At first it was hard to get into it.. but as I kept in reading the book just was having trouble keeping my attention... Sry .
If you like enemies to lovers books this is for you. It starts out a bit slow but stick with it you won’t be disappointed. Leo is sent to kill a girl, little does he know it’s the girl he has loved since childhood. Can they survive the secrets they find?
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you for allowing me to read
"Amico: The De Luca Family's Secret Heir" by Evelyn Montgomery delves into the world of the mafia, romance, and secrets. Leo, known for his fierceness and ruthlessness, finds himself drawn to Mia, the woman he was hired to kill. What starts as a seduction for his pleasure quickly turns into something deeper as he realizes he cannot resist her. As their pasts become intertwined and secrets are revealed, they find themselves navigating a dangerous game of trust and betrayal. Unfortunately, for me, it falls short of its potential, instead offering a formulaic and predictable storyline that fails to leave a lasting impression. While the premise of a ruthless mafia member falling for the woman he was hired to kill initially intrigues, the execution lacks depth and authenticity. The characters feel one-dimensional, and while the beginning smut scenes were hot, the “insta-love” trope was not believable for me.. Overall, "Amico" delivers on its promises of steamy encounters and suspenseful twists, but didn’t offer anything new or memorable in the crowded landscape of mafia romances.
By all means, the situations in the pages of this book were almost whimsical in nature and out of the ordinary but did not subtract from my enjoyment.
This book read like peeling an onion — secrets revealed over time as you delve deeper into the novel and get to know the characters involved. Between all the years of lie and deceit, and how Mia and Leo are tied together, the pull is inevitable. The spice does not let you down throughout the novel.
The midway point allowed the plot to really pick up and yet again, sucked me in. This was overall an easy and quick read for me. This hit the mark in terms of mafia romance, even with some of the less realistic, out of this world antics that were within the pages of this book.
Thank you to Evelyn Montgomery and Netgalley for the earc!
It was meant to be just One Night, but once you have a taste heaven.. it’s impossible to come back down to earth..
Going into this book, I honestly didn’t know really what to expect. Well, I knew that it would be spicy and was a mafia sort of romance.
And this book was a trip. I was really hoping that I would like it because I usually don’t mind dark and spicy books. But this book had really stale characterizations of all its characters and the storyline was really generic. I honestly didn’t understand the relationship between the two main love interests. It was a pretty messed up manipulative relationship. The main girl Mia was a pretty flat and an unimaginative character. And her love interest was for sure a character that reminded me lot of ‘365 days’ sort of character but just not as alluring. You could tell that he was pretty much taking advantage of her vulnerability and messed up childhood. And a lot of the unnecessary sex scenes and super dark background story made me skip a lot of the book. I was honestly close to DNFing this book but forced myself to finish it. I honestly wouldn’t recommend this book.
Overall it was unnecessarily dark, brutal and so not sexy. I won’t be continuing this series. 1 star.
Thanks to the folks at NetGalley for a copy of this book. My review is a honest reflection of my feelings towards this book.
This book was not my cup of tea. It was scattered and confusing with many plot twists and unnecessarily graphic.
I wanted to like this duet so badly. I loved the snippet, I liked the characters, the spice was there and spicing.
But the writing. I don't understand how this duet has an over 4 star average. It could be because I read the ARC (Thank you NetGalley!) so it wasn't fully edited, but it read like a very long run on sentence. There didn't seem to be a lot of forethought in any of the dialogue, the story was hard to follow, and like the first one we seemed to solve all our issues with sex.
Mia/Maria and Leo have so much potential and I did enjoy what I could grasp. It's a great started, but it felt unfinished.
It was a very fast paced duet with plenty of spice
I thought the tension between the characters was very tight. Like they wanted to rip each other apart and climb each other like trees
There were so many cute moments that made me gush forever over them. I'm such a sucker for cute lines and these books definitely had me kicking my feet and giggling.
I recommend these books if you want a duet to just fly through within a couple of days.
I had to DNF 2 chapters in, this book wasn’t for me.
… she said this man was so pretty he HAD to be gay. He told her he was attracted to her and she was like “but aren’t you gay” … because we all know looks determine sexuality.
Intense mafia tale - violence, torture, murder, betrayal, kidnapping, yep, not for the timid. Layers of secrets that are continually revealed to tell the truth that is covered by years of lies and deceit. Underlying it all, a star crossed romance that takes it's time to unfold. Definitely an adult tale ;)
This book was too fantastical for me - even for a spicy romance. The relationships, drama, and situations seemed even more outrageous than a Lifetime movie. The writing was not bad, it was the situations and handling of the conflicts that made this book unenjoyable for me.
Mafia- dual pov- dark- kinky
The story is about Leo and Mia
I found the beginning a bit slow and couldn’t figure where the story was going.
Sometimes it was a bit long.
Their attraction is insta love and lust and I found the pages of descriptions a bit long sometimes.
I don’t want to give away too much but the book keeps you guessing and wondering everything and everyone.
So much happens it’s hard sometimes to unfold but so addicting.
The middle and the end of the book are so fast paced and spicy,
Get ready for some emotional damage ! I love it !
There is not always translations that follows Italian quotes and it’s a shame because I had to use google 😂
I was kindly gifted a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

Thank you to Evelyn Montgomery and NetGalley for giving me a copy of this book.
In my world, I’m known as fierce, dominant & ruthless.
My only weakness?
The woman I was hired to kill.
I seduce Mia only for pleasure.
I tell myself I want her only for one night.
But once you experience heaven, how can you ever come back down to earth?
She’s woken the damn beast in me &
I secretly promise to put her through a beautiful hell
before she climbs her way to the fucking stars.
Although I soon learn our pasts are more intertwined than I ever expected,
full of secrets we’re just starting to unravel.
If that doesn't kill me first, what will in the end is the hidden secret that
I need to be the only one she’s ever submitted to.
Just like Mia’s the only one I’ve ever let myself worship.
He's supposed to kill her, but he thinks she's really hot. They know each other, but she doesn't remember that. I enjoy reading this book. This is the first book of a duet.
This engaging narrative is packed with surprising turns and a passionate love story between the captivating characters Leo and Mia. The storyline kept me on edge, and their profound connection added richness to the tale. Evelyn Montgomery showcases her versatility by effortlessly transitioning between genres. Although the first half unfolds at a measured pace, the narrative gains momentum past the midway point, revealing captivating secrets and unexpected twists. The novel adeptly delves into the shadowy realms of the mafia, love, and loyalty, leaving me anticipating the next chapter in the series.
This was an absolutely wild ride. I didn't know where I got on and where I got off of this ride. I enjoyed the darker elements of this book and the spice was well done!
There were parts of the plot that really confused me but I think just enjoying the book for what it was is the way to go with this book! No thoughts, head empty and really just read it for the spice and chemistry between the two characters.
Thank you NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Amico: De Luca Family Secret's Heir by Evelyn Montgomery is such a wonderful read. This book are totally my cup of tea.
This book have a high sexual tension, enemy to lover, mafia action packed, thriller, suspense, suprising plot twist, family secret, angst, betrayal, heart breaking moments and tears. There's too many secret to be unfold. This book keep reader at the edge of their seat.
I'll definitely be waiting for more books from Evelyn Montgomery and I'm looking forward to read the next story.
Really enjoyed this novel. Found it to be quite entertaining. I would recommend it to people. It was interesting to read and people should try the book for themselves.
From the killer, the main character becomes a victim - a victim of passion. woman's ego
Let's remember that God created a woman from a man's rib. But in every heaven and apparently in hell there is an APPLE AND SINFUL LIPS.
Erotic handwriting awakens the imagination. Written in a skillful hand.
I really enjoyed this story and thought that it had a really good storyline.
The plot was well developed and it was well written with a really good flow to the story which kept me hooked to the story. I thought that the characters were well developed and worked well together.
The book was a mafia style story with blood and guts, sex and romance all swirled together – I wasn’t sure if it would work together but it did and it was a must read for me
I read this book with the second Amante and the storyline ran across both books so they are definitely ones that need to be read together.
It was a must read, kept me captivated from start to finish.
It is 5 stars from me for this one – very highly recommended!
