Black woman and magic. You won me over with the first one and definitely with this one. The magic, the suspense, the surprises, and the romance were chefs kiss. I did NOT want this adventure to end. I want to re read it for the first time again. This one took a little to pickup but worth the read.

Ich weiß ehrlich gesagt nicht, wie ich dieses Buch bewerten soll, da ich es aufgrund relativ kurzer Ausleihdauer (ohne Verlängerung) nicht lesen konnte.

After the solid start of a series with ‘A Vanishing Witch’ this sequel started off with a bang. Catching up with Kit and company in this captivating sequel was for sure a breath of fresh air. You can tell that Locke found her stride with the upping the drama, action and the humor in this installment. All the supporting character became more grounded and well rounded. And Remi! Don’t get me started on Remi. He’s one of my all time favorite characters and I missed him. Seeing him back had me all giddy and wanting them to bring him back sooner. I am a total stan for him and Kit( sorry not sorry recently unvanished Marrik)
The vibe of this book revolved on the repercussions of prior events of book one.The anti witch movement is still causing problems, magic is back stronger and Remi’s sacrifice hanging around in the air.
Overall this book was for sure a level up and makes me excited to see what the future holds for Kitaine and company.
I would recommend this series for sure.

So The Vanish Tide started out a bit of a slower read for me compared to The Vanish Witch so it took me longer to get into it. And while the romance was there it was more about the fantasy aspects which is why it took me a little longer to gel with the story. There was a lot of reflection from Kit who is feeling guilty over Remi and the events of the previous book. At the same time, not only does she have to dodge the attempts from Gladstone to retaliate for her little vanishing incident but she also has to worry about a hate group out to hunt down witches. And then there's the cryptic message Onyx gave her and the newfound powers she doesn't quite understand. Things were really amped up by the end and there's a lot to explore in the next installment.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I'm going to be totally honest here... I should not be as excited as I am that Kit and Marrik broke up. I'm sorry but I'm just 1000% team Remi. That man is head over heels for our girl and I just need him to be revived or something magical so he can be with her.

Gosh it was just so GOOD. I was really hanging by a thread at the end of the first book, barely hanging on, after the assumed death of my FAVORITE CHARACTER, so I'm feeling just as de-withered as Remi now that that's been resolved, thank you very much. The pacing was excellent, the writing was still just as captivating, and the stakes had me completely hooked. I will say that I felt the pressure of the situation more consistently in book one, whereas I didn't feel how dire things were really in this one until probably about halfway through. Even still, it was really well done and even the less intense parts were very clearly necessary. Easy 4 stars for me, and I'll be impatiently awaiting the next book in my usual spot on the edge of my seat.

I really liked this book better than the first! The character relationships were expanded and I thought they had more depth. I truly felt the heartbreak that Kit felt at multiple points in this book.

The writing is more on the YA side of things, even though I would to consider this adult fantasy. It’s a super quick and easy read, and the world building is easy to follow. I did feel a little disconnect with modern slang and references used while in a non-Earth setting. However, I don’t think it took away from the story at all.

I was so sad for Remi’s ending last book, I’m so glad to see him come back and lowkey I hope he is the new love interest in book 3! That being said, I was sad to see Kit and Mar end the way they did, and I thought the blame put on him was unwarranted. Grief will do that. I’m excited to see where they end up next book

Also, that cliff hanger was pretty insane. I was not expecting that at all (I did read this in one sitting, so almost no mi-reading reflection was done on my part). I enjoyed how Kit grew into her powers and her overall character development

More surprises, more magic and more suspense

I loved the continuation of this spellbinding urban fantasy tale with a side of romantic suspense. It was just as engaging as the first book. All the emotions, all the suspense and all the plot twists made it almost impossible to put down. The story picks up shortly after Vanish Witch concluded. Kit and Marrick have returned from Elsewhere and brought back with them some magic to fill the depleted ley lines. Kitaine is a vanish witch who has more power than most witches of her kind and after her stay in the dangerous Elsewhere, she also has more training. Marrick is Kit’s human boyfriend who grew up with witch hating family and who, in the last book, she accidentally vanished to Elsewhere. Despite the good the magic can do for the world, Kit knows there will be a reckoning for the reemergence of the ley lines and for the attempted vanishing. She knows High Coven Witch Linton Gladstone will be coming after her for the attempted vanishing and that is just the beginning of the danger Kit and Marrick are facing. Kit and her story is thrust into the public eye to keep her safe and she may be the only one to help with a potentially deadly unintended consequence of the reemergence of the ley lines. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters, and an engaging storyline. The story includes fighting, dangerous situations, evil actors, henchmen, loyal friends and family, painful pasts, mystical coincidences, snark, mystery, secrets, betrayal, revelations, plot twists, steam, and laughs. I especially loved that Kitaine’s character, despite her unique powers and how she is viewed, is still kind, optimistic, self-deprecating, modest, reluctant, and at times resentful which makes her a very likeable and relatable hero. While the main storyline of the book is resolved, the book left us on a bit of a cliffhanger with more unanswered questions. 4.5 stars.

I loveddddd Book 1, The Vanish Witch, so I have been very impatiently waiting for Vanish Tide. So happy to get to see the aftermath of Kit and Merrick arriving back home from Elsewhere. I was heartbroken when a certain character met an untimely end in Book 1, so I had been dying to see if they would reappear. The story flowed well and I enjoyed getting to experience the side characters like Jianno and their parents a little more. Love AJ's books!
