that, it's not a very compelling story. Definitely won't be reading the other ones in this series.

I realized after receiving this book that I had read it before when it was originally published under a different name. It's been retooled quite a bit and I didn't enjoy this version.

This book was ok… it was dark which I loved but I didn’t really connect with the story. When I learned it was adapted from another book with the same premise I was a little disappointed. The concept was cool but the actual book wasn’t in my opinion.

This book was amazing. I have always been on the look out for a Peter Pan retelling and I was so happy to find this book. The world was so beautifully done I could not stop reading. I would recommend this book to everyone!

I'm reeling. I thought I knew what I was getting into. I probably should have waited to read this until I was more emotionally prepared. Maybe it's because I'm mid-Iron-Flame, maybe it's because of reality, but this book had me depressed for three days straight. I had a heavy cloud hanging over my head and a weight on my chest that I couldn't get rid of. But you know what? Peter was right. Like Wendy, I should have asked him for air. Because when he finally breathed life back into me, I devoured the rest of this book. It was evocative and moving. On a technical note, I was pleasantly surprised by the parallels between this and the original story. I will be recommending this to all my dark romance lovers, and I absolutely cannot wait for the next book. Gosh. This is going to stick with me for a while. 4.5 stars rounded up

********PLEASE READ********
I have read both versions of this book and loved them. As I read through these awful one and two star, even some of the three star, reviews...I am blown away at some of what is being said. This author has it posted plain as day that this is a second edition to what she wrote under a different name and re-worked it. Here are the following warnings for anyone who is contemplating this book and by not liking it would result in an unfair review for the author.....

SMUT----there is none, look elsewhere if that is all your mind is after. It is by no means fade to black or closed door, there is spice but it isn't what the book is built on.

PLOT---it is plot heavy because there is a lot of story to be told. Again, if you aren't looking for something plot heavy don't pick up this book!

CONCEPT---this is the same author of the original and it was not adapted from another book. This book was re-worked, end of story.

YA---this book was NEVER geared towards YA nor was it ever promoted to be as such. This is by no means a YA book. I have no idea where people even got that idea!

If you are considering this book go and look at the 4 and 5 star ratings of those that have read both editions. I know reviews are based on personal opinion but please take into account those as much as you would a negative review.

"I want to make you feel faint, Wendy. I want to make your world go black and be the only one that breathes you back to life. Gives you air."

I DO NOT even know where to begin with the absolute perfection this second edition of Losing Neverland is. I am not a person that reads many retellings but knew I would be reading Ms. Montgomery's new version since I loved the first edition so much and after doing so....I still never want to watch a single Peter Pan movie or the cartoon because I want her story to be Peter and Wendy's real story!!!

This retelling is nothing like all the others I repeatedly heard about. There is a uniqueness to the plot, a twist that the reader finds out in the very beginning. So once you know the big secret you in turn get the beautiful tale of how it came to be and where things went so wrong between these two seventeen years ago. Expected the unexpected when it comes to the connection between Peter and Wendy.

You are taken to Neverland in both the past and present. By the author taking us back to the beginning with them the reader is able to feel so much more connected to present day Peter and Wendy after that prologue. They are each other's first loves....each other's only loves, it is a love that goes deeper than either of them even realizes. It is a slow burn but the author does give the reader plenty of build up and tender moments. There are so many beautiful moments between them and honestly I was so consumed by them the slow burn was a mute point to me.

Along with Peter and Wendy there are familiar characters that play a part in their story....Tinker Bell, Tiger Lily, John, and numerous Lost Boys. Ms. Montgomery gives her readers a few more plot twists thrown in the mix to have you guessing and/or questioning. Her writing flows poetically across every page. If you are looking for a story that is going to make you feel every aspect of it sprinkled with a couple surprises then this is definitely for you.

Overall a good read. The beginning was a struggle for me as it was so slow. This was the first Peter Pan retelling that I have read which overall I enjoyed and plan to read more in the future. I want to thank the author for allowing me the chance to read this and hope to read the second book in the future! I also didn’t read the first version of the story however I may in the future to see the differences. I tend to prefer darker and spicer reads

It was good, solid story. There were times I was confused and don't think the information was set up clearly. At times I had to stop and re-read things. The timelines overall were my most challenging part to get through. Part 1 was a bit boring and repetitive - I think the book could be shortened. Yet, I still enjoyed the overall story. Part 2 of the book I think saved the overall rating.

Now - I wish I read the first book to compare- but apparently this was re-written to remove triggers and sexual content to be more of a YA book. However, there are still triggering events- right in the beginning. And a lot of toxic relationship themes, that I personally don't think fit into a YA genre. It was still giving dark romance.

There was good character building, the world building was my favorite - as a big Neverland/Peter Pan fan I was very happy with this.

Had many quotable moments as well, which is bonus points for me !

This was very much....not for me. I was expecting the writing to be much better but it was immediately a really huge struggle. It was massively corny and heavily focued on obsessive internal monologues. I LOVED the idea but execution was not great

This is the perfect book for anyone who enjoys retelling of famous tales. This is another take of the story of Peter Pan and Captain Hook, but with a twist - what would you do if they were the same person? I liked this twist in the plot, it was interesting and brought something different. The romance was good, too.

The story was a bit confusing at times, which can be a bit frustrating. It made me go back or rethink what I've just rea at times. Still, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to have another go at the myth of Neverland.

I have to admit I was nervous going into this book because it is a rewrite of a book that I enjoyed. Now I say this will all the love in my heart - the changes made me love the book/story more! Good job to the author for having faith, trust and a whole lotta pixie dust and going with what she felt was right for her characters. I highly recommend this rewritten retelling of Peter Pan!

I have read both edition and I have to say edition Two is much better. It explain the story so much better and the ending bring it over to book 2.
It is dark and a Peter pan retelling. It full of spice and make you question the story you once knew. Can't wait for book 2.

Omg this book!!! It took me a min to read due to personal reasons but I seriously could not put it down unless I had too! So many twists and turns and that ending! Didn’t see that one coming at all. I’ve read dark Peter Pan retellings (have to read the first edition to losing neverland) and this by far is up there super close to my most fav retelling. The plot the twists and turns had me on edge not knowing what would happen. I felt I knew 1 thing and I was right but I feel it was wrote that way on purpose and I loved it. Can not wait for book 2!

Losing Neverland Second Edition
Brittany Montgomery

"Love doesn't mean you won't sometimes break the one who stole your heart, Darling...” ❤️

I can never pass up a Peter Pan/ Hook retelling, especially when it's a dark romance! Plus, I'm a sucker for the pet name
"Darling” ❤️

This is the second edition of Losing Neverland by Brittany Montgomery which includes 15+ New chapters AND a new extended ending!
Plus, just look at that cover. I read the first edition a while back when the author was under another pen name and loved it, so I was absolutely THRILLED to be on the ARC team for the second edition.

Do you enjoy retellings? MMC with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personally traits? Paranormal? Fantasy? Plot twists, and a a darker side of the beloved lost boy Peter Pan(?)....or is he Hook. wait a minute...is he both?!

If any of that grabs your interests then this is a perfect book for you! I promise you this one definitely will not disappoint! I simply couldn't put it down, and now I can't stop thinking about it. This is definitely going on my list of re-reads!

“I kiss and whisper, “Stay with me, Wendy.”

I wrote SIX pages of notes for this book. Six! I want to share some of the words that played on repeat for me throughout reading my ARC of Losing Neverland.

Heartbreakingly poignant. Enthralled. Incredibly interesting take. Gutting. Magical. This entire chapter ripped my heart out root and stem. I am done for.

Those were just in part one of Losing Neverland. What Brittany Montgomery has done with Losing Neverland is take a story that I didn’t enjoy much growing up and spin it into a beautiful web of love, loss, courage, and struggle. I read a lot and it takes a lot for me to get blown away by a book but that is exactly what this book did. It blew me away. I am looking forward to what comes next in this terrifically twisted tale of Peter and Wendy!

the start of this book was very slow for me, and i really found it hard to get into, especially with the confusing timelines. once the story picked up, i did enjoy it, although i’m not sure i fully understand the whole pan / hook storyline (or maybe it just wasn’t what i was expecting?). the ending of this book was clearly setting up for book 2, which i would like to get round to reading.

thank you to netgalley and anne marie fuller books for an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.

Loved the betrayal. jealousy, and dark romance. The romance aspects and characters were great. However, lacking in world-building, setting and plotline.

All is not as it seems in Neverland.
As for Peter & Hook,
well I know the secret most don’t.
The real truth behind the myth.
The hidden wonder you’ve never known
disguised as the notorious legend.

This was fine, I guess? It's not really my kind of thing, but I didn't hate it.

Read as an arc on netgalley. The writing style was nice but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Found it difficult to get into and I felt it went round and round in circles for most of the book.
